Europcar being deceitful!
I know no one cares about this review at the company as there have been multiple people complaining of the same issues. We picked up the car at Paris BVA airport, the person behind the counter was not friendly, handed us the keys, did not go out with us, we looked it over and there was some damage, which we saw and acknowledged. The car however was not very clean, also the gas tank was not filled to capacity. Soon after leaving the airport, we got a low tire indicator even after checking on it repeated, the message kept coming up. When the car was returned we mentioned it to the vendor, as there had been noted damage to one of the tires and then they said we had damaged the front tire on the drives side as well, which is incorrect. The explanation was she rubbed her finger over the tire which showed a white residue and said we damaged the tire because it was new residue which is a new damage. What does that mean? Does it turn white to black in a day, a week, a month? This made no sense at all. They handed us a car that already had a problem and then blamed us. When asked if we could speak with a manager, oh! It’s Friday at 4.30pm so no one to speak to. Do not use this company! Regretfully there is no option for zero stars.
Go for their competitors.
Signed a contract to return the car on a specified day, this car was rented through my car insurance so I wasn't required to pay. I was responsible to pay security deposit which was refunded after 3 days on my returning the car.
A week later I was sent an account for one day rental and was told insurance company only paid for 21 days not the 22 I had signed the contract for. I feel this company is trying a scam because I was never told there had been alterations to my contract didnt know it was legal to alter information without my knowledge.
I have used most car rental companies and this is the only company I feel are scammers.
Try the competition for professional conduct.
Absolute hopeless customer service.
Absolute hopeless customer service.
the van has no oil cap, Oil was coming out under the bonnet. I told them that oil level is just above low.
They did not send out roadside assist for this problem.
Absolute total nonsense and rubbish. Engine could potentially cook due to less oil.
Was even told i would have to pay when the problem wasnt even from me.
We used the Europcar at Manchester car Village - BEWARE OF EXPENSIVE HIDDEN COSTS !!!!!!
We used the Europcar at Manchester car village after booking online.
We arrived at the chaos of the service desk after a 22 hr flight from Australia to have to wait an hour to be served.
We was offered different options at the desk ……..if we needed additional options we would have ordered them online.
My husband didn’t notice a premium insurance package was circled as he was asked the question and advised the operative that we was NOT interested as the option would be more than the hire of the car!
On arrival back home to Australia from the UK we noticed that the insurance had been deducted from our account.
We contacted Europcar to be told we was not entitled to a refund as we had signed.
I can understand as we did sign but , after a lengthy flight and a long wait and after my husband advising the operator that we was not interested !- we are just curious to know how many people have been caught in the same situation?
Is this error a regular occurrence?
What was Europcars response when advised of the issue?
Note to all customers be EXTREMELY careful when hiring vehicles from this company!!!!!! We will definitely NOT be using this company again!!!!
After reading a lot of the reviews on here ……it is a copy and paste response from Europcar how the hell is this company not being investigated for blaintantly misleading their customers !!!!….infuriating
DO NOT USE EUROPCAR
No surprise to see this company with a crap rating. They help themselves to your money. I took car back 10 minutes late - as a regular customer- in Friday afternoon traffic- and they charge me a WHOLE days extra! And then wouldnt let me take car for that day. Pigs
DO NOT USE EUROPCAR they will slug you…
DO NOT USE EUROPCAR they will slug you with a fuel cost for nothing just because they can , I filled a vehicle with fuel 3 KMs from drop off and they slugged me $65 saying if required 10 litres of fuel @ $6.50 / litre . I emailed all evidence which actually proved there was more fuel in the vehicle when I return than when I picked up . simply filled litres Vs Kms travelled Vs consumption/100Kms . NEVER AGAIN .
Terrible experience at Newquay
Terrible experience. Poor/grubby vehicle and hard sell for an upgrade and other things I didn't need at pickup. All for a premium price. I contacted customer service and have been given the runaround with no resolution. Very disappointing.
I was overcharged by $333
I was overcharged by $333. I have tried submitting a refund enquiry online and the emails are not attached. Phoned the mobile provided for customer service and they were just unhelpful and did not refund.
Misleading and dishonest
I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Europcar. I was charged around £370 for insurance that I genuinely was not made aware of properly at the time of hire. The whole process felt misleading and unclear, and despite raising a complaint, the response was dismissive and unhelpful.
The complaints procedure was slow, poorly handled, and showed very little interest in resolving the issue fairly. As a customer, I felt completely ignored and taken advantage of.
I would strongly advise anyone hiring through Europcar to carefully check every single charge and document before signing anything, as my experience has been extremely stressful and expensive.
Very poor customer service and an even worse complaints experience.
If I could give a minus rating I would…
If I could give a minus rating I would in a heartbeat.
Our family uses car hire regularly and decided to use Europcar this time.
What a disappointing experience that was.
We booked the car online which was relatively hassle free from Newcastle airport but when we went to collect we were informed that we could not use our Linkt toll account and if we did, we would also be charged by Europcar.. we came home and called customer service as no where is this stated on their policy and after a heated exchange, this was waivered.
We were also pressured to take an upgrade and after politely refusing numerous times which we feel was not being listened to, once again we needed to become quite stern in our decision to decline this. We hire cars for travel often enough to understand what we do and don’t need.
On return of the vehicle we were also informed that our deposit will take 21 days to be refunded. When we checked the website it states 3-10 working days. Again this information is not clear on booking.
The car we hired was definitely suitable to our needs and we have no negative comments regarding this but the customer service and all the apparent hidden charges that are not disclosed on booking ,along with the forceful manner that we were addressed has resulted in our decision to never use europcars in the future.
We will pay the extra $20-30Aud and go with a company we have used numerous times with great customer service and clear policies.
Europcar owed me $200, phone support agreed. When I emailed as suggested , they cancelled my booking. Ive now paid $3000 for 2 car bookings, and have no car and no money
I booked a car (Reference A) for my overseas holiday and paid (rounding) ~$1700. When I rang to check something, the booking was 'adjusted' (and confirmed) by Europcar and the value was now ~$1500, BUT they already took $1700 payment.
A few weeks later I get an email, book now to save ! I do the calculations and can get the exact same booking for ~$1300 so I book (Reference B) for the lower price and cancel the Reference A booking.
I ring Europcar, tell them what Ive done and say Im owed $200. The woman checks everything (online payments, booking details etc) and SHE AGREES IM OWED $200! She says email customer service, tell them what you told me and you'll get the refund. So I do just that.
I GET AN EMAIL FROM EUROPCAR.
THEY CANCELLED MY BOOKING.
I DONT HAVE A CAR AT ALL.
THEY EMAIL AND SAY THEY DONT OWE ME ANYTHING, THE DIFFERENCE WAS A FEE (DURING THE FREE REFUND PERIOD WTF).
SO I HAVE:
* NO CAR
* NO MONEY
* A DYING RELATIVE BEGGING TO SEE ME
* NO SLEEP
* NO HELP FROM EUROPCAR
NO WAY
EUROPCAR ARE A NIGHTMARE MIGRAINE WRAPPED IN A BUCKET OF TEARS.
ITS NOT THAT HARD PEOPLE.
lying cheating company
lying cheating company. upon car pickup, the "extras" were pulled out. roadside assistance (which i had already paid for), late pickup (my plane was delayed 30 min). tired (it was 10.30pm) i just paid it, and then paid the $200 "deposit" which was supposed to be refunded. less than half refunded, upon query (answered 2 months later), the same excuses came out "roadside assistance charge....." BEWARE AND NEVER USE!
I’m sharing my recent experience with lack of disclosure of additional charges
I’m sharing my recent experience with Europcar to warn others to check their rental agreements very carefully before signing.
I rented a vehicle at Gatwick South and was later charged for multiple “optional” extras, including insurance and service add-ons. These were not clearly explained to me at the counter, and I was not made aware that they had been added in a way that significantly increased the total cost.
I raised the issue within 24 hours of the rental starting and followed up several times. Despite this, Europcar rejected my complaint, relying solely on the fact that the agreement was signed—without addressing whether those charges were transparently communicated in the first place.
My concern isn’t just about the cost, but about the lack of clear disclosure and informed consent at the point of sale. A signature shouldn’t be used to justify charges that weren’t properly explained.
I’ve now escalated the matter to the BVRLA for independent review.
If you’re renting a car, especially at busy locations like airports, take the time to go through every line of the agreement and question anything unclear before signing.
Would not recommend based on this experience.
Misleading website around insurance. Totally inflated repair costs ripping off customers
Misleading website around insurance.
When you book online there is an option to add insurance. I ticked that option however I ended up having a small accident on the first day of rental. The car was drivable and I was told by europcar to keep driving it for the remainder of the term- 3 days. The damage was minor to say the least. Upon returning the car I was informed that the insurance I paid online through their website was third party so I had to pay $4159 for repairs and then go through the other company to see if they would compensate me. This is very misleading and the repair charges were massively inflated. I was actually really disappointed that Europcar treats consumers this way. It’s a major scam that is most likely happening multiple times a day and nothing is done to stop them. $4000 repair on a Nissan for cosmetic damage? So ridiculous and deceitful.
Car was scratched without only…
Car was scratched without only knowledge of scratches on one door but no knowledge of the other the photos where taken 24 hrs after returning the vehicle only third party insurance was taken it makes me wonder if the company criminally put the scratches there to surcharge me an extra 1500 dollars as well charging me 430 dollars for just under a full tank of fuel definitely a shonkey rip off company do not do any business with them they charged me 1070 dollars for a Kia Sportage
Europcar = Liars & Thieves... Hire Elsewhere!
CAUTION: If Europcar Staff (Roadside Service) tell you to return your car with half a tank of fuel in it to the Airport, DONT!!! You will be abused by staff upon doing so. Also, do not listen to what you are told, as you will be charged over $4 per Litre, even after you have been assured you won't be! and to top that off they will keep your security bond of $200.
I even recorded the call; took pictures & video to show I was at the Shell Service Station ready to fill the vehicle at 2am when my flight was 6.30am (so time was not an issue), Oh and if you think Europcar Customer Service is there to help... Think again, their so-called internal investigation is like a mystical creature (ie; a Unicorn) - IT DOES NOT EXIST --> Pity we can't give a minus number review, as I would be.. My advice, use any other car hire company, it will be less hassle!
Lack of Evidence, Communication, and Accountability
I had a deeply frustrating and concerning experience with the Eurocar Auckland branch.
During our rental, the air conditioning stopped working partway through the trip, which made the remainder of our journey quite uncomfortable. We experienced no collisions, caused no damage to the vehicle, and no warning lights ever appeared. This was clearly a mechanical issue that occurred during normal use. We also made a point to report the issue when we returned the car.
Despite this, Europcar later attempted to charge us over $1,600 USD for a radiator issue and “loss of use.” The only evidence provided was a single photo of the front grill of the car, with no explanation of what it was supposed to show or how it justified the claim.
Their damages department is extremely difficult to deal with. There is no phone number, and email responses take an unreasonably long time. For nearly two months, we were left in complete limbo with no clear communication, no real evidence, and no accountability.
Only after we repeatedly pushed for proper documentation was the claim quietly dropped, again with no explanation.
This process felt less like a legitimate damage claim and more like an attempt to charge customers for mechanical issues or pre-existing problems without proof. Being accused of damage we did not cause, then left in silence for weeks, was unacceptable.
I strongly recommend documenting everything and thinking twice before renting from this location
Europcar in Osborne Aprk are scammers
Europcar in Osborne Aprk are scammers - Be Warned.
Picked up a car with damage to the bonnet (have pics to prove). At drop off they said everything was fine but 10 mins later got a damage notification email saying I caused new damage.
It's been about a month now and I still don't know what's going on. They have not responded after I send them pics. They still have my deposits too.
Do not use europcar at Osborne Park!
Excess Damage Charge
Recently hired a car for a little over 6 hours and traveled just under 100km in the vehicle. A week later being accused of 5 stone chips in the windscreen and charged over $1,200 for replacement. I had taken 30 sec video prior to hire, but given the chips were so minor, I could not detect them in my pre-hire video.
Be very careful when using Europcar. And recommend taking car polish to assist in pre-windscreen checks to help identify any chips or blemishes that might cost you on return. I argued my case with Europcar and received a very poor response. STAY CLEAR
