Coding Dojo was a pleasant experience
Coding Dojo was a pleasant experience. The material moved very fast but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing because you have an expectation of what you needed to know. The school was trying to make you job ready as fast as possible. People were very friendly and supportive. The only suggestions I would have is to focus more on object oriented programming and have more real life example projects that employers would want to see. Overall I enjoyed the experience and have had communication with my teachers past my time learning there which lets me know they are supportive in assisting my career. They didn't just see me as a number.
Disappointed. Untrustworthy
I found that the instructors were not truthful about the percentage of students who get developer positions afterwards. I think they are quoting statistics that are not true. I feel that this is false advertisement. Please talk to recent graduates before signing up for this. You can find them on LinkedIn with titles of "freelance developer", or "seeking developer position".
Its quite funny that you can find a very similar learning platform online for free. It is called freecodecamp.org. I wish I would have known this before I payed 13,000 dollars. freecodecamp also has online and in person communities where you can get the same experience by coding with others.
I get a really strange feeling when I am there because they have cameras everywhere. This makes me uncomfortable because I know the instructors are sometime watching live streams of students. I saw this happen while walking behind an instructor once.
Also, three "project weeks" and one "break week" are weeks during your time there where people don't come in. So technically you pay for a month where there is NO instruction. Very disappointed in that.

I encourage everyone who wants to be an excellent developer to choose Coding Dojo because it is the best school that most of the big companies recognize for their potentiality and your paper will have a lot of value as well.
It's a pretty good experience for a …
It's a pretty good experience for a non-traditional "classroom." If you like more structure, then this is not the program for you, but if you like learning from the comfort of your own home, this could be perfect for you.
The instructors (for this course) are knowledgeable and answer questions politely and quickly. That's a huge plus when is trying to learn.
Pricing for the full programs is expensive and classes are fast paced, so I'd vet instructors as well as teaching style very closely before buying in. Also, I would come fully prepared to the full programs. I'd already have a good, broad basis in HTML & JavaScript. I'd also practice algorithms beyond their free platform.
Challenging, but Worth It
I came to the Coding Dojo with some experience in Software Quality Assurance; however, I had no knowledge of programming. The onsite program was a big challenge for me to get through but I'm glad that I did it. The instructors and mentors there were phenomenal and great to work with.
Very impressed with coding dojo
I was a little hesitant about Coding Dojo when I started but I was honestly blown away by both the school itself and by the kind of students that I saw there. Most students there have some work experience and a lot of them have college degrees. A lot of people, like me, were looking for a career change and were serious about learning.
I ended up getting two different offers from great companies and was very pleased with the job I ended up with. It can be a little tricky looking for jobs afterwards because some companies focus a lot on CS degrees or in-depth technical interviews which were tough coming from so little experience, but I was surprised at how many companies also valued me more highly because of my diverse background and didn't care about my lack of experience.
If you are looking for a career change or looking to get into coding, I would highly recommend coding dojo.
I like the concept of coding dojo BUT...
I like the concept of coding dojo, learning with many students from different fields who has passion about coding and many awesome instructors. But I don’t know why does coding dojo allow instructors work on their personal projects or spend time hacking other websites during school hours. We paid nearly 10k to learn and learning 3 stacks within 3 months is very tough for starters. I remember at the night before final exam, the instructor barely finished the course and most of the students were still half way through. He was rushing to leave early and a student tried to “encourage” him to demonstrate codes on exam-review since the final exam is next day morning but he told the student don’t “brown nose” him. He gave first exam that was not covered by the review .... it may be just happened on this particular instructor but as an instructor he should be humble and try to encourage students more. and not try to fail students on the exam. And we all know 3 stacks program is way too rush, then maybe should consider redesign a program that is more suitable.
Coding Dojo was a phenomenal experience
Coding Dojo was an amazing experience that gave me confidence to not only program and learn more programming afterwards, but also to self teach any topic that I am interested in. Prior to Coding Dojo, I had no experience with programming or even the command line, but I am currently learning C quickly and smoothly with little issue due to the skills I gained at the dojo. Now I am prepared for internships and full time not just technically but also in work ethic since the bootcamp required rigorous schedule and self drive and motivation for success.
I thought it was an excellent boot-camp …
I thought it was an excellent boot-camp for aspiring engineers. However, I felt that there should be extra work or instruction available for those that excel rather quickly rather than a one size fits all approach.
The instructions from their platform …
The instructions from their platform were often very poorly written and caused a lot of confusion. It seemed like Michael Cho didn't care enough to re-write the platform or proof read it before launching. If students are going to be paying $13k, we expect no flaws in the platform.
The learning of 3 languages felt like a waste of time. You leave bootcamp feeling very unconfident because you didn't even come close to feeling like you were above a novice with the languages you were taught. All you did was build forms to submit data for Python/RubyOnRails. It would of been great if we actually built projects instead of repetitive assignments. I would of much rather focused on 1-2 languages, with the option of sticking to one language only, but learning advanced concepts. I've already forgotten what I've learned from Python/RubyOnRails.
The instructors were great and present but I think Coding Dojo has a flaw in its curriculum, which made the bootcamp feel very rookie-like (also, calling students "ninjas" made it feel even more so, hello elementary school). Maybe that is why Coding Dojo doesn't seem like it's on the map of reputable coding bootcamps. I chose Coding Dojo purely because of location, otherwise I would of much preferred App Academy or Hack Reactor.
My overall rating would actually be 2.5 Stars and I probably wouldn't recommend Coding Dojo to people unless they have a very good understanding of all the basics. I hope they redefine their curriculum and add a giant dose of seriousness to the bootcamp.
Daily algorithms rock!
I believe the daily algorithms are a valuable part of the course of study.

Keep updating the platform and grooming the teachers to be better. I also think you may want to teach React instead of angular but that's just me ;)
Best Choice I've Ever Made
I went in knowing absolutely nothing about code, except that HTML had something to do with web pages. At first, I was hesitant about any kind of cram course, but "will I get enough out of this?" very quickly became "am I going to make it through this?" Coding Dojo makes sure the answer is yes to both questions. I chose on-site and I'd highly advise others to do the same. Learning with a bunch of people struggling together helps more than you may think! Coding Dojo's student support, both in person and online (they have instructors online that immediately answer questions), is absolutely excellent. Also, they have given excellent career counseling during the weeks following graduation (job search/resume/interview prep, and direct connections with recruiters from your area). They say they want to jump start careers in code and accomplish it with flying colors.
Life-changing experience!
Not what I expected but still somewhat alright.
I went in thinking there would be these big high-res displays and found out we had these old 720p monitors and some of them didn't have the cords to connect to your computer.
I thought there would be more of an assistance when learning a type of thing but instead, most of the lessons were a lecture for an hour, which was nice, followed by multiple hours of just sitting and trying to figure it out.
The best part was the algorithms during the morning, I thought that was the best way to learn as you were doing the same task with other people so if you did get stuck you could get past that roadblock easily and learn the thinking process behind why you were stuck.
Working in the field is very just "Do you work, and have it done on time" and so I get they needed to convey that to a point but at the same time, this is the teaching part where people are fresh into this and need help to learn and I think there wasn't enough "hand-holding" to put it lightly.
I met some cool people and overall had a good time but this was not what I thought it would be based on the marketing, and not what I felt warranted the price I paid.
Get more out of Coding
Even the expert coders will get a run for their money during the daily algorithm sessions :)
I had a great time at Coding Dojo
I had a great time at Coding Dojo. Sure there were frustrating moments but that is to be expected while learning to code. It isn't easy and you will hit walls. The pace is quick so it will certainly not be the best option for everyone.
The best boot camp ever
Great teaching team. Good atmosphere for learning. Highly recommend this place for productive getting skills.
Poor instruction/instructors; Not enough time spent on fundamentals.
Coding Dojo (Seattle) seems to place more importance on preparing their students to become Coding Dojo instructors rather than preparing individuals for real-world developer roles.
Overall, I'm pretty disappointed with my experience with what I witnessed going on (favoritism and instructor-absenteeism) from instructors with ZERO real-world development experience (see above statement), the poor state of the curriculum over my time there (out of date instructions/platform, poor guidance, poor platform construction, not enough time spent on fundamentals, etc.), the fact that we didn't have a stable internet connection for over half our time there (I hope I don't need to explain why this is paramount)... I really could go on where they fell short.
I'm glad that because of my previous experience in the industry (I came to expand my existing knowledge base), my career as a developer didn't hinge on the inexperienced, inattentive, and partisan instructors at the Seattle location... but I can't say the same for the rest of my cohort.
Obviously, I can't speak to other locations, but I'd steer clear of this one until the organization gets their act together and replaces the poor excuse for instructors at this location.
