Harris and Wood did a fantastic job at marketing and selling our property, garnering a huge amount of interest and selling for £8,000 more than a previous estate agent had sold it at. They were also very clear during this process and made us feel our property was what we thought it was, rather than underselling.

We then had Sophie who was super helpful in pushing things forward, easily contactable and kept us in the loop throughout.

Unfortunately, our house buying process was affected negatively by those above us in the chain. We appreciated that Harris and Wood continually supported in moving it forward and did everything they could to keep the move alive.

The only reason it is not five stars is threefold: 1. We were told our buyers were cash buyers, which later turned out not to be true and that they relied upon someone buying their property, which affected the chain for a period
2. They told our buyers we wanted to move as quickly as possible, when we actually had communicated things were moving very slowly above us in the chain so there was no rush
3. When the pressure was on because the chain may fall apart, we were repeatedly asked if we would break the chain (eg move out of our homes and find somewhere else to live). I continually said this was not an option, please don’t ask again, but they still pushed it and we felt genuine pressure to move out of our home when we had no options to do so.

Overall, these were relatively minor things and we definitely would use them again for the overall experience. I believe they would’ve got everything tied up quickly, and with all parties happy, had they been in control of the whole chain.

We initially chose Harris and Wood not only because of the comprehensive service they offered but also for the enthusiasm and positive attitude of Ash, who was our first contact with the company. Our flat was sold quickly, but due to problems caused by the buyer's inefficient solicitor we endured months of frustration before completion. This was only made bearable by the hard work of our progressor, Maddie who persisted inn her efforts to overcome the various problems we faced and was invariably cheerful in spite of our endless phone calls. We would be happy to recommend Harris and Wood !

We are currently renting a property through Harris & Wood in Eight Ash Green, Colchester.

After selling our beloved house after 25 happy years, we decided to rent a property until we discovered what we wanted the next chapter of our exciting journey in life to be. 

We sourced a property through Harris & Wood and let them know that this was our first time. From the start they were very helpful and helped us through every stage of the many hurdles that are need to be completed before you can be considered for tenancy. 

After we had been at the property a few months there were some issues occurring with the boiler and pest control (were surronded by farm fields!). When I contacted Harris & Wood to advise them of said issues we were informed that we had a new Client Account Manager - Roman Thomas.

From the very start Roman took the customer service already being provided to a whole new level of satisfaction.  He immediately took ownership of the issues and provided clear and precise communication and updates that gave us a very clear indication how and when the issues would be resolved.

Moving forward I would not hesitate to contact Roman if we had any issues with the property, having the confidence that he would do his utmost to ensure that all would be resolved in both a timely and satisfactory manner.

When I wanted to sell my flat this agency was recommended to me by a former estate agent. Initial contact with them was great. I saw Lewis and he was amazing.
As viewings proceeded I was just asked to drop the price, drop the price, drop the price. Not sure why they do valuations really.
My issues with them started after I had found a buyer. I was assured they had everything in place, mortgage in principle etc. As the sale progresses they contact me to tell me my buyer has changed their mortgage provider who had devalued my flat. Apparently there is some new rule that has JUST come into play about parking spaces and it means my flat is worth £10k less than the buyer was originally paying. They fully explained what had happened. I was so upset. I understood what they were saying but I still couldn't believe it. I had revealed something to them about my situation that I believe was revealed to my buyer and that's how this situation came about. I cannot prove it at this moment in time, it's something Im looking into.
But I have SERIOUS concerns about this agency and confidentiality. Its something im looking into and hope to take it further if I can.
Please please pleaae avoid using Harris & Wood AT ALL COSTS.

From our very first viewing right through to exchange, Sophie has been professional, approachable, proactive and genuinely invested in helping us achieve our dream move. Communication was excellent throughout, and whenever challenges arose, Sophie was always on hand to provide updates, reassurance and practical support.

What stood out most was how much she genuinely cared. During the final stages of the transaction, when stress levels were high and there were delays outside of anyone's control, Sophie continued to chase, escalate and keep everyone informed. We always felt she was firmly in our corner and doing everything she could to help.

Buying a house can be an emotional and stressful experience, but Sophie and her team made a huge difference. Their professionalism, kindness and dedication never went unnoticed.

Liars!! These clowns left me and my partner and 2 dogs homeless because of their lies.. we signed contracts last Friday ready to collect the keys, told me the landlord have confirmed this moving in date (to which I have this in writing on WhatsApp from Kane) turns out, the land lord had no idea of this what so ever and he was told we were moving in in mid June… the lies didn’t stop there… I have every bit of evidence time lined and thankfully are in contact with the landlord who was also lied to several times.
We paid the deposit and month in advance last Friday but didn’t actually sign the correct contract until Monday (possible against the new act that was introduced this year) I’ll have that looked into.. long and the short of it is, we were left with costs of nearing £2000 for van hire, dog boarding and our own temporary accommodation, not to mention the time spent and stress having to deal with all this because of the lies from mainly Kane but closely followed by Megan who I believe was trying to cover up Kanes lies…

This is totally disgraceful and despite e-mails to the Colchester branch manager Conner, I have heard NOTHING from him or anyone from the company … not even so much as an apology….
We are now in the house which gives me the time to get all this evidence and chain of events to my solicitor…

We would never recommend these people and are just grateful that they do not manager the property we are renting so never have to deal with them again

Having had a truly awful experience with another lettings agent I was extremely nervous about continuing being a landlord, however I called in to Harris and Wood after being advised to contact them by a contractor who was working on one of our properties.
Megan Power took the time to talk me through the whole process and how Harris and Wood could help us going forward. She made everything very clear and put me at ease. She found us a tenant within a short space of time and so far everything is going very well. We will be transferring our other two properties over to Harris and Wood as soon as possible.
We are fairly new as landlords and still have a lot to learn. I feel confident that I can call Megan when I have a query or a concern about anything to do with lettings, she is always very quick to respond.
I also like the fact that all aspects of the lettings service are within the same premises, rather than our previous agent who had different offices dealing with different 'services' who didn't seem to communicate with each other.
I hope this is the start of a long and productive relationship with Harris and Wood, thank you to Megan for being so patient with me and for renewing our confidence in our future as landlords.

Unfair and inappropriate

Cancelled a viewing on the grounds a house was sold without telling us. Girlfriend took time off work to view, parents travelled an hour to view.

When ringing up to complain fobbed off with garbage about 'the system' not being able to be changed.

If a company screws up - its forgivable - until the company doesn't own the mistake and tries to pass the buck on to the people who booked the viewing or this 'mysterious' system that doesn't allow you to change any details or carry out efficient business.

Its a shame there's a shortage of other estate age.... oh wait.

Moving is stressful at the best of times, but Megan made the whole process seamless from start to finish, including on her annual leave! Thanks again.

Just sold my flat through Harrison and Wood, excellent service throughout despite some difficulties with leasehold etc, all staff were helpful and efficient but Naomi Barlow stands out as being efficient, effective, professional but friendly and she got the sale over the line with her clear-headed approach and determination. She often called to update me outside her working hours too.

Connor has been brilliant. He has been helpful, respectful and always responds in a timely manner.

Indeed Megan Power got the real power indeed. She is just super best in followup and chasing you up for your accomodation contract to ensure you move in early and have a smooth contract signing. I got my place and it's beautiful and close to the town centre.
