Avoid. Rip-off warning.

Avoid using this company especially if you are importing the product. My Knife cost around $120 and was lost by Fedex here in the UK. Hocho knife would not issue a replacement knife, refunded me a measly $60 stating that the knife was only covered for that amount. So as a previous customer, I have no knife and am $60 out of pocket. Hocho knife do not see anything wrong with that situation. Don't trust that your product will arrive, just buy from a more trusted supplier.
Having read Hocho's reply, I rest my case. Check out other trustpilot reviews, Steer clear of Hocho.

Perfect store and knives!

I purchased four Iseya I-Series 33-layer knives, and I'm extremely happy!

The delivery was very fast; it took only a few days to reach London from Japan. I was impressed by the packaging: each knife blade was wrapped in a cover, the tips were covered with plastic caps, and the entire metal parts were protected by an additional layer of paper. Every knife box was placed in bubble wrap, and the empty space inside the larger box was filled with air pillows.

The knives themselves are perfect! I can't find words to describe how amazing they are. I often cook at home, and every time I use these knives to cut something, I smile like a happy child. It's like I've gone from driving an old car with a manual gearbox to a Tesla.

Thank you so much for the excellent service and the outstanding knives.

You pay good money even for non-perfect items

My order started immediately with problems related to one of the items not available. I picked another one and proceeded.
Upon receiving the parcel (5 knives and set of grinding stones), one of the knives (Shigeki Tanaka Aogami No.2 Damascus EB Japanese Chef's Gyuto Knife 210mm with Ebony Handle) had some clear and evident defective marks / smudges. I sent all the pictures that they required, including entire packaging (which I must admit was perfect) and I was replied "Scratches and dents from forging are not any subject of claim, so please do not buy if you are concerned about them. Because in order to enjoy the traditional techniques from ancient times, the scratches and dents from forging are left as they are. Enjoy the rustic, wild, traditional style as it is."
I could have proceeded with return, but all the costs (don't forget customs) would have been at my charge and I could have faced their penalty terms (which I suggest to read and understand well). All I can say is that I was lucky that 4 out of 5 knives were perfect. My review is simply to warn, once again, to read well their terms and go ahead only if you accept to pay in full even for items which are clearly not perfect.

Purchased a 165mm left handed deba…

Purchased a 165mm left handed deba knife from them. Upon receiving the knife it was found to be warped. This warp makes the knife unusable as you can never sharpen or maintain it correctly. All single bevel knives must have a perfectly flat back to sharpen the blade. The warp prevents this. They not only refuse to do anything about it, but state that's how the knife should be. They also use the excuse that because I washed the packing oil off (prevents blade from rusting) the knife is considered used. Knife was never used, hasn't cut anything. How do you inspect a blade covered in oil? Customer service seems to be doing everything possible to keep from fixing the issue. I would not recommend buying from here. At this point the knife is a several hundred dollar paperweight.

Horrible experience

Horrible experience. beware. Hocho knife has a very distorted understanding of customer service. I placed an order for 2 knives and they contacted me 2 days later to tell me one of them was not in stock...no problem there. However, when I tried to get a refund they had the audacity to charge me a 20% cancellation fee ?! even when the mistake was clearly on their end (showing a knife in stock when it wasn't). I have to do a chargeback now. Do not bother with them.

Terrible customer service!!

Fast shipping. Got 7 knives as a set, but one knife had about 7 deep 4mm scratches on the center of the blade, on one side. They offered me $5 on a $100 knife. Even when I offered to pay shipping to replace it, they said “that’s a normal part of the hand making process (to be all scratched up)”, and still offered $5. I told them to keep the $5! If you receive anything damaged, you are obviously on your own unless you want to fly to Japan and confront them in person. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THESE PEOPLE!! They don’t stand by their products and there is no quality control.

It is a gamble

It is a gamble. Read the fine prints on replacement or return - “penalty” involved!- before placing order. Also read the replies to the negative reviews, they will give you a good sense of whom you are dealing with.

You may get a great product (seems most of the time), but if not, well, your loss unless you want to risk spending more- and why would you?!

For expensive mail-order items, like most companies, you expect a simple return slip for free shipment of the unused, unwanted product (whatever the reason), and full refund. Not gonna happen!!

So if you really want to take your chances, go ahead and order. Great collection. The processing and shipment is very efficient and fast, so is repudiation of any objections you might have …

Bad customer services

Bad customer services, I purchased 2 knifes and issue return the day after the delivery ,then I when their website issued return, there was no return lable. I email customer service for return lable so I can sent them back with store credit. They said “i am afraid,you need to return within 7days after the delivery “witch I am return on the 2 second day after the delivery. I don’t mind to pay for the shipping and It been 10days still not sent me the address or shipping label for return yet.

They never contact me

So far my experience has been negative.
I have placed an order and emailed them about some issue in regards it. No one answers my emails. There’s not a phone number that we can call.

Send damage items refuse to refund or exchange

DO NOT BUY FROM THEM, they sent damaged items and despite contacting them at the exact time of reception from DHL they did not want to exchange or provide a refund. 1000 USD lost because they did not pack properly... their offer ? 100 USD (10%) do no trust this website.

Great experience, don’t be discouraged from purchasing with them

Hey so I felt like I should write a solid review for this company based off some of the concerning reviews from others. While I can’t attest to what they experienced I can say my experience was great and that those other reviews shouldn’t deter you. So I’d been looking for a great starter carbon steel knife and the subreddit r/chefknives really helped me out. They recommended the Fujiwara Kanefusa gyuto. This is a SK-4 steel knife and so far seems amazing. But the other sights I was directed to cost so much more than Hocho knife’s. So I checked for reviews and got worried but said screw it. So I was very pleasantly surprised when I got the knife in like 2-3 days paying for the highest FedEx shipping which wasn’t much more than the regular shipping.

Also I’m not sure if they do this all the time but I noticed at the top of the sight there is a “sale” code which they just seemed to change and extend the date once the time frame elapsed. But still got me couple bucks off the already lower price than competitors. They also shipped a coupon code for 10 bucks off my next order with the knife. Not sure if they do this all the time or not but hey nice. I would share the code because it seems quite generic but I don’t want it to actually be a one time redeemable code and screw myself. Because I definitely will be ordering from them again!

Totally not the case, I haven’t received a fake, but a quality Japanese knife.

Worst buying experience, 0 customer service

Worst buying experience I’ve ever had.

I actually got a Santuko knife from my wife for a birthday gift. Really nice knife; I just never reach for a 7” Santuko and would prefer the 8.3” Gyuto. So after inspecting the package (there was nothing regarding its return policy), I reach out to exchange the knife for a Gyuto 1.5 weeks after I received the gift (apparently 6 days after it was received), and they curtly apologize for not being able to accept an exchange. Once again, this was 2.5 weeks after receiving the knife, never using it and merely wanting to exchange it for a knife of a similar value. I even offered to pay all of the shipping and they refused to do anything and instead offered me a $10 coupon if I spent more than $200 on my next purchase. Like what is the difference to them? If you are buying a $200 knife, you probably are discerning about the knives you own. Dealing with them has been nothing but awful.

Also note this is the first time I’ve ever posted a negative review. EVER!

Do not buy from this store!!

Do not buy from this store!!! They sell defective knives. I received a knife with a rust spot and ragged edges. Due to their advertisement and 100% guarantee, I sent them an email, which they replied saying that the rust spot was due to the manufacturing process and that for the price I paid, the quality may not be the best, which it’s not said anywhere. This is FALSE ADVERTISEMENT! Their solution was to give me $10 as store credit, instead of resolving my problem. Why would I want to buy another defective knife? They should have a quality control department and better customer service because if they continue doing business like this, they’ll keep losing valued customers. The customer should never be responsible for a defective product.
