Exposed wiring, filthy floors, and €1,335 charged for an apartment nobody could sleep in
Avoid. I booked Le Penthouse Picardie (22 rue de Picardie, Paris 3e), managed by The French Concierge, through Booking.com for my parents, both 71, for five nights in October 2026.
What they walked into: exposed electrical wiring and crumbling plaster above a doorway, floors that had not been cleaned (dust and shoe prints), a dirty staircase, flaking paint on the bathroom floor, a damaged kitchen worktop and no toilet paper. That was the apartment on arrival.
I sent the manager the photos and the full list the same afternoon. Their answer: take it up with Booking.com. No cleaner, no repair, no other apartment. I paid €1,335.45 for the stay. They refused to waive the cancellation fee and kept €650 of it, for an apartment my parents could not safely stay in. They left that evening and paid for a hotel.
A manager who is shown exposed wiring and replies "contact Booking.com" should not be trusted with your family. Book anything else.
I have the photos, the timestamps and the full message history.
