I’m sorry
I’m sorry, but I cannot recommend this university to anyone. I studied BA Hospitality Management in Swansea, and from my personal experience, I felt that students’ interests were not a priority and that the university was far more focused on financial gain.
During my studies, I experienced serious problems, including an academic misconduct accusation which, in my opinion, was not supported by clear and convincing evidence. I also felt there was bias from two lecturers and very little understanding of international students for whom English is not their first language.
I had a particularly negative experience with a lecturer named Daniel. From my perspective, his focus seemed more on looking for possible academic misconduct than on supporting students. I felt that his approach had serious consequences and contributed to me losing the opportunity to continue and complete my studies.
The organisation of the course was also very poor. Information about deadlines and assignments was often unclear or inconsistent, and I was even given handbooks containing outdated dates. When I asked for clarification, I was often simply directed back to the handbook, even when the information was confusing or incorrect.
The course itself also felt, from my experience, to be primarily focused on financial gain. Whether a student actually succeeded or not seemed almost irrelevant. In both cases, I feel that students could leave with very little essentially just a certificate which was formally valid but, in terms of practical experience and real-world value, was almost worthless.
After paying approximately £18,000 in tuition fees over two years, I feel that I lost a significant amount of time, money and, most importantly, the opportunity to complete my education.
I also became concerned that negative feedback was not genuinely welcomed and that protecting the university’s public image seemed more important than openly addressing students’ problems.
Based on my personal experience, I would not recommend this university to anyone looking for proper support, clear communication, practical experience and a fair opportunity to successfully complete their studies.
