With Avis i got my worse car rental…
With Avis i got my worse car rental experience in my life! They stole my money by giving me much smaller car then I ordered! They never replayed on my complain and then they charged even more money then it was written on the contract! Very disrespectful company! They destroyed our family vacation! I RECOMMEND TO NEVER RENT A CAR FROM AVIS! I saw those reviews before I rented a car at Bergamo Airport in Italy but I thought that maybe it is fake but it is not! This company is the worse! Last time I rented a car from Alamo and it was 10 times better experience!
Booked last year through AVIS budget…
Booked last year through AVIS budget for two weeks of car hire in Florida in August. To be honest I didn’t realise that AVIS operates as separate companies - however they allowed me to book and took my deposit of just under £1000. Their policy says that this was fully refundable up to three days before the hire date.
I cancelled the booking in April and have so far spent over two months trying to recover my deposit. I have been told numerous times that the booking has been refunded (it has not) and at various times that AVIS are prioritising refunds for American’s (I am in the UK), and that they cannot refund in GBP, even though I paid in GBP. This is of course all nonsense and really just AVIS trying to stall payment. This I can (just) understand but what I can’t tolerate is the utter contempt that AVIs are showing for their customers. Have now pursued through my credit card company.

Richtig unfreundlich und unseriös. Sperren jemanden aber geben nicht bescheid das man nicht mehr mieten kann. Lassen einen 1,5stunden mit bus, Bahn und Zug anreisen und dann sagen:" sie bekommen kein auto". Hauptsache das Geld kassieren für keine Leistung. Morgens steht in der app ihr auto steht bereit und dann ist plötzlich kein auto mehr da?! Irgend etwas stimmt da nicht mit dem komischen Verein! Die haben noch 1000€ kautionen seit über 2jahren und das Geld bekomme ich seit dem nicht mehr wieder.
Ist definitiv nicht weiter zu empfehlen!

Booked a car in Vienna with prepaid all of the cost plus a little extra insurance when I got to the airport. When I returned the car I was charged extra 50£ for an additional extra package that I’ve never agreed on! Never got an answer from them of why that happened.
Never again with this company. They had their chance!!

Inkompetent biludlejning
I februar 2020 lejede jeg en bil hos Avis. Jeg skulle afhente bilen i lufthavnen i Milano. Det startede dårligt allerede der..
Personalet i Avis-afdelingen i lufthavnen var tydeligvis inkompetente. Deres engelsk var elendigt og til at starte med nægtede de at udleje bilen til mig, da de ikke kunne finde ud af at aflæse et dansk kørekort. Efter en del spildtid indså de, at de havde lavet en fejl og jeg fik lov til at leje bilen. Men det sluttede ikke her.. Personalet prøvede selvfølgelig at sælge mig en masse ekstra dyre forsikringer, denne hoppede jeg ikke på. Jeg allerede var forsikret gennem et andet selskab, men hvis jeg ikke havde været vågen og forstod deres gebrokkent engelsk, så havde de solgt mig en masse dyre forsikringer.
Da jeg endelig ser bilen, er det selvfølgelig en anden, end den jeg har lejet. De vælger at give min en lille Fiat 500 med 65 HK, der knapt nok kan trække op af bjergene i Lombardiet..
Derudover har de glemt at give os snekæder med i bilen, hvilket er LOVPLIGTIG i dette område og årstid. Hvis vi havde endt i rabatten, havde det været LIVSFARLIGT og vi kunne have fået en kæmpe bøde, for ikke at have snekæder med.
Resten af turen gik heldigvis smertefrit og der var ikke mere besvær, troede vi.....
Jeg kommer hjem til Danmark og 3 måneder efter jeg har lejet bilen, har Avis Biludlejning hævet et beløb fra min konto, uden min tilladelse eller opmærksomhed. Jeg har ikke modtaget nogen regning, de har bare "stjålet" penge fra min konto, uden videre besked. Jeg sørgede for at læse papirer og policer godt igennem, ingen af disse nævnte regninger eller gebyrer der ville blive trukket 3 måneder efter udlejning.
Lige nu forsøger jeg at korrespondere med Avis Biludlejning og få en forklaring, men deres kundeservice er elendig, svær at få fat på og umulig at forstå.
Jeg vil ikke anbefale dette biludlejningsfirma til nogen, de prøver på at snyde dig med deres griske forretningsmodel. Føj.

Never again!
we rented a car friday afternoon, had our small trip to fyn (without any problems at all!) We drove very carefully and treated the car nice. When we returned the car sunday evening it had three tiny scratches near the wheel at size: 1 mm each and they charge us 1500 dkkr! The scratches are so small, one would never see them before renting, never! The car was in bad shape before we rented it, it had scratches everywhere. Unfortunately for us, the three tiny scratches were not registered anywhere. We often rent cars, we know the drill, this is just hilarious.
In the future we will use another car rental service like Hertz, we never have problems with them, good service always!

I booked via holiday autos on kayak. nowhere did it say the flight information was compulsory to confirm booking. in fact it said it was optional.
my flight arrived slightly late (30 mins). the instructions on the booking email were wrong, the Avis car rental desk was NOT in the airport terminal (Naples).
After getting luggage we were at the desk more than an hour after the booking time, and Avis tried to con us out of more money, saying we lost our booking!
After one hour?
Spent 40 mins on hold to Holiday Autos customer service in Manila, with my pregnant partner next to me in tears. They refused to refund me and Avis refused to honour the booking.
Terrible, terrible service from both suppliers. Avoid Holiday Autos like the plague and avoid Avis, especially in Naples.
We booked another car on the spot with Sicily Autos in the same building for less than what Avis were trying to scam off us. Thank you Sicily Autos :)
Avis/Budget ripped me off.
Avis/Budget ripped me off and after weeks of supposed ‘investigation’ rejected my complaint. I paid in advance total rental charges for a six days car hire at Boston Airport. Their agent at the rental desk tried hard to sell me extra insurance and covers but I refused to pay any extra. I already had my own extra car rental insurance. The agent in the end handed me the car keys saying, there was nothing more to pay, it was all prepaid; I signed the screen where the agent asked me to sign. After my rental period ended, I noticed that I paid additional $112 for the extra insurance I asked for. I was shocked! I did not ask for any extra insurance and the extra insurance it showed on paper was already covered under my private insurance. The agent, with her mouth was saying that there was nothing more to pay; but in fact she had already added extra insurance WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE OR CONSENT!... Be very careful with Avis/Budget... they have lost me, my family, friends and colleagues as customers for good... it is your chance to learn from my experience. Go elsewhere, there are other good car rental companies around. Subsequently I made a complaint but after weeks and weeks of ‘investigation’ my claim/complaint was rejected because I signed on the TFT screen at the rental desk. Please be aware of these Fraudsters; they know very well that once they trick you into signing on that screen on rental desk; you can do nothing and will end up paying whatever they want you to pay. Take care and rent a car from some other reputable company but not Avis/Budget Group. Thanks for reading my feedback.
Avis put a costumer under covid19 risk
I booked a reservation at Avis to pick up a car at the Malaga airport 03/31/20.
The reservation was confirmed by email, but they didn't give a car! They simply was closed due to coronavirus. But sixt was working.
I was abandoned by the company at the Malaga airport, in the covid19 pandemy!

I had a car from them during the floods . Understandably the floods weren't there fault but they just failed to let me know when they were to pick up the car . So , I was left to hold there car on my drive after the hire had ended without knowing when they were coming. So, I then became a storage centre for them . Eventually someone did call me and got the car .

Avis Budget Nice Airport
Huge queues to collect the car and everything done on a screen. Existing damage was done electronically marked by a tiny red dot which did not reflect the full extent of the damage, two massive scratches and surrounding damage either side of the car.
I handed the car back with no word of any problem. Two weeks later I receive something from Budapest. The photos showed the wheel arch and the existing damage to the car. I contacted customer services who informed me the damage was to the rear bumper. I asked for further evidence but they merely amended the invoice and took money from my account and withheld my deposit.
I have requested more information and to escalate my complaint but nothing has been done I just get the same response.
First Rate Service - Recommended
I have an AVIS PRESIDENT membership and I always find they are very helpful and usually keen on price. I am unsure why other people have negative experiences I rent 12/15 times a year and have only had on bad experience in 10 years so I recommend Avis 100% based on my experience renting in the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Malta and Spain.

I rented a car which we had to wait 2 hours for. The guy at Avis Giardini Naxos took 2 hours to tell us our car was not available. Mind you we booked this in advance. He awaited another couple to arrive then drove us all up to the Toarmina Avis centre. As there were no cars available he said.
After further waiting half an hour the car they gave us was the car he drove us up in - So in fact the car was there they just used it to take us all up to the other location to get the other couple a car ( they had nothing to do with our booking) And was not the car we booked let along any type of upgrade.
After receiving the car we didn't get to do a damage report as we were already pressed for time having to get a ferry to calabria for our next stay.
Upon returning the vehicle they plugged us afterwards AFTER dropping it off at the airport - not even the same day it took me weeks to get a report on what the charge was for.
The report claimed saying we did damages which we did not - so they scammed us. I am still in dispute with them as well as the Australian Financial Complaints Authority and still awaiting our refund for false charges.
NEVER WOULD RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY THEY HAVE BEEN SO DIFFICULT AND UNLAWFUL IN THEIR PROCESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ich hatte im September 2019 sehr günstig einen Mietwagen über check24 gebucht (23 € für die Fahrt vom Flughafen nach Ulm). Das Personal am Flughafen München machte bereits einen sehr demotivierten Eindruck (vielleicht auch überarbeitet). Diese Einstellung begegnete mir allerdings im Laufe des gesamten Prozesses.
Das Fahrzeug sollte am folgenden Tag (Sonntag) an der Station in Ulm zurückgegeben werden. Weder an der Tür noch sonst wo auf dem gesamten Areal befand sich ein Hinweis, wo Schlüssel sicher deponiert werden können. Die Dame bei der sogenannten Hotline war genauso desinteressiert/überarbeitet als ich versuchte herauszufinden, wie ich vorgehen sollte. Ich erhielt den "guten" Rat, das Fahrzeug einfach am Montag zu bringen!!!! Erst nach einer erneuten Erkundungstour ist mir der kleine (graue) Kasten für die Schlüssel zufällig aufgefallen, der in einer Nische auf der anderen Seite des Gebäudes völlig unscheinbar platziert ist.
Um Probleme zu vermeiden und mich darüber zu versichern, dass alles in Ordnung ist, bin ich am Montag Nachmittag bei der Station vorbeigegangen. Mir wurde dann auch ganz locker flockig - jedoch nicht mehr motiviert - von dem jungen Mann versichert, dass keine Schäden am Fahrzeug sind, ich wurde dafür gelobt, dass das Fahrzeug vollgetankt ist und es sei auch bereits wieder vermietet.
Meine Kaution bekam ich nicht zurück. Ich habe mich dann an check24 gewandt. Einmal im September, dann im Oktober noch einmal. Die Bearbeitungszeit betrage 8 - 10 Wochen wurde mir offenbart. Jetzt Ende Januar habe ich nachgehakt, da von weder von check24 noch von Avis irgendwelche weiteren Informationen kamen. Und nun hieß es, die Kaution wurde zurückbehalten, da ich das Fahrzeug nicht vollgetankt habe!!! Nun musste ich meine Belegwe erneut einreichen. Wunderbarerweise habe ich nun die Kaution auch sehr schnell - tatsächlich innerhalb 3 Tagen - zurückerhalten.

Booked a car, and then I had to cancel. They charged me anyway (and I am OK with that). So they charged VAT yet now they absolutely refuse to issue a VAT receipt. Despite them being required to do so by VAT Notice 700 section 16.2.1
The worst customer service I have ever encountered. The automated phone system is deliberately circular, and when you finally get someone, they promise to resolve it and fail completely.

Fraud by AVIS Rental Car at Munich Airport
I returned a rented car to AVIS at Munich airport on the 5.10.2019 ( it was collected on the 16.9.2019 ), the car was in good condition, and the staff never told my anything about the car at that time, or afterwards.
The payment for the rental period was made by me months prior to that, so i was later surprised to see that they charged him 949 Euros on that day ( 5.10.2019 ).
I inquired with VISA about it, and after months of alleged investigation by them, i got a letter from AVIS on the 7.1.2020, which was "backdated" to the 10.10.2019, claiming that the 949 Euros was for alleged external damage to the car, even though nothing was said to me up to that point at all.
Moreover upon checking with VISA, it emerged that the money was charged from my card an hour after he returned it, which makes no sense at all, from my experience, any damage has to be determined at a certified garage, that takes at least weeks to do.
There was also no photographic evidence of that alleged damage.
My wife was with me in the car the entire trip, and can attest that we weren't involved in any accident, nor was any damage caused to the car.
I also forgot a new Ipad pro device in the car, which i informed the company about immediately on the 5.10.2019, yet they never replied me back.
Crooks !!!
Deposit for car hire not returned after 2 months
Went to pick up a pre paid for car in the UK (through Auto Europe Australia), but was told I was early (15 minutes) so I could be upgraded for an additional £10 per day, which I agreed to. The service agent then tried to tell me that I wasn't insured and it would cost me a further £15 per day. Luckily I had the original reservation which clearly showed I was covered for basic insurance.
AVIS took a deposit of £200 which has never been returned and is nearly two months since the car was returned.
Trying to contact customer service dumps you in a queue of elevator music and marketing messages but no one answers the phone.
Their business model clearly cares little about customer service and more about relieving the customer of their cash.
