Poor management and lack of customer service
Honestly used to love this place, however the management team really let this beautiful pub down, particularly the two lady mangers, (both blonde) believe her name is Laura and not to sure on the other lady who wears glasses, both lack basic respect for customers and knowledge.
We came in for Mother’s Day with our baby and small dog, we was also waiting for another 6 people. We went through to the back room in the bar area, we was told it was closed for Mother’s Day and no food was being served in the two rooms, due to it being Mother’s Day. They had plenty off staff on shift and I’m confused as to why they even have a bar area to accommodate for customers if they are turning customers away. We was then told to go into the main bar area. After sitting with menus and retrieving my sons high chair, Laura than told us no food was being served in the bar at all. I’m surprised such a well established business is turning away paying customers. The bar was completely empty, plenty off staff and not enough work being done, lots of staff chatting and huddles. To top it off, members of staff proceeded to eat their food in the bar next to us why we had to leave because we had our dog, my son has sensory issues so this was just a nightmare after settling him, I also believe the restaurant create fake bookings on the system to ensure they do less work.
This is not the only issues I’ve had, my last visit was a complete nightmare.
Eating as a group of 8 or more...
Really dissapointed had a great meal at chimneys ( hooton) about a month ago & thought we would treat the family (8 of us) to a meal 23/03/25 as the meal we had was superb.
Not this time,I had along with 2 more in the group a trio roast dinner,now bear in mind a month previous I ordered the trio roast & it was superb lovely large plate of meats roasties Yorkshire pudding carrot & parsnip + a side dish of 6 mixed veg,absolutely stunning my wife had a completely different dish.so imagine my horror after bigging the roast up to the family that when the 3 trio of roasts arrived there were only 2 side dishes of veg.when I asked where the other dish was i was told "it's 1 dish between 2"
We had to ask twice for tap water for the table.at the end of the meal i asked for the bill & noticed there was a service charge of 10% ( because we had a group of 8 )i challenged this & eventually the 10% was knocked off.i normally don't question a bill i just pay but what a liberty.the meals themselves were excellent & the puddings just as good,but I'm afraid we will be booking elsewhere as I don't like the sneaky 10% being added for groups of 8 or more & i don't like them changing the side dishes.its not clear none of it.we eat out as a family quite alot but we will not be eating at chimneys hooton again as a family.

Don't think about using or buying a voucher, you won't get a refund.
Arrogant company
I reached out to Mitchells and Butlers regarding a parking fine whilst using the car park at one of their Toby Carvery branches in Sheldon/ Birmingham. Not impressed how they literally disregarded everything as it's not their problem.
Unbelievable. They have lost a loyal customer not that it makes one iota of difference to them one way or another.
I am just glad I don't work for them if they treat their employees as dismissive as that.
Wonderful Xmas lunch experience at Meadow Lark, Dudley
My family and I had our Christmas lunch today at Meadow Lark, Dudley.
The food was fantastic and the staff were wonderful.
I can't rate them highly enough.
We all left the pub feeling very happy and satisfied with the way we had been looked after.
Well done to all the staff and a sincere thankyou from my family and I.

Mitchells and Butlers are useless. I have applied for many jobs there and they wouldn't even have the decency to reply me back. They are useless! They look down on the people who have no job for now.

I purchased a gift card from the website and was overcharged. When I contacted Browns, they informed me that their gift cards are outsourced to Mitchells & Butlers. They advised me to reach out to them directly. I contacted Mabgiftcards but received no reply or acknowledgment.
I followed up with Browns again, but they were still unable to help and only said they had forwarded my complaint to Mabgiftcards. Once again, no response or acknowledgment.
I would avoid this service, as if anything goes wrong, no one will take responsibility or show any interest in helping.

ABUSIVE STAFF
This brand just refuses to accept any constructive criticisms and their guest care team Anne, Joanne Emma and Eve never listen or apologise for anything and become extremely abusive if you respond to anything they say.
Second Poor Review …
Second poor review after the appalling response from the “manager”. This individual sent me a response that was extremely rude with no factual basis, asking me to ring to discuss my complaint! They did not even have the common courtesy to put their name to it. Your staff should be very careful how they word responses and make sure that they are correct in what they are saying. The pub was filthy and food cold. As it is virtually impossible to contact Mitchell and Butlers you get nowhere. Do not recommend their brand.

Not able to survive on hardly any hours
Started a bar job in March 2024. On contract it is stated 37.5 hours a week and I was verbally told it was not a zero hours contract. Suddenly I have gone from 28 (never 37.5) hrs per week to 10 then none then 10 over a month how are you supposed to pay your bills what a terrible company
Could not book a table
Wanted to book a table at lunch time for a party of 10. A visit was made to try and do this but was told by the member of staff that this could only be done by the manager and he would ring us back. He did not do this. Contact was made again but still was unable to get a reply.
This is the second time of trying to book a meal at this establishment without success and have had to book at another restaurant in the area
Dont Bother With Gift Vouchers
Got some vouchers to use but for personal reasons I have not been able to use them. They expire very soon so will be totally wasted. Other companies have offered an extension but not this lot of cowboys. Take the money and CYA.....thanks a lot.

Had dinner with friend at Brown's In Shad Thames, London. Absolutely disgusting men's toilets, literally all of them with rather a lot of, yes, brown ones. Rude and unhlpful manager and response to my complaint from general manager while apologetic, was to effectively gaslight me about their incredibly high standards when my photographs showed anything but. Very mediocre food. I've been there before and it's always very hit and miss in terms of the experience. Unlikely to go back and would definitely not recommend this restaurant.

HAD A DECENT CARVERY AT THE BRITANIA INN ON OTTERSPOOL PROM BUJT WAS APPAULED AT THE PRICE OF A CHILDS 1/2 PINT OF WATER WITH BLACK CURRENT CORDIAL (£1.95). I KNOW IT HAS TO BE SERVED AND THE GLASS WASHED BUT YOU NEED TO EXERCISE A MODICOM OF BRITISH VALUE AND DECENCY TO YOUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS
Awful customer service.
Earlier this year I had a deeply unpleasant experience dealing with the customer service team when lodging a food poisoning complaint.
After following their procedure as advised to report the case of suspected food poisoning after eating at The Devon Doorway I was sent an email explaining that I could not have experienced food poisoning as the symptoms experienced were too soon. I experienced symptoms two hours later, however their email stipulated that food poisoning typically takes place 4-6 hours after the initial consumption. I have a receipt of emails to prove this.
The information they provided contradicts the NHS advice page on food poisoning, it can indeed take less time for symptoms to emerge- so I was and still am perplexed why I was sent false information by a team of alleged professionals?
After complaining I had a phone call with a lady called Ann Bach who is a senior member of the team. She admitted on the phone that this was a mistake and that fish can trigger earlier symptoms. Please note that she did not apologise and repeatedly interrupted me during the phone call. After asking why I was sent misinformation she stuttered for a while but could not provide a clear answer.
Overall it was a horrific experience and having not even received an apology for being sent misinformation, I can only describe the person with whom I spoke with as incompetent.
Disappointing Presentation
I am visiting Stoke on Trent and find myself in the Toby Carvery in Hanley. I have ordered the crumble and custard and clearly Mitchell & Butlers have no idea how to present a dessert.
I had a Bakewell Tart and custard recently and the difference in the presentation is stark!!! Mitchell & Butlers take note…
I just wish I could leave a photograph to show how poor it is… but if you care to look at the actual restaurant, I shall leave a review there and be able to show photographs
