I was genuinely scared of what my housing experience would have been in New York.
I had heard some really terrible stories about finding a home in the city and so I approached Roomrs with a bit of a "too good to be true" attitude.
However, my experience with Roomrs has been nothing short of great. The whole application and leasing process has gone extremely swiftly and the room looked pretty much as it looked in the photos. Actually, I found a desk and chair in my room which were not in the photos, so that was a nice surprise.
The roommates as well are all very nice so I can't help but recommend Roomrs to others.

I lived at Roomrs for a period and had a great experience. The apartment was clean, well-maintained, and in a great location. The people I lived with were really nice, and the overall atmosphere was welcoming. The team was also very responsive and helpful whenever needed. It’s a great option for young professionals or students looking for a hassle-free and flexible living arrangement in New York. I highly recommend it! 😊

Avoid Roomrs at all costs. There is a reason that they do not allow in-person viewings - the apartments are disgusting and unhygienic. The pictures are taken by a professional photographer with a wide lens when the apartment is brand new and clean. THE APARTMENTS DO NOT LOOK LIKE THE PHOTOS.

The lease forces you to accept the apartment “as is” without ever seeing it in person. Don’t do it. Just don’t.

Roomrs do not care about hygiene or maintenance. The apartment was unbelievably filthy. Also beware of the doors, some of them are translucent, and none of them lock (in any of the apartments), leaving you with zero privacy or security.

When things go wrong (and they will), there’s a phone line—but there is no one on the other side. It’s just an automated message telling you to email them. Spoiler: they don’t respond to emails either.

The whole process seems smooth until you sign the lease and pay two months’ rent. Once it’s time to move in, communication stops, and they couldn’t care less about you.

Speaking of your money - don't expect to get your deposit back anytime soon. Roomrs has zero respect for the financial commitments they make to tenants.

Let this be your warning fellow renters, steer clear.

I was in a roomrs aptm for a year. There were issues with the house all year round:
-black mold in the bathroom, my roomates literally felt stuffy cus of it. Reported to roomrs various times, ignored
-diswasher never worked
-building's washer and dryer never worked properly either, everyone had to go to the laundromat
-in the summer the AC didnt work from 2pm to 11pm every single day. We couldnt cook cus it would get so hot you felt dizzy
-in the spring and summer: ants in the kitchen, centepides all over the flat and roaches in all the rooms. It was actually funny cus now and again you would wake up in the middle of the night to someone screaming from a roach in their bed

All this problems were reported to roomrs by all of the roomates at least once. Roomrs completely ignored or gaslit us. The number they list as "emergency support" is just a recorded invoice that says that if u have an emergency call 911 lmao

I literally dont know anyone in nyc thats happy with roomrs. I heard tho that they offer $100 dollars if u leave a positive review here, so that explains all this asslickers :)

I was struggling to find a place in NY especially because I only needed a 3-month lease. Friends suggested roomrs and my experience with the team was seamless. My apartment is great, comfortable and has all the amenities I need. Would definitely recommend!

Roomrs was genuinely amazing!! The apartment was incredibly well located, had an easy commute, and was SO spacious. The leasing team is also fantastic, can’t recommend them enough!!

Roomrs has been absolutely wonderful. Their staff are top notch, their sales representatives are highly accommodating and provide great customer support, and their rooms are really nice and good quality. For a service that is focused on sub-leasing, I was very skeptical at first hearing so many bad horror stories when I moved to NYC about living with roommates, but Roomrs makes the process so seamless and effortless without unnecessary fees or broker costs. I was living in East Harlem and had a three bedroom apartment all by myself for several months, and now I live in the heart of SoHo for a sublease that is well below market rate and that includes modern appliances, a dishwasher, and a washer/dryer in-unit. The apartments vary in sizing, so I would say the only disadvantage is the inability to actually view the apartments. The virtual showings and website provide a really good UI/UX, but nothing beats seeing an apartment in person. Overall, I highly recommend and thank my first broker in NYC for the introduction to Roomrs.

I had a great experience with roomrs! I lived in one of their apartments in NYC (Chinatown) for three months and my room (incl. private bathroom) was spacious and very beautiful - exactly as shown in the 3D tour on their website. Their service was excellent, all issues (broken chair and lamp) were quickly taken care of. My roommates and the neighborhood were amazing too! It was a bit noisy at night, but I guess that's to be expected in Manhattan. I really had a great time and would recommend it to my friends!

It was a very good experience. I use Roomrs for one year, very user-friendly experience. It includes utilities and everything you need. Good stuff!

Had funds to move, was going to apply for a room in NY coming from west coast. Had a second tour with Zack virtually. Sadly my connection while discussing the room on my laptop was bad. So I switched to the Zoom on my phone where I had a strong connection. Halfway through, Zack ended the call and I didn't hear back from him. I even sent another follow up email and received no response. If you want unprofessional service before and during the place you're going to live, go for Roomrs. However I'm going to keep looking because Roomrs has done nothing but waste my time, especially with high pressure sales tactics.

I would be wary of any 5 star reviews. I left my lease after 2 months because Roomrs did not provide what I was sold on. I experienced:
-Hair in the bedding, handprints on walls, & cobwebs in my room when I arrived.
-Junk filling up the common space and kitchen from old tenants. The furniture is stained, shabby, and dirty.
-Black mold in the bathroom.
-I was not allowed to store my bike in the stairwell, which was promised by the sales rep Mikey when I was first interested in Roomrs. He called to harass me when I brought it up with Support.
-No working AC for 3.5 weeks.
-No attempt by Support to recover a stolen package.
-They come up with "policies" never outline to get you to pay extra.
-Slow, unhelpful Support who you have to beg to resolve issues. They hold themselves to no accountability.

Horrible experience with this company lacking integrity.

My experience with roomors was very satisfactory. I think the main thing is how convenient it is because they provide bed sheets, towels, and all kinds of kitchen utensils and cleaning supplies. The support service is excellent and I have already recommended Roomors to my friends.

Seamless move in experience. Completely furnished, with all amenities provided. Maintenance is quick with responses, usually 1-2 business days. Cleaning service is very nice too. Overall very pleasant experience with Roomrs!

I would never rent from Roomrs again. The apartment I am living in is infested with mice. The other tenants told me there were problems with mice before I moved in yet Roomrs still rented the room to me instead of fixing the issue first. Despite making three separate reports to Roomrs after seeing three different mice since I moved in, no pest control or extermination has been carried out. The building's super (who is not employed by Roomrs) came once, promised to return and carry out repair works and hasn't been seen since. The support staff are unhelpful and unwilling to resolve issues in an effective or timely manner. Roomrs fails in its obligations as a landlord to keep the property free of pests. I would not recommend renting from Roomrs. It also offers tenants $100 for five-star reviews so be wary of positive reviews.

I moved to New York, and choosing Roomrs was the best decision I made to find a room in Manhattan! From the beginning, they helped me find the perfect option for my needs. The process was quick, and I had no issues at all. The apartment is well-equipped, and it's great that you can easily reach out to them whenever you need. I love my neighborhood; East Harlem is a fantastic area to live in with plenty of places to explore and easy access to the subway!
