Alamo car hire ohare chicago well what a load if CRAP.
On my 50th decided to do route 66 with my wife.
Arrived to pick up the car i ordered a sporty car ie dodge challanger v8 there were no sporty v8 he offered me a v8 which looked like suv hardly sporty .we ended up with a weak mustang eco boost convertable so you can imagine the fun every night of our road trip trying to get the suitcase out of the back seat as only 1 fitted in the boot, what a let down .
Then the next bit spent an hr waiting for gps as they were all old did not work and were flat they managed to get one but some of the letters were touch sensative and did not work the manager dealing with us said dont worry i put 300 dollars as a refund this was on 4 sep 2025
Waited a month no refund what a surprise. Emailed them they have said it will take up to another 90 days yes 4 months to give you a 300 dollar refund what a JOKE
To sum it up if your after a certain car dont bother as when you arrive all they got is SHIT .Then with refunds i personally think they drag it out as long as possible so you give up . ABSOLUTLELY DISGUSTING for a company if that size. Do yourself a favour and dont bother

Our friends from Guatemala hired a car online with Hola and when they arrived at Waverley Train station in Edinburgh to collect their car they were told that his driving licence had to be translated from Spanish and without this he could not get the car even though he had already paid $332. They did not refund or apologise for this incredible inconvenience.

Wir haben über Mietwagen-check.at einen Mietwagen in Österreich vom 1. bis 9. Juli gebucht – inklusive sämtlicher Versicherungen.
Wir haben eine Anzahlung geleistet, der Restbetrag sollte vor Ort bezahlt werden.
Am Mietschalter fragte die Mitarbeiterin nach unserer Reservierungsnummer, die sie im System fand. Sie zeigte uns erneut, was wir gebucht hatten, und fragte uns wegen einer Zusatzversicherung für sämtlichen Schäden usw.
Wir haben mit „ Ja diese haben wir schon“ geantwortet und daraufhin bat sie um unseren Führerschein sowie die Kreditkarte zur Zahlung.

Am nächsten Tag stellten wir fest, dass der auf der Kreditkarte reservierte Betrag nicht mit dem Restbetrag übereinstimmte, den wir in Österreich hätten zahlen sollen.
Unser Freund aus Schweden rief Ihr Unternehmen an, um die Situation zu klären. Ihm wurde mitgeteilt, dass alles in Ordnung sei und dass der höhere Betrag nur vorübergehend reserviert werde, bis wir das Auto zurückgeben.
Abgebucht werde lediglich der in Österreich vereinbarte Betrag. Das war für uns in Ordnung.

Am Abreisetag ging ich noch einmal zum Schalter, um alles zu überprüfen. Wieder wurde mir bestätigt, dass alles in Ordnung sei und wir die Rechnung im Laufe des Tages per E-Mail erhalten würden, in der die endgültigen Details ersichtlich seien.

Dann kam die Rechnung der Firma ALAMO!!!!!!!!!!
Der volle Betrag von 7.458,80 SEK (€675,01) wurde abgebucht, statt des in Österreich vereinbarten Restbetrags von 4.308,83 SEK (€388,56) – also 3.149,97 SEK (€286,45) mehr als vereinbart.
Außerdem erhielten wir eine Woche später die Rechnung von Mietwagen-check.at i.h.v €388,56.- , da wir laut Firma die Reservierung nicht beansprucht haben (Fahrzeug nicht abgeholt) bzw. nicht storniert haben.

Nach mehrmaligen Kontaktaufnahmen mit BEIDEN Firmen kamen wir zu keiner Klärung des Problems. Anscheinend hat die Dame vor Ort am Schalter uns falsch verstanden und eine NEUE Reservierung durchgeführt (mit Versicherung) und die bestehende Reservierung von Mietwagen-Check.at einfach ignoriert.

Beide Firmen haben nach mehrmaliger Bitte um Klärung einfach den Kontakt abgebrochen.
Und wir sind nun einfach auf den doppelten Kosten sitzen geblieben!

Abzocke pur!
Das erinnert stark an Betrug – am Ende wurde der Mietpreis für das Auto einfach verdoppelt!
Man zahlt die Versicherung online und nochmal am Terminal – völlige Frechheit.
Auf Rückmeldung wartet man natürlich vergeblich.
Absolut nicht zu empfehlen! Nie wieder!

!!! Ergänzung: Ich habe euch schon zweimal per E-Mail geschrieben... Beruhigt habt ihr mich. :) Wahrscheinlich lacht ihr immer noch.

Ich will euch einfach nur vergessen, als würdet ihr gar nicht existieren.

I hired a budget car from Granada in Spain and dropping it off in Santander airport. I went to the train station to pick up the car and was upgraded to a top quality all singing and dancing car. They tried to sell their waiver insurance but took out a far cheaper one from the UK so declined that. I returned it to Santander airport and was offered a quarter tank of full ticket for my next hire as I returned it with more fuel than when I picked it up. I declined this as I was delighted with the upgrade. The deposit was returned the next day.
Looking at all the poor reviews I nearly went for another company but I’m pleased I went with Alamo.

Having returned a rented a car on holiday in France at the end of August, I came back to England to find an email stating an added charge 349,94Euros. There was no explanation of the cost but it had been charged against the credit card details that they held. Fast forward 6 weeks: numerous chat messages, phone calls etc. I have not had a single acknowledgment from the branch responsible (Bergerac Airport) and whenever I speak to Alamo Customer Services, they tell me that they have no jurisdictions over the sites dealings with customers and can only sent messages to them - which has already been done at least 3 or 4 times and no response from the Manager, Branch or Area Manager. I am still 349,94Euros out of pocket with nobody willing to contact me as to how they can help, let alone resolve this. Do not use these cowboys. I'd rather pay extra and use someone else.

When I first booked my car, I was a bit hesitant because of the many negative reviews I had read. However, my own experience with Alamo turned out to be excellent.
• The office is very close to the airport.
• Service was fast, professional, and customer-oriented.
• The pickup process was clear, with photos and proper documentation.
• The car itself was new, clean, and stylish.
• The security deposit was released within 24 hours, which was a great surprise.

In the past, I had bad experiences with other companies (especially the scam company Direct Rent in Bucharest, Romania). This time, Alamo really changed my perspective and gave me the best rental experience so far.

Highly recommended!

Nous avons réservé un Toyota RAV4 du 24 août au 03 septembre 2025, dans l'ensemble nous sommes satisfait de la prestation. Le véhicule est celui que nous avions réservé, la restitution de la voiture a été rapide. Quand j'ai reçu par mail la facture j'ai eu la surprise que l'option "service carburant" d'un montant de 85,37 dollars canadien nous a été facturé. Cette dernière aurait permis de rendre le réservoir vide. Sachant que nous avons rendu le réservoir plein je me rend au comptoir de l'aéroport de Montréal et je rencontre le responsable, ce dernier m'affirme que dans la demi-heure je devrais recevoir par mail une facture de remboursement et ma carte de crédit du montant. J'ai reçu le remboursement dans les heures qui suivent.
Nous tenons à remercier le personnel pour leur rapidité et leur professionalisme.

Ho noleggiato un'auto all'aeroporto di Cork e l'ho restituita a Dublino. Quando ho ritirato l'auto a Cork, ho controllato rapidamente l'esterno per eventuali problemi e non ho notato nulla. Con la mia famiglia siamo partiti per andare a visitare il Castello di Blarney ma percorrendo la strada, il pneumatico è scoppiato senza aver urtato nessun oggetto, abbiamo chiamato il numero del pronto intervento (riportato sul contratto del noleggio e sulla macchina) alle ore 18 per chiedere soccorso, dopo varie domande oltre alla dinamica dell’accaduto mi hanno chiesto il modello e dimensioni del pneumatico da sostituire e che il tempo d’attesa sarebbe stato di circa 1 ora e 30 min,attendiamo l’arrivo ma dopo ben 2 ore ancora nulla e quindi decido di richiamare, ricevendo la solita risposta di prima che i soccorritori erano in arrivo, alle ore 20 ancora nessuno,decido di richiamare per la terza volta l’assistenza anche con l’aiuto di un santo uomo del posto,che vedendoci fermi li per ore parla direttamente lui con l’assistenza e ci riferisce che l’assistenza prima delle 22 non sarebbe venuto per problemi di organizzazione, morale della favola io e la mia famiglia siamo stati in attesa di aiuti dalle ore 18 per poi essere soccorsi alle ore 23:31 dal gommista che è venuto in soccorso e la sua chiamata da parte di Alamo è stata ricevuta alle ore 21:30…..tempo di riparazione 15 min e per fortuna siamo tornati a casa stremati ed impauriti dell’accaduto…
Al mattino seguente sono andato presso il punto di ritiro a Cork per contestare l’accaduto che dopo varie discussioni e polemiche (riguardo l’estenuante attesa dei soccorritori) siamo riusciti ad accordarci di dover pagare la cifra di 250€ illudendoci che fosse solamente quella la cifra dovuta, mentre invece alla consegna definitiva della macchina a Dublino mi sono state addebitate altre 250€.
Soldi rubati per un servizio non ricevuto oltre al rischio di fare veramente un grave incidente…
Consiglio vivamente di stare alla larga da questa azienda

Alamo handed me a car that should never have been on the road. The vehicle I received had a broken rim and a bent steering system — making it outright dangerous to drive. It is absolutely clear that no proper inspection was done before handing it over, even though their paperwork claims otherwise. That is not just negligence, it borders on fraud. Now, instead of taking responsibility, they are trying to push the damage onto me. Completely unacceptable and disgraceful business practices. I am considering taking legal action. Avoid this rental company at all costs!

Update: Tried to contact them, no chance from outside of canada. Left them a note to get back to me, ignored, just nothing.

Today I received the invoice for 800$.

They claim they want to resolve things, but clearly they dont.

Car not ready at booked time.
Type of booked car changed to a much cheaper type without discount. We paid full price for the new car. Unpolite staff lying about the car. Service is so low in this company.
Do not use this company.

I’m currently renting a Alamo BMtrWoubleu which I picked up from Toronto Airport.

The car is an X3 with 65k km on the clock, has a damaged license plate, the tyres needed pumping up to correct pressure and every time I pull away from startup, I see a message saying the warning triangles on the wing mirror are defect (and to call the garage).

I booked a high end vehicle because it’s my first time driving in Canada and I wanted something that reliable and reputable and am used to from Europe.

The level of cars in this category was Q3, GLC or X3.

I don’t have a phone capable of making phone calls without costing a huge amount, however I do have data and so I have tried to contact them ( which they make as hard as possible ).

I tried sending an email to customer services, but nothing in days, care @ alamo.com is ironically named. Also the text number they sent me after I picked up the car doesn’t work either.

Considering this is Enterprise it’s quite shocking really - clearly Alamo provides the beaten up vehicles and (maybe) enterprise have the good vehicles. Alamo do not appear to care that the car has an important safety features disabled due to a problem - not even enough to at least respond - crazy!

In stark contrast I deal with Sixt in the UK and Europe and they are beyond brilliant (I couldn’t find them in Canada, so had to choose another vendor). They cost quite a bit more than the budget car hire companies but are so worth it.

Unfortunately I used the reviews on booking.com when choosing Alamo - lesson learnt.

As this is a live review - I’ll keep you posted, so you can be up to date on progress if you are about to hit the ‘Hire’ button.

On the plus side, the people serving us at Alamo - at the airport were really pleasant.

Shame the customer services let them down.

Update: I forgot to add, there are scuff on the bumpers and it looks like it’s been in a bit of a scrap with another vehicle and the drivers side air con controls don’t work. It can be changed by using the touch screen, but you have to navigate through a number of menus to find the controls. Whilst driving that’s not too easy.

Update:
- decided to try dontcare @ Alamo.com, also got no response from that.
- left front tyre clearly has a slow puncture or there is a leak somewhere as it’s losing pressure. Last about 4 days before it’s down by 4-5 PSI.
- yellow MIL keeps coming on and going off after a few driving cycles. Seems to be a cold start thing as it comes on after start up as the idle is around 200 rpm higher than normal.
- rear passenger door seal keeps coming away from the frame.

If this is ‘Premium’ I’m very glad I didn’t rent standard. Image that!

Esta oficina se dedica a timarte descaradamente.
Nos entregaron el vehículo por la noche en un sitio con poca iluminación todo sucio sin lavar bien, ni secar bien. La zona de entrega del vehículo estaba con poquísima iluminación.
Al devolver el vehículo nos pasaron un daño de neumático insignificante que ya presentaba al momento de recogida del vehículo, nunca imaginamos que nos podían retener 1700€ por esto, la intención es para descontar por daños que podrían ser entre 450€ o 600€.
Le pedimos la hoja de reclamación y se negaron a darla.
Las tres personas que atendían estaban no atendían nuestros reclamos( dos chicas, una era la encargada y un chico) totalmente incompetentes y entrenados para quitarle el dinero a la gente. Se nota muchísimo que la directiva biene de arriba y es un modus operandi.
En fin la prioridad es buscar cualquier escusa para poder quitarte dinero.

Jamas volveré a alquilar un coche aquí.

Si es tu última y única opción de alquiler te recomiendo que hagas vídeos de todo el coche detenidamente.

Beschädigtes Fahrzeug erhalten und nun angeblich durch mich verursachte Schäden - Gelogen. Völlig verschmutzt, Unfallschäden, Kratzer, Dellen, Scheibe 2 x defekt, Reifendruck Sensor defekt. Personal ist nicht bereit, Vorschäden zu dokumentieren. Das ist völlige Abzocke. Angeblich soll ich nun die Schäden verursacht haben, was definitiv gelogen ist.

Usato Alamo per la prima volta negli USA. Auto nuovissima e pulita. Prenotazione chiara. Possibilità di scegliere auto al ritiro. Rapidi ritiro e consegna. Esperienza molto positiva.

El banco nos ha cobrado importes diferentes nadie nos aclara que és ya llevamos pagados mas de 700€ i no conseguimos que nadie nos explique que són.
