unbelievable incompetence – avoid

I visited Formula 1 Auto Centre in Welwyn Garden City to book front brake pads supplied and fitted. A very straightforward request — or so you would think.

I gave them my registration and then stood there while staff tapped away at the computer for a good 10 minutes. Another person came over… more tapping… still no progress. I politely asked what the issue was. I’ve had parts ordered countless times from places like Halfords, Toyota dealers, and independent garages — you give the reg, and it comes up instantly. Never been a problem.

Instead of sorting it out, the attitude I received was frankly diabolical. I was met with moaning about not being able to find my registration and an insinuation that the issue was somehow my fault or that my vehicle wasn’t properly registered. Completely unacceptable.

To make matters worse, I was then told they “haven’t got a ramp” suitable for my vehicle — which is simply bizarre. It’s a standard SUV, no different in size to many vehicles they routinely service. I have even had work done there before, so I know full well it fits on their ramps.

The whole experience came across as staff not knowing what they were doing and then attempting to deflect the blame onto the customer. Poor systems can happen — but poor attitude and dismissive behaviour are a choice.

Very disappointing and thoroughly unprofessional. I will be taking my business elsewhere

I have ordered tyres through a third party and firstly they pretended they were not the placed booked for fitting them and after that the centre in St Albans sold them and the one in Welwyn refused saying that they could not care less if I would make a complain or not. The gentleman was asking why I have not bought the tyres directly from them, My question for those who make those contracts is why they are agreed if the actual garage does not want to do the work???

Went to Welwyn Garden City centre. Staff were brilliant, really helpful and flexible with the appointment. Great value for money and excellent service.

We needed our car's air conditioning unit sorting out before a trip to France. Formula 1 Welwyn fitted us in at very short notice, checked for leaks and regassed the system - and at a very reasonable price.
Would definitely recommend.

Booked full service but all that happened was that I was sold a new tyre. My engine oil top up light came on the evening before and was still on after the "full" service. So no engine oil put in engine and I doubt the filter was changed. £230 for nothing! Said they could change my spark plugs for extra money but didn't have the right size. Waste of time and money!

THEY TRIED TO SCAM ME!

I took my car in for an MOT last week and straight away the guy who served me seemed on edge. To start things off, he did not seem interested in helping me get served by asking me "you been served?" Sounded like he just woke up.

The MOT is underway and he comes into the waiting room and asks if my coolant was changed. It had been filled up in January, he then proceeded to tell me I had a coolant leak and that it had sprayed everywhere once my fan kicked in. I found this hard to believe as anyone who is blessed with eyesight will be able to see a leak coming out of their car. My car showed 0 signs of leaking before or after this MOT.

After my MOT had finished they told me the result was not good, again hard to believe. They told me they suspect my head gasket had blown. Funny that because you can't drive if that has blown and I have not had one issue driving in my time owning the car, might want to take a mechanics course guys.

I strongly believe they saw me as a young lad with an opportunity to take some serious money from my pockets and I believe this wouldn't be the first time they would try this.

I must make it clear that's only a presumption but the same guy at the end of the MOT told me that the centre has been known to buy cars of people before. RED FLAG!

So to anyone who values being able to feed their kids or make a living, DO NOT GO TO THIS CENTRE.

Michael and the team sorted my windscreen washers out in double quick time. Really efficient, friendly service. Highly recommend.

I had to have my tyres replaced as I was loosing pressure in both rear tyres. Michael was really helpful in identifying the problem and refitting the tyres. The overall experience was good. Michael was polite, knowledgeable and able to offer solutions. He was never pushy and I fel we received a good service.

I had my BMW MOT done at F1 Autocentres in Welwyn Garden City. It was a great experience and great advice on a couple of extra questions I asked. I recommend them.

So happy with the service from the very helpful and friendly staff at Welwyn Garden City. My car was in for MOT and service and I found the whole experience vey satisfactory. As a female I always worry about dealing with garages but on this occasion I was delighted.

Went in for an MOT. The tyres I requested beforehand were not ordered. Twice I was told they had been fitted. Before I took my vehicle back(on day 6) I found out only one had been done & the other had to still be ordered.
Vehicle also failed emissions test on day 1 and was subsequently just left to the side until I took it away.
Absolutely no communication from the centre and even when I phoned it would often go unanswered and twice had phone put down on me.
Eventually took my vehicle back, ran cleaner through the fuel system myself (as I didn't trust they had added it as they said) and took vehicle to another garage which was done before the appointment time and actually called to let me know.
Update 10 Dec 2024: Thanks for the reply @f1autocentres/contact/customer-services, however I consider this matter closed and put behind me. I do not see any point in adding more grief for myself.

Avoid. Waste of time, left ma car twice and never been sorted with some silly excuses. Never again.

Amazing as always. Good customer service. I booked my car for full service and they did the full service and gave me a full detailed report which I am satisfied. As a lady I need a garage like Formula One Autocentre, Welywn Garden City in particular.

The best garage I've ever been to. Tried a few in the area, and this one is 100% great. Good customers service, guys and lovely lady are so polite, helpful. They will always fit you in. Fantastic on pricing. Never need to go anywhere else. Garage for life. ( well as long as I'm driving ) lol

Had a annoying knock rattle they checked the car and replaced both front suspension arms £320 driving home same noise went to another garage who test drove the car then up on the ramp 20min later fixed anti roll bar link £20 they also noticed the cheap stretch CV boot they fitted a week before had 2 holes leaking grease another £97 wasted avold
