Beware Avis Budget deposit scams
On a scale of 1 to 10 , being generous minus 10. Why did i use Budget i knew they are rubbish but renting for one day i thought surely cant go wrong . What i am reading in the reviews is that Avis Budget make shed loads of money by scamming customers out of their deposits. They are uncontactable and unresponsive . Currently i am working with my credit card company to get back the 1000 euro that Avis have scammed out of me . Of course i am prepared to correct my review in the light of any positive developments coming from Avis but from what I read this wont happen
Well here we are 3months after the rental and still trying to get back the whole deposit which is due . Avis are appalling . lazy and it would seem often just out to scam money on their deposit schemes . Shame 1 star is the lowest that can be given. There ought to be a minus star rating . Also dont use platforms like Economy Bookings they wont assist at all when there is a problem

I state that this was my best car rental experience. I really care to leave a review because before my departure I read just bad experiences and I was really worried. By the way I have to say that the majority of these negative reviews are given by uninformed people; I always advise to read all the conditions and terms before to rent a car. Anyway, I arrived at Riga airport in late (25 minutes) and at the Avis desk they told me that my car category was over (Vw golf dsg), so they offered me a double upgrade to a Vw Passat dsg if I wanted to wait about 40 minutes. I agreed and I decided to subscribe the super CDW insurance and glasses protection. They gave us also an additional driver for free! (However I must say that on website the minimum age requirements do not correspond to reality - at this airport there are no minimum age requirements (this is what they told me), and for that no extra fee is applied)); they charged us 95E for the fuel up front option, and we got the money back after the rental period because we left the car refilled. During the wait the girl at the desk was very kind to advise us some places where to get authentic food. After the wait they brought us a shiny brand new car with only 4000 km on the odometer, and the guy showed us the present damages and the way to our hotel. We dropped of the car really early (Desk was closed) and the procedure was really easy. Just a tip, be careful because driving offroad is forbidden and in Latvia there are thousands of road works. In conclusion I advise this society and this specific location to rent, but read the policy before to be upset. Thank you, I will rent again with you.
Do not use Avis Budget LHR T5, the absolute worst
Under no circumstances use Avis at Terminal 5. In fact I'd recommend avoiding Avis everywhere. But Terminal 5 is especially horrendous. The staff is fake polite but as unhelpful and unscrupulous as they can possibly be. The only reason I used Avis because of location convenience but not worth it at all. I booked through BA car hire. When checking out, they did not give me the car I selected (I could see two of them in parking area available) and gave me another car saying it was the same class. The check out guy then charged $750 over my prepaid voucher claiming that it was higher cost because I was returning the car an hour later than the time I was picking up. He said one hour later on return adds a full day's cost. That makes no sense whatsoever because I put the pick up/returns days and times in my prepaid BA voucher and that is the total cost they gave me. The dodgy clerk at Avis adds on $750? He then tells me that he cannot refund the charge then because he already swiped my card but it will be done return. Yeah right. Shady AF. I get to the crap car assigned to me and gas tank is not full as they stated, it's short about 1/4 tank, but by now it's taken 2 hours so I didn't complain. This car has such poorly designed interior that if you put a drink in the cup holder, you can't shift gears and the steering wheel blocked the view of the speedometer. I returned it the next day, got my money back and got a much better car from Enterprise for almost 50% less than Avis. Just don't do it, these guys are the worse car rental company everywhere where you go. There's a reason Heathrow is called Thiefrow and these guys are it.

Jeg lejede en bil hos Avis Danmark til afhentning i Rom Ciampino. Fuld forsikring, vejhjælp og ekstra chauffør inkluderet i det tilbud, Avis sendte som bekræftelse. Efter at have ventet i kø, fik jeg en stribe dokumenter på italiensk, som jeg skulle signere på. Det er gjort før uden problemer. Men nu kræver Avis så en ekstrabetaling for alverdens ekstra tilkøb på mere end 2.000 kr. Jeg har intet ekstra tilkøbt - og Avis er særdeles afvisende på min telefoniske klage. Jeg er færdig med Avis. Det håber jeg også også at du er…

Al momento del ritiro mi è stata rifilata un’assicurazione casco mai richiesta dicendomi che il costo era in torno ai 35€, ma poi ho scoperto essere costata abbondantemente sopra i 100€. Alla richiesta di spiegazioni al momento del ritiro mi è stato detto di non preoccuparmi che mi sarebbero stati stornati alla riconsegna cosa ovviamente mai successa.
Io sicuramente ho sbagliato a fidarmi delle parole dell’addetto Avis che mi ha lasciato la macchina a Spalato, ma mi sento di dare un paio di consigli a chi dovesse affittare una macchina.
Innanzitutto, è banale dirlo, MAI fidarsi delle parole di chi vuole solo tirare acqua al proprio mulino e quindi cerca solo di spillarvi più soldi possibile.
Il secondo consiglio è che se mai doveste ritrovarvi nella mia situazione, prima di riconsegnare la macchina ricordatevi che l’assicurazione casco copre TUTTI i danni accidentali al veicolo e, non sono un meccanico ma so che ci sono danni che neanche la franchigia basta a coprirli. 😉

When we took the car on our first day (at 11:00 pm), there was no check in made.
The following day when we woke up we discovered that the car was slightly scratched. We tried to call the rental office several times to inform them but nobody would pick up the phone. Then at the end of our trip when we gave back the car, the office charged us for the scratch (that we were not responsible for!!!). This is outrageous

Several weeks ago I made an agrrement with Avis to rent a car for my holiday. The plan was to pick up the car in Rome (FCO) on 4th July.
I complered the online pre-check in two days before arrival. And the day after I got an email from Avis confirming that everything was fine, and telling me that the pick up of would work smoothly, they just have to verify my credit card, drivers license and passport information.
However, on the arrival date the car was not ready nor present at FCO. The staff tried to call various colleagues to figure out the problem/reason. After 20-30 minutes of waiting outside the office I was then suddenly asked to leave the rental station. The reason giving by the staff was: "There is something wrong with you!" 🥺
They could not tell me what exactly was/is wrong with me. But clearly it was now my fault that the staff was unable to fullfil the rental agreement. 😮
I know for sure that there are no problems with either my credit card, passport or driver license.
I have never before experienced such an unproffesional customer handling and such a lack of being service minded. 😡
Right after I went to the office of Europe Car, where I rented a car without having any issues at all. 😊
Avis Budget Palma de Mallorca: Nieee wieder
Die Mitarbeiter des Büros (Flughafen P. de. Mallorca) von Avis Budget waren nicht bereit, das Auto bei Rückgabe zu überprüfen. Sie deuteten stattdessen auf den Briefkasten, in welchen wir den Schlüssen reinschmeißen sollten.
Einige Tage später kam ein Brief mit fragwürdigen Bildern eines Schadens am Dach, den wir angeblich verursacht hätten; sichtbar war eine minimale Delle, die uns nicht aufgefallen war und die wir - nach unserer Kenntnis -auch nicht verursacht hatten. Avis Budget zog dafür einfach eine "Reparaturkostenpauschale" von 200,00 EUR nebst "Schadensbearbeitungsgebühr" von EUR 65,00 EUR ein. Es gab keine objektive Überprüfung; Avis Budget war auch nicht bereit, die Protokolle der Vormieter zu einer Überprüfung der Vorschadensituation zu übersenden. Ein absolut unwürdiges Vorgehen. Nie wieder !!!

Le pire SAV jamais expérimenté. Je tourne en boucle sur des répondeurs sans avoir jamais le moindre interlocuteur humain. Voilà 10 jours que j'essaye d'entrer en contact avec eux sans succès. Si vous avez le moindre pépin c'est la catastrophe. Les agences locales n'ont ni numéro de téléphone ni mail, un calvaire.

Más de un mes despues del alquiler de una furgoneta me llegó la letra de una agencia de cobras, reclamándome dos daños. De una tengo por suerte una foto demostrándo que ya estaba, la otra por malasuerte no, pero tampoco era mía...
Además me han dado alquilado una furgoneta con miles de rayones, golpes… ni siquiera podia cerrarla...
He obtenido una lista de daños a la recogida de la furgoneta - ni siquiera un imagen con los sitios exactos de los daños, solo una lista descriptiva... increíble. Luego, el hombre quien me entregó la furgoneta me iba mostrar las fotos de los daños en su móvil, pero “por casualidad” no tenia cobertura en donde estaba aparcado la furgoneta… entonces no me lo mostró, solo la revisé otra vez conmigo, añadiendo cosas y yo teniendole fé... Una practica lamentable.
Devolviendo la furgoneta, la chica quien cogió la llave no podia hacer la revision conmigo, era la tarea de sus compañeros… otra practica repugnante.
Son sanguijuelas de verdad.
Beware of scams at Avis, Faro Airport, Portugal
I had prebooked and paid for an Avis hire car for 1 week from Faro airport. I declined additional insurance as I'd taken out a separate policy. At the site office, they wouldn't print the hire contract ("because of COVID"), and asked me to sign on the screen. All that was visible was a signature box. After renting, I was emailed a copy of the contract with additional charges highlighted, as if I had agreed to them which I definitely hadn't. I was charged the standard rate for the car, including additional insurance, and my prepaid voucher was deducted from the cost. This doubled the price of the car for the week. Complaining to AVIS got nowhere....they just say you signed the contract. They don't care that their employees are outright scammers. So a WARNING: don't sign anything electronically without seeing a full copy of the contract with all charges. DON'T expect to be safe from scams because you book with a global brand. CHECK all the paperwork very carefully.

I was charged over £250 for minor pre existing scuffing of 3/4 wheel rims which was not sustained during my rental. I complained to the CEO’s office expecting to get someone who would speak sense and instead my side of the story was ignored and told that as their documentation showed this was new damage I would have to pay this absurd repair fee for pre-existing damage that they clearly were not going to need to repair! Worst car hire experience yet, dishonest and ripped me off!

I have just been a victim of discrimination by this Avis branch, I booked for 3 day as a key worker and was refused the vehicle by ABU the customer service agent at the branch. Abu's reason for refusal was because i had 6 points on my licence. i provided a DVLA licence check code and after checking, the result was 6 penalty point endorsement under - MS90 Failure to give information as to identity of driver, which i am currently appealing. I explained to ABU that just 2 weeks ago i had a previous booking and was able to get a car with exactley the same licence with points etc, i pleaded with Abu but he just did not want to hear it. I asked to see the Terms and conditions which stipulates this but Abu was not interested.ABU then gave me the email address of Ahron Tolley who i should contact. i have now been left with no vehicle to transport a sick relative to the hospital outside of the city. I am an avis preferred member who has always used Avis, I was treated with utter contempt by this branch. my booking number was 4934-2063-GB-1

I travel 200 days a year and I rent cars all the time, so I have a qualified experience in rentals to make this comment.
They cheated me for three times the amount I was supposed to pay.
After calling them 20 times now, where they admit the problem, promise to solve the case and call me back (and not doing it), I have decided that everybody should know this prior to supporting this company !! Stay away from Avis !!
