I would not recommend Hughes Federal…
I would not recommend Hughes Federal Credit Union based on my experience with an auto loan that was transferred to them from another financial institution.
I paid off my Toyota Tacoma loan in full. The payoff was withdrawn from my account on September 9, 2026, and delivered to Hughes on September 14. Today is September 30, meaning Hughes received my payoff 13 business days ago.
I contacted Hughes simply to confirm whether the lien/title had been released and whether the title was being mailed to my home. Despite providing my identifying and account information, they refused to even tell me whether the title had been sent because I couldn't remember the name of the financial institution that originally transferred the loan to Hughes.
Their alternative verification method was for me to provide a password that apparently came in a welcome packet when the loan was transferred to them. Apparently, I'm expected to have kept that packet and have the password readily available years later.
I understand the need to verify a customer's identity, but I have never encountered a verification process like this. I wasn't trying to withdraw money, change my address, or make any changes to the account. I simply wanted to know whether the title to a vehicle I have now paid off was sent to me.
To make matters worse, the chat representative became increasingly dismissive rather than helping me find another reasonable way to verify my identity.
After 13 business days, I still can't even get confirmation that my title has been sent. Based on both the customer service and the difficulty of getting basic information about my paid-off loan, I would not voluntarily do business with Hughes Federal Credit Union again.
