I emailed DAF the first time with the photograph of the DAF premium meat with the batch number and date which was 2028, no one returned an email. I emailed again two days ago and Catherine was looking into my case. I showed her graphic photos of the mess my dog was in all over the sheet on the floor. I ordered the food online in August 2026 and been buying this DAF for three years plus. Naturally me and my dog know when something isn’t right. Now I am honest and it never occurred to read on TP the reviews, I have gone through every one star review and surprise surprise, all the Ill dogs and costly vet treatment seem to be around the same time July - August 2026. All the time via emails back and forth, I have shown enough evidence, asked Catherine to read TPs reviews and never said if she would, to me, the evidence is right here, read them, that’s evidence DAF !.. one of the responses Catherine mentioned said DAF send 1000s of their food out daily, because of the amount of batches cannot trace all batches. It isn’t just the batches Caroline it is the amount of Ill dogs from your raw food.Catherine said that many dogs cannot tolerate the amount of bone, possibly true, however not for everyone, but my dog has had your food, all flavours for over three years, Again that is evidence as this only started in summer. Catherine stated their is more bone in the premium range, strange because my dog has always been on this, and his bowel movements were perfect.

What I find is DAF are not telling us the truth, many on here have emailed DAF to complain and put through how much it cost in vet fees due to blockages, Catherine told me in an email they haven’t got any info people not happy with this complaint. There has been many complaints, but DAF are not doing anything. She also states my emails have been recorded, yeah right !
In another part of my email Catherine stated all dogs are different in regards bone content, and that raw feeding is a grey area. In my dog’s case not true, he has been perfect until this summer.

I am really shocked and saddened by these emails, DAF obviously do not want to know, sadly there will be other reviews on here where there precious dogs may have blockages, sickness, and bleeding around 200 mls of blood because they couldn’t get their poop out.

If you think your dog is ok on this, please watch them and check their poop… bone build up can be very costly and slowly until completely bunged up, it’s forced to come out by any means it can.

You have the tools now from TP reviews, everyone goes to the 5* reviews, I suggest you perhaps read the 1* this may save your dog. I will be taking this further..

I have written several lengthy emails to DAF, I have sent them evidence, sent a image of my dog having a bunged up bowel, another person had a £3.5K bill all because Durham animal feeds have changed the dogs recipe.

The small bones are sticking out like shards. My dog was very ill with sickness and loose bowels, crying, pacing and hasn’t eaten for two days.

The bone content whatever they say is too much. We have been using this food for over 1-2 years. My boys poop has been ok, until this Spring 2026.

A lot of people on here are going through the same thing. I had to take him off the food when he had fresh blood coming out his bottom all over his bed.

This was from straining.

Please if you insist on using this product, watch the poops and loose bone + bone content. The supplier does not seem bothered by our poorly dogs, These reviews are the absolute truth.

When I cleaned my fridge out I found one 500g of DAF food. I knew since changing to another supplier his poops were great, so I felt he would be safe to try to eat it. But no as I said he was ill with constipation again and was ill all over my kitchen with his bowels and sickness.
My dog hasn’t eaten for two days.

To all other dog owners who use DAF ranges of premium or standard minces, please change the supplier before it makes your dog ill…

These reviews should be taken seriously, knowing a owner having a £3.5k vet bill is enough for me to change suppliers.

Otherwise please avoid for your dogs sake.

If I could give any less than 1 star, I would.
We’re now 2 weeks into a very long, very uncomfortable, exceptionally worrying and expensive ordeal for my poor pup.
Having been fed DAF and only DAF since being weaned to the age of just over 3, I’d noticed the quality slipping. Shot found in venison, the duck so mushy and watery that even the supplier I buy it from has returned boxes to DAF following numerous customer complaints and removing substantial bone while prepping her food.
2 weeks ago today on a morning walk, she was struggling going to the toilet. She’s a very stoic girl and for the third time in her whole life, I actually heard her yelp - this time while passing a hard, chalky single bit of stool.
On return home she paced the garden endlessly for 40 minutes, straining and looking very uncomfortable, she then vomited, yellow vomit with notable hard bits of something in it. She is never out of my sight and does not get into anything she shouldn’t.
I took her for an emergency vet appointment. The initial diagnosis was constipation and she was sent home with anti nausea and pain meds. 48 hours later and she was showing no improvement. She hadn’t passed a stool in the previous 24 hours and was visibly unsettled.
I returned to the vet for another emergency appointment and asked for a scan to be performed as I just knew something wasn’t right. I received a call a few hours later telling me that her entire colon (the whole length of it) was blocked with bone!
Multiple enemas, 5 days being kept in the vets, repeated scans/x-rays to check for progress, liquid laxatives, various pain meds and having to be taken out every hour along with a feeding line in place due to her refusing food, she was discharged home to continue her recovery here, allowing her to have more rest and her familiar surroundings to try and encourage her appetite.
She is still passing shards of bone, I am home cooking for her and using appetite stimulants when she’s reluctant to eat at all for me.
Sleep is non existent and has been for over a week due to her needing to go out so often and then making sure she’s cleaned up and bone fragments removed from her rear end as she continues to pass them.
Thankfully she’s insured as the vet bill is in the region of £3500, but this is more than money, this is a dog who is usually full of beans, has a healthy appetite and predictable bowel movements. She’s lost 4kg in weight and looks so sad, all because of food that has massively slipped in quality (that doesn’t need testing, I can actually see the difference in the food).
I’ve kept one pack of each of the 4 proteins she was having, to potentially have these independently tested for bone quantity.
No pup should ever have to experience all that my little girl has been through (and continues to go through) these last 2 weeks.
Needless to say the remainder of our supply has been binned (along with my daughter’s dog also having been fed Durhams, but that was switched the day we received the news that my girl had a complete bone blockage). I will never again feed this food to any dog and am sharing our experience on any and all groups, along with just word of mouth to family/friends to try and prevent anyone going through a similar situation.
I am just glad I trusted my gut, I didn’t accept constipation as an answer and pushed for the scans that may well have made all the difference to her still being with me.

Good quality food and excellent delivery service

Awful dog food, packs now have obscene amounts of bone and ended up leaving our dog very ill resulting in a £1200 vet bill!!

I have used daf for over a year and not had any real issues. Been the odd dodgy pack here or there but nothing major.

The last 6-8 month my Frenchie has been getting boneless chicken breast fillets and we added in some boneless beef this month. I noticed over the last 2 months the chicken was getting darker in colour.

I was on holiday and my mum sent me a photo of what I thought was the dogs teeth and he’s damaged them but was actually the dad boneless beef ! To me it looks like teeth but my mum says it’s maggots and they were moving , she thought she took a video then binned the food but was a photo. Emailed daf on Sunday night still had nothing back. Really disappointed. I spend £140 every month and dog food with a large batch he won’t be eating.

I brought two boxes of mince beef for my two dogs from Shergolds as they sell Durham pet supplies.
I have been picking out untold amount of teeth, so they’ mincing animals heads. I think it’s totally disgusting.
I’m not talking small amounts these teeth are like half a tooth. I have nearly a cup full which I’ve picked out.

On the label, it says it contains some bone liver, heart kidneys .

I would not recommend this raw meat to anyone!!!
Upon opening a pack of frozen turkey and strawberry I could clearly see many sharp 1 cm shards of bone which obviously would have caused severe illness and a hefty vet bill if I had fed this to my dog. It went straight in the bin. I have since read reviews about DAF and wish I had done this before purchasing. Luckily I had only bought 1 pack to try from my usual raw meat shop. In future I will stick to Drool 80/10/10 and Southcliffs complete as these raw meats are exactly as described on the packaging.

As we've seen in other reviews here, at some point this Spring, DAF changed their manufacturing process, recipe, or similar. What was previously a reliable food that we enjoyed feeding our dogs, is now a bone-chunk ridden mess, that made all three of our dogs very poorly. One of them threw up literally everything he had inside, and we were very lucky the bones didn't perforate his insides.

We contacted DAF to inform them of this, and said understandably we were unable to trust the one single delivery. After all, it may have been a bad batch. And so, as many would, we asked for the order to be refunded - this was only around £60.

They have proceeded to deny that the food has bone chunks, despite photo proof of three different recipes, have been extremely rude, ignored our communications, attempted to gaslight us, and refused to refund the extremely modest amount.

We are now pursuing other avenues to ensure that we have this order refunded, but more importantly other pet parents need to know that feeding DAF could be putting your pet in danger

Just fed the Game and Tripe to my two dogs, went to wash out the packed for recycling and found two ball bearings rolling around the bottom! God knows if the dogs have eaten any, this food is disgusting quality, avoid! Looking at previous reviews there’s no point contacting them either.

Our dog has been fed Durham for a few years, although I noticed the quality and blood content was getting poorer over time. 2 months ago our dog couldn't go to the toilet and was deteriorating so needed emergency surgery. A few vets have since confirmed cheaper raw food brands are now adding more bone content which dogs struggle to digest. Their packets list bone as a main AND then other ingredient to I assume to cover the extra added. Lesson learned to pay more for little or no bone after a £1,900 vets bill, but luckily our boy survived!

I have been feeding my dogs this food for 13yrs now and it is great quality and not overpriced like many others. Labelling is clear, packaging is excellent, and as a business they are very approachable with good customer service. New Hilton Farm range is going down a storm! One of the best.

I have been using Durham Animal Feeds (DAF) for raw dog food for 2 years and although there were some differences in the quality of the batches I would receive, I never had any major issues until my last delivery. I received one lot of food that was basically just blood and smelt foul, and another lot that was really high in bone content and nearly caused my dog a prolapsed colon.

I bought 3 boxes (14x 454g in each) in 3 different flavours. The Meaty Mince smelt absolutely foul and looked like soup - it was all blood and just mush, my dog wouldn't eat it when previously he has lapped up this flavour. The Duck & Pumpkin looked extremely dry and had such high bone content it nearly gave my dog a prolapsed colon, he was yelping in pain trying to pass the stool for 5-10 minutes and his colon was extended out of his body by around 2 inches. Eventually when he managed to pass the stool, it was rock hard - and I am not exaggerating. His bottom was extremely bloody afterwards.

I reached out DAF and explained about the issues and provided photos. I have never made any sort of complaint to them before. They weren't willing to give me a refund or discount on a future order, and instead insisting all they could do was collect 2 samples of the food to be checked over; but I would have to wait a week for them to collect it and then they wouldn't give a timeframe on how long it would take them to assess the samples or how likely it would be I would get any sort of refund (it was clear there were issues with the food from the photos I provided). I said I needed the freezer space to buy alternative food for my dog so could they take all of it back, but they wouldn't take it all and it seemed highly unlikely they were going to refund me anything at all.

I am really disappointed in their customer service after being a customer for 2 years. The quality of this delivery was appalling and I really would recommend dog owners avoid using them.

After being a customer for a number of years the quality of the food is now awful. The final straw was when our delivery didn’t arrive and when I contacted them was told I had asked for collection. Luckily I had a email to state I had asked for delivery. Asked when they would be delivering and was told it would be the following week ! I was told I could collect it but it’s at least 45 mins away. I was offered £10 compensation which wouldn’t even cover the fuel. My dog was left without food. She actually passed away the next day so they actually ended up doing me a favour !!!

I use DAF for novelty minces to give the dogs variety. They've been okay but lately less reliable, minces keep being discontinued and deliveries keep being rescheduled. I've been understanding but this time I felt I should do a review.

Put an order in, delivery delayed so I updated delivery instructions as that day was awful for me to have a delivery. I left specific instructions not to ring the bell before 10.30am that day for specific reasons. Also spoke to the lady and said I wasn't available to talk the following day. So following day arrives, I miss a call and 2 more products are now discontinued since placing the order and they have substituted despite specifically selecting no substitutions. Order arrives and they ring the bell and all hell breaks loose as I specifically needed them to not knock or ring and just leave it in the garden. They never bothered reading the instructions. Now I have a freezer overflowing with too many of one mince and a random mince I've never ordered.

Prior to this i also tried the chicken fillet chunks. They are fairly colourless and one of the dogs screwed up his face and poked out his tongue so I won't order those again.

I guess they are okay for novelty minces but be aware the delivery and product availability is unreliable and they might change your order too!

Excellent all round. I normally buy DAF raw chicken mince and bones from an outlet but decided to order direct for a change as they don't always have the frozen raw pork ribs that my Lurcher prefers. Absolutely spot on service from order to delivery. I find the frozen raw mince to be perfect for my dog and he loves it. I will definitely be stocking up the same way next month.

Disgracefull Durham is now cutting the bones into small peaces with barely any meat and guess what prices remain the same with a poor quality. Dont buy . Will no longer purchase. Making money out of bones . Discusting

Dreadful company. Sent the wrong food and after nearly month of email exchanges, they still haven't offered any kind of compensation or sent the food we ordered. We won't use them again.

I ordered from Durham for the first time. Didn’t have to wait long for delivery. Their emails were very informative and they were very punctual with delivery. The goods were packaged well overall very impressed. Will use again.

Been ordering from DAF fro around a decade now. Had deliveries and click and collect. Never had a problem and the dogs are thriving.

Eventually order replaced, although I had to threaten small claims court. To be honest the standard of the meat is not great, sloppy, and a lot of bone. With all the problems of the delivery, I definitely will not be ordering again...

Ordered over £70 worth of food. No communication as to time slot of delivery. Food was left in pouring rain on a public road leading to a park before 7am. Only discovered it had been left when I checked an email to say delivered. When when to collect it, it had gone. Crime reference number supplied but still no idea when I am being refunded. Customer service non existent, just made to feel it was my mistake as I didn't read the email I never got and they feel its quite acceptable to leave in a public place
