We are so disappointed with this company as the item we bought was later discovered to be not only overpriced but a return of an unused item was refused in tragic circumstances.
We purchased a folding wheelchair from the store on a Saturday afternoon to use for my adult daughter who was in hospital. Unexpectedly she passed away on the Tuesday, having never returned home.
The wheelchair had only been taken to our car 200m away from the store, and was kept in the car boot, so was in perfect condition.
We asked at the store about returning the unused wheelchair for a partial refund the week my daughter passed away and were completely refused, being told it is against company policy.
I had been very pleased to be able to try the item out, and purchase from a local store.
However I have since discovered identical chairs online for between 20 and 25% less than I paid for it, with next day delivery of £7, so not only do I feel distressed that the store refused a return of an unused item, I also feel I overpaid.
Although the staff in the store were initially helpful and charming, in light of the after service I feel they were charming so they could make an overpriced sale, and not being able to make an exception to their refund policy at such a distressing time was very uncaring.
In response to the company feedback to my comment, which is suggesting the no returns policy in this very unusual case is justifiable as they claim the item was now “used” , I will repeat that the wheelchair was NEVER used. The item was wheeled (empty) from an indoor store, to a car in an indoor car park. The car park was attached to the same building as the store, and was approximately 200m away. The wheelchair was not taken outdoors.
The wheelchair was then kept in the car boot.
The company comments confirm that they aren’t listening to my feedback and have shown no empathy or compassion for the situation. The people who have benefited from the sale are Lifestyle and Mobility. We have an unused, overpriced wheelchair that is very difficult for us to resell.
I take the point about online pricing, but again the company haven’t listened to what I said. The model I found IS identical to the one I bought and £100 less than the “reduced” price of £430 I paid to Lifestyle and Mobility.( I was only looking at pricing to find a reasonable price to accept if I can sell the wheelchair, and discovered I could have paid a lot less and had it delivered the next day for only £7.) In addition whilst researching wheelchair prices I discovered most companies offer 14 or 30 day (unused) returns policy as standard.
After the loss of my daughter, and taking on the care of her child I am not in a financial position to donate the wheelchair to a charity if it’s possible to get some of the money back, or I wouldn’t have asked at such a difficult time.

Firstly, we would like to express our sincere condolences on the loss of your daughter. We understand this was an extremely difficult time for you and your family.
We are sorry that our decision regarding the wheelchair return added to your distress. However, we would like to clarify some points for the benefit of readers.
The wheelchair was purchased in-store after being viewed and tested, and our returns policy, which is explained at the point of sale, differs from the cancellation rights that apply to online purchases. As an in-store retailer, we are not legally required to accept returns for change of circumstances once a product has left our premises, unless it is faulty.
While we appreciate your view that the wheelchair was never used, the item had left the store and was no longer under our control. For hygiene, safety, and quality assurance reasons, we are unable to resell mobility equipment as new once it has been removed from our premises, regardless of the extent to which it has been used. This policy is applied consistently to all customers.
We are disappointed that you feel the wheelchair was overpriced. Our prices reflect not only the product itself, but also the ability for customers to see, compare, and try equipment in person, receive advice from trained staff, and take products away immediately. Online retailers often operate under a different business model and may offer different pricing structures.
We reject the suggestion that our staff were motivated simply to make a sale. The team's intention was to help you select a suitable wheelchair at a time when you needed one urgently, and we are pleased that you found them helpful during your visit.
While we understand and respect your disappointment with our decision, it was made in accordance with our established policy rather than a lack of compassion for your circumstances. We are genuinely sorry that the outcome was not the one you hoped for, and we extend our condolences to you and your family once again.

The L&M store Harlowpeople in the L&M store in Harlow…
The people in the L&M store in Harlow could not have been more helpful. They showed me how to fold and unfold the scooter and let me ride it up and down the store. They compared it to other scooters within their establishment and they even made me a cup of coffee! If you’re looking to buy a scooter or wheelchair I’d recommend your going to their store inside the Harvey centre. The staff are friendly and really helpful. Can’t recommend them all highly enough!

Excellent customer service
An error was made during the purchase process but was immediately resolved by the company. The tyres on my scooter were to be changed and this was carried out by an engineer called Kem. Kem serviced my previous scooter 3 times and carried out the work needed today on the new one.
He is unfailingly cheerful, helpful, polite and very respectful.
I am very happy with the company, their policies and customer service. So much so that I did not look elsewhere when I wanted to change scooters.
I shall stay with Lifestyle and Mobility.

Purchase at Nuneaton store
Bought a riser recliner recently and found the service first class. Nothing was too much of a problem For Andy and Lee, and a couple of weeks later my wife went into the store in Nuneaton with a query about something and not only did they remember her they also helped with the item required. Top marks from me.

Fantastic from start to finish
I am writing on behalf of Ann Gower. We had Simon Boon deal with us from start to finish. He was very professional and very through with Anns purchase of a made to measure quickie wheelchair and power add on. He visited us at home in the west West Midlands with all demo items and ensured all was perfect and to her style (colour etc). Ann did purchase an extra battery as well for piece of mind. Simon trained Ann well and Ann is loving the new freedom her chair and add on is giving her. Dont worry she wont be in the daily mail being chased by police lol.
Simon even was great on afterservice answering any calls she needed and also providing safety info required for our future holiday abroad.

Absolutely superb service from Richard Chiasaro and the team at lifestyle and mobility! My needs are a bit complex, but they staff at Lifestyle and Mobility have really pulled out the stops to make sure I got what I needed. In all honesty, my needs are probably more complex that even I realised, but Richard was able to identify precisely what I needed, and how to set it up… a true expert and a really decent guy who is exceptionally easy to get on with and relate to!
