This standard requires that the tested window WILL PASS BUILDING REGULATIONS, my Residence 9 window WILL NOT , but are still a KITEMARKED PRODUCT.

I can confirm that we hold a Kitemark license for our Residence Products, we have tested and passed both PAS24 and BS6375-1/2. All our fabricators have access to our test reports which they are able to provide the details to their installers.
My installation of of 21 windows and two double door sets and side lights, were ordered in june 2018 the fourth set of both double doors were not fitted till october when made, the job cannot be signed off as it will not meet building control, FAKE safety calculations have been issued by Residence 9 / U70 to over come this. What is required ALL windows need replacing and made to the agreed advertised standard, the same standard that was tested to get to the KITEMARK standard. Residence Collection REFUSE to enforce THEIR STANDARDS, This is the standard we all paid such a HIGH PRICE TO PURCHASE. I believe this review is current until my job is complete.
British Standards Institute have yet to take action, on the possible MISUSE of the KITEMARK STANDARD

It does not do what it says on the tin. It very clearly looks like plastic on the inside and the detailed chamfering just doesn’t sit flush and there’s loads of awkward joins. The white frame doesn’t sit flush in the joins and we had to get the manufacturers out to replace and fix £40,000 worth of windows bar 3.
Even after replacement and fixings they still just look plastic with lots of gaps for grime to get in to. I’m so utterly disappointed with these windows and the cost!!
The manufacturers have made them look as good as they’re going to get and they have improved them but still, the windows are my one huge regret of this particular refurb project. It’s not the manufacturers fault that the actual product is great in theory but the reality is far from what they are selling.
If you’re going for sash windows... beware. The top and bottom pieces of plastic which create your horizontal lines we’re so far out that some windows had to be replaced all together.
I wish I had gone for VEKA windows which have less detail on the inside but when mechanically jointed, fit together flush and they do look just like wood from the inside and outside. You can get them in the paiswick grey AND they are significantly cheaper AND are conservation friendly!! I had them on another project but this one was a bigger budget.
I thought R9 were the best on the market. They claim to be but the real product is poor and isn’t value for money.
It’s also worth noting that I contacted R9a month or so ago and I have had zero response.

Very pleased with the quality of our Residence9 Windows. A very nice system with triple glazing, we chose the Residence 9 with square beads in Eclectic Grey.

I guess that like many people we fell for the glossy marketing, which promotes the R9 brand as being an innovative market leading product. Unfortunately our experience was anything but positive. Having researched the product we contracted a local approved Residence Collection installer to fit four windows to the front of our property. The windows which were initially installed were manufactured by an R9 approved manufacturer who was based in Stoke. The windows supplied were of such an inferior quality that the installer agreed to replace all of the windows.

The replacement windows were fabricated by an approved manufacture who is based in Lincolnshire. The replacement windows were far worse than the first. Damage was evident to most of the casement units, which was obviously caused during fabrication. Many of casement units were misaligned, some did not close properly. All of the astragal bar was loose and in some instance fell from the glass. The problems were so numerous that it was necessary to halt the installation. We insisted that Window Widgets (Residence 9) carry out a quality inspection on the installed windows, which they duly did.

We subsequently contracted a new installer and manufacturer, who we believe is the largest manufacturer of Residence 9 collection in the UK and who were recommended by R9 themselves to fit windows to the rear of our premises. Within 10 weeks of the installation all 11 glass units failed, having fogging within the sealed unit. We now have faulty windows on front and back of the property, which have been produced by three manufacturers. It is worth noting that Residence 9 do not wish to take any ownership of the ongoing problems and have made no effort to assist us with this situation. This cannot just back luck. We are of the opinion that the product and the manufacturers are substandard.

I would therefore recommend that you do not choose R9, it is obvious that the world is not ready for this product and they need to address and take some ownership of the failures with the manufacturing processes. In summary this has been the worst imaginable buying experience and is an ongoing nightmare!!

We made a bad mistake taking out a cottage style timber bay window and replacing it with R9 windows. Because of the thickness of the frame and the material around the glass panes (8 panes per window - 4 windows for the total bay) we lost a staggering 30% of the glass area. This reduced the light coming in and reduced the view out to our garden with the heavy pillars bewtween the window sections. They seem well engineered and secure but look awful. This did not show up when we looked at the sales brochure.

Short story - the windows look pretty good, which they should do, considering the cost, but there are a number of issues with them, and I have yet to find out how draughtproof they are. The customer service leaves much to be desired. My contract was actually with the company who did the ordering and installing, but almost all of my complaints are with Residence 9 and the company who manufacture the windows for them.

Long story - when the original fitters left, some of the windows were too stiff to open easily, and some would not slide properly to allow cleaning of the outside. Other problems were the decorative georgian bars being wobbly and loose, and even slipping out of position in one instance, and panes of glass in french doors being fitted upside down so the bars on them did not line up with the adjacent windows. Added to this, they had run out of right hand window handles in the style I wanted, so the windows came with different handles on those windows. They also supplied the wrong style of handle for the french doors.

So, visit 1 from the Residence 9 manufacturing company was to fit the correct handles once they were in stock, turn the french door glazing the other way up, and refix any loose bars. In addition, they were supposed to check all the windows slid properly.
After the visit (I should have checked before they left), I found that the temporary window handles had been bigger than the correct ones, leaving marks on the window frames, many of the windows were still too stiff, and the replaced french door handles were still wrong - they were now the correct shape, but the wrong colour.
Visit 2 - this time a man from the fitting company came as well, and adjusted some of the windows and applied a little silicone spray in places - they said they will make this part of their procedure in future. The manufacturer's chap fitted three new window hinges, but in the process of checking that all the windows now functioned correctly, I noticed lots of small bits of damage to the window frames. Things not visible from a distance, but once you know they're there...
Visit 3 - they sent a man with (finally) the correct door handles, only to find that those handles didn't come with screws long enough for these particular doors. This chap also fixed up most of the dints etc and the marks above the handles. We're getting there.
Visit 4 - someone came with longer screws for the door handles, with the tops painted black to fit in with the colour of the handles.

So, four extra visits, three of them taking 3 or more hours each out of my working day. As it happens, I work at home - had I had to take time off work for these remedial visits, I'd be even more fed up with them.

Now, several weeks later, my window cleaner pointed out that a couple of the bars on the outside were still loose. Pressing these back firmly appeared to work, but I now have little confidence that all the bars will remain stuck. To my mind, any product that has to be checked frequently for this kind of thing is not really fit for purpose.

It wasn't just this lengthy saga that put me off, though. When I first complained, via the fitting company, the answers copied to me basically said that the bars I'd reported as loose had been fitted 'to specification', which was clearly not the case (or if it was, the specification was totally inadequate).

Now this manufacturing company is not Residence 9 itself, but the products they make are sold as Residence 9, so R9 should take more interest in quality control and customer service.

I have yet to see how well the windows stand up to wind, rain and time.
