Had a horrible experience. Please beware that BECU will charge you a late fee without telling you that there is a balance due. And then only notification more than a month later that you are now overdue with the late fee
What a scam to make money off it's loyal members

Here is the history...

Got a notification from BECU on Oct 26 bring charged a bank fee flow $24.75 which was a surprised and not expected. I dug into it and discovered the following
1) My line of credit incurred a balance of $3k on Sept 3rd. Which i was notified
2) I paid off the full balance on Sept 4th. With Line of Credit showing a balance of zero since then
3) BECU apparently charged an interest of $0.75 from the 1 day of overdraft
4) However, the Line of Credit does NOT show the $0.75 for its balance; but still show $0 balance
5) I have received NO notification of this interest charge
6) Then BECU charged me a late fee of $24.75 and notification alert was shown on Oct 26, more than 1.5 months after thr original overdraft on Sept 3rd!!!

When I contacted BECU, the Rep said the fee is due me not paying the $0.75 even though they did not notification until it was overdue AND I had no way of knowing I owe the $0.75.
I then had to request a waiver for the late fee, which they finally did. But it took a lot of effort on my part, especially when the Rep did not accept the problem with the BECU process
I politely then asked the Rep to please ask their IT folks to fix this bug in their software so it will show the correct balance, any interest owed, and notification of balance Due. The Rep just offered to transfer me to their IT Department.

I have been a BECU member since 1983 but I will switch to another bank in 2025....

Awful Credit Union! Do not bank with them! Slow slow slow! The budgets and account features are useless. The app is not intuitive at all. Avoid becu! Take your money elsewhere!

One star because zero, for some reason, is not an option. I had a fraudulent charge on my credit card that I no longer used but foolishly kept open because BECU recommended I do so when I tried to close my account. Chase bank alerted me to the charge. Upon logging into my defunct BECU account, I confirmed the fraudulent charge. $20 on Amazon in a state I don't live in. Immediately, I wondered why Chase bank alerted me when BECU didn't say anything whatsoever. This was the third fraud incident at BECU within 5 years. I called customer service to report the fraud. In a firm and disappointed tone, I told the very young sounding (I'm 30) agent that I was disappointed that BECU didn't alert me when chase did alert me, even though it wasn't their card or their issue. The agent immediately became emotionally heightened, went on the defensive and asked how chase even had my BECU info (lol? Just me linking my accounts..), and told me "we can't just shut down our clients' cards. We want them to be able to use them" in a condescending tone, as if I don't understand how financial institutions keep the lights on. I told the agent I didn't expect BECU to shut the card down immediately, but I did expect them to alert me to a charge on my card in a state I don't live in after a 2+ year period of inactivity. As Chase Bank did. And for what it's worth, when I closed my BECU account, I didn't get one bit of correspondence from BECU to confirm the closure. Don't forget what the B stands for in BECU. Look at the flailing, pathetic performance of that once decent company. Get out of BECU while you still can!

Give them no star at all. If there’s lesser word than the worst that’s them! No communication , they’re never straightforward in all transactions . I didn’t get only stress but had suffered of mild stroke because of their banking system .
I have to request 100 times for and email 20 times but no response . Theyre only quick to respond after I send payment receipt to them to reactivate my bank account which I paid $1705 and they charge me again $500 to reactivate my card after my bank has been frozen because I haven’t used for 5 years . Now I’m waiting for them to reactivate my account but I requested 20 times and more to cancel my card because I refuse to pay $500 telling them that the Savings account can work independently without a card .
Customer service so poor and I have to keep repeating my request everytime and they’ll ask the same question all the time . Knowing that they use my savings for lending and other people benefited a lot from my savings but not me . When I need my money they hold it . And seem it’s very difficult for them to reactivate even I paid according to their instructions x I’m travelling and on vacation but can never rest everyday because of this bank problems . I really thought that credit union was trusted bank . But the figures aren’t right and it’s not clear how much money was taken because the figures was really wrong !!
Now I’m
Broke on my vacation and can’t access this bank at all ! I used all my money to pay them to reactivate and they guaranteed 100% that I can access after those payments but it’s 48 hours now they never respond ; knowing that they just work at home .
I hope I can give them 0 or lesser than 0!!

The app just sucks, no wire transfer option, the transaction page is delayed, and the card freeze doesnt work half the time

Again tried to get into my account to pay bills. Cookies blocked. BECU told me to remove them. I Didn't put them in the first placed. Your BECU ee did. This has happened before and I am getting tired of it. Called their 800 number the ee told me she couldn't do anything.

Cant pay auto loan have to use a BECU members savings account with them to pay it. Cant pay with external accounts. I'm gonna pay my loan off somehow just to get away from this nightmare of a loan/bank please don't get a loan with them

the alerts...either text or email NEVER work. I've tried multiple times. Stopped using BECU but came back after another local bank WECU proved even worst in their multi-layered logon kept locking me out and even tech support (via chat) could not logon or fix my account.

So... I'm going back to using a regular BANK!!! I'll bet their web site will actually WORK!!!

The BECU app, especially for making a deposit is. a. joke.
After endorsing in black ink, on a white background of a state issued check, the app consistently says it looks like the check hasn't been endorsed.
On the front it cannot discern between an 8 and a six, so the amount doesnt match, so bottom line, can't deposit the check. And it happens every. time. Please fix the app. Or add more ATMs .

I forget my password for my login call them multiple times for customer service on hold for at least 15 minutes each time they asked me for my security questions answer them all correctly somehow they say it's not right they had to put a typo and now are trying to say the only way I can fix it is going to a BECU location which are nowhere near me and I'm 16

horrific customer service. the same 6 answers qued up on the computer screen. my acct has been hacked 10+ times. i have never had credit and joined because told me they would assist me with establishing credit. by doing what they instructed me, i have bad credit before even being able to establish credit. life was difficult before, but now its at the point of homlessness.
i would strongly suggest staying away from this institution of thievery.

After accepting checks written to my nickname rather than my legal name for six YEARS, BECU abruptly returned two large deposits that put me in a serious financial position. I called and verified the two deposits were mine, identical to all the other monthly deposits they had accepted for YEARS. The REFUSED to honor those deposits. I was out of the country and it took so much effort to get those checks covered so I didn't bounce checks. I'm opening an account with a real bank. No more BS from this rinky dinky mess of a credit union. They don't give a rats ass about customers.

I was a Boeing kid I had a a bank account since I was a little girl I revisited my bank account and opened it up so I can have access again they tried to say that there was frog going on I was never informed so I told my identity deaf people and they took care of it for me I was able to open up my bank account again the reward for open up the account was you make five deposits and you get $100 for each referral I referred six people mind you that's $600 okay now I got a note or a letter in the mail from the financial department saying that they owe me this money this is something I'm not in control of as far as checking the check I went in and took the check and they cashed it with no problem then when I got done spending the money then they're going to come back saying you always this money because this was not real how's it not real when it went through your identity service I don't get it they should be on you money not me and if I owe money because the fact the check was fake then why are you guys telling me I only owe $300 of it that doesn't make sense take it out the 600 you owe me but they can't do none of that I was talking to the supervisor about it every time I try to open my bank account again it won't let me because the same situation why no one can tell me I've been a client since I was a kid the people that gave me the check were their client since they were a kid so who should be honored here how is it my fault that you guys don't know what you're doing and your identity people didn't do it right I don't have nothing to do with me that's not my problem my problem is why do I still owe $300 only if the whole check was fake can anybody answer me that because I need my bank account back. Nobody can ever tell me why I'm being penalized and being treated with discrimination it's because I'm Brown I'm not a black panther they were out we're there out I'm not trying to force anything I'm just want what's mine it's my money and I need it now right or wrong and I don't need nobody to respond telling me how great their service was to them I need answers for my situation tired of being distracted I need my $300 you take your $300 out that you say I owe supposedly and can't give me a reason why when I'm supposed to hold the whole check supposedly cuz it was fake again right why do I have to be treated with discrimination now my business is held back cuz I don't have a business account I can't move on my air being business m i LLC stuff I signed up for all the stuff and now I'm still having to figure this Bank crap out because of BECU that's how you got to shoot your clients wow can't wait to hear what they have to say about this oh now they want to talk about it now you guys want to help me right well the only thing that's going to help is me getting my money make it makes sense then I can understand what's going on instead of you guys just disregarding everything that I feel that I'm going through I can't believe I still want a bank account there I don't trust people I don't trust nothing but since I've had this bank account since I was a little girl I feel I should be entitled to be understood and to be helped I was disregarded and I can't open my bank account again for $300 really no explanation for nothing I can't wait to hear what they have to say

BECU cashed fraudulent checks and then refused to make good on them. It cost my husband's business more than $30,000. I say don't trust them!

Banking deposits via mobile dont work. You recieve an error message. I have been trying for 2 months.
Used to work great.
What is happening and why dont they fix it?
I now have trust issues.

I have had nothing but great experiences with BECU! I can’t believe all of these 1 and 2 star ratings! They’re always on it when something goes wrong. I can’t keep track of how many times I’ve needed to talk to someone about some discrepancies I’ve had with them or myself, and they would be able to resolve each and every one. I guess it depends on what branch you deal with! The ones in the PNW have all been great to work with. Thank you BECU. I can truly say that after 10 years+ of banking with you I haven’t had one bad thing to say about you guys! All positive!

BECU Online Deposits is currently not available. Please try again later.
THIS message has been coming up for nearly 6 months time. I am assuming they are NOT planning to FIX.
I have called a couple times, even have written to them - (with NEVER any response back)
I have been forced to use Postal Mail with a 63 cent STAMP for my DEPOSITS - as I DO NOT live near any BECU Bank or partner banks that will accept BECU Deposits.
This BANK obviously just DOES NOT CARE !

I had a recent bad experience (been with BECU since the mid-90's). I was ready to pull my accounts and move to another credit union. But I thought about if for a few days and then decided to reach out so that they knew about it and they responded above and beyond to fix the situation. I was really impressed afterwards. If you happen to have a negative experience please reach out to them - feedback helps business improve and sometimes they honestly do not know if employees may not following best practices in dealing with customers.

I've been happy with their personal accounts, but their business banking is abysmal. Absolutely garbage experience. Basic features such as being able to set up auto pays, or initiate any kind of payments (such as a credit card payment) from the external source (credit card issuer, or any outside organization) and BECU will reject the payment. So many late fees on credit cards, vehicle payments, etc learning the hard way that BECU is still operating its small business accounts as if it's 1985. Their bill pay set up is klunky and outdated. Truly remarkable how bad they are. The worse part is that nobody in the branches or on the customer service lines even realize that this is an issue. They have not been trained to help customers with this at all. I have had many experiences having to train their customer service folks, in the branch and on the phone, how their systems work. I am now having to switch banks because of how bad they are. I really wanted to like BECU as I think their hearts are in the right place, yet their bank accounts have to have basic functionality to win my trust. And they just don't. Not on the business side. On the personal side, no problems.

This bank truly sucks! The mobile banking has devolved to not work any longer. Calls take 30 mins to answer. Cards are not managed. The list just goes on and on.
