Completely inhumane and possibly…
Completely inhumane and possibly illegal conduct – shameful.
A female friend of mine, who suffers from anorexia and moves with the aid of crutches, went to Eliel intending to eat and ordered a beer. While looking through the menu, she ultimately decided not to eat. She attempted to pay for her drink using her phone via a banking app, but the payment failed due to a technical issue (most likely OP Bank) – as sometimes happens.
The restaurant owner confiscated this frail and ill person’s phone as collateral. A phone – her only connection to social services, healthcare, and safety.
This was not some accidentally forgotten payment, but a clear case in which the customer tried to pay but could not. Nevertheless, her personal property was taken from her.
An individual has no legal right to confiscate another person’s property – not even in a situation where payment is delayed. This can even be likened to unlawful threat or vigilantism.
The phone was only returned the next day, when I personally paid the bill on her behalf. Think about it: if my friend had suffered, for example, an epileptic seizure or a psychological breakdown without her phone – who would have been responsible?
Such unethical, inhumane, and possibly illegal behavior cannot be ignored.
If humanity, equality, social responsibility, or a sense of justice mean anything to you – avoid this place entirely. Absolutely not.
