Great Boot Camp and Friendly Staff

Before I started at the Coding Dojo, I had very little experience with programming. I had always wanted to become a developer, but for whatever reason I had never taken the steps to get there. A few months before enrolling at the Coding Dojo, I decided to start taking the steps to become developer by taking several free online courses and reading several books. I found these things informative, since I essentially knew nothing. However, this wasn’t enough for me. I knew I needed to have a structured curriculum and personal guidance, if I ever hoped to switch careers.

I began shopping around for boot camps and was accepted into two local programs. Before deciding on which of the two boot camps to attend, a friend recommended the Coding Dojo. My friend had a family member who’d been through the camp, and they had spoken positively on their time there. I looked into the Coding Dojo and decided upon attending their course because of the flexibility with the part-time program, the stack options, and the price.

During the 20 plus weeks at the Dojo, I had taken both the Python and MEAN stack. Every instructor I had was knowledgeable, informative, friendly, and more. Through lectures, videos, and exercises, the instructors and the course content taught me how to be a competent developer. This meant learning how to approach problems, to be self sufficient, and write clear, concise code.

I am happy with my experience at the Coding Dojo and it was money well spent for me. I highly recommend the online boot camp. I will offer a word a few words of caution if you decide to take the plunge; make sure you take the time to really dedicating yourself to the program, do your algorithm training, don’t be afraid to ask for help (I always suffer in this area), and don’t beat yourself up if it takes you awhile to really know what you’re doing, just keep at it.

Coding Dojo changed my life for the better

Choosing to attend coding Dojo was one of the best educational decisions I've ever made. That being said, it is not for everybody. However, for those that are willing to devote nearly 1000 hours and over 3 and a half months and have the sincere desire to succeed, Coding Dojo is like a haven for coding education. The environment replicates that of an actual workplace but still allows you room to make mistakes, leaving you very well prepared for the workforce. The instructors are unbelievably talented and so are your classmates, who will become not only your best help and collaborators, but friends as well.
Coding Dojo recognizes that what they teach is hard and learning it in such a short time is even harder, so they do everything they can to frame the curriculum in the easiest, clearest way possible and work to hold you accountable.
One unique thing about Coding Dojo is the daily algorithm challenges. These are excellent technical interview prep and are extremely valuable to you as a future job seeker.
Furthermore, I was a huge fan of the Dojo's three stack curriculum. I firmly believe that this method of teaching is the best way to prepare for a career in an industry where technology in ever-changing. You will leave coding dojo with a newfound ability to learn at a rapid pace, more coding knowledge than you know what to do with, and an overall excitement to start your job search.

Accountant to Coder through Coding Dojo

Choosing Coding Dojo was the best decision I ever made! I was working as an Accountant after graduating from UW for about 4 years but decided that I couldn't see myself continuing in this career. I took an all day coding class at another boot camp and fell in love with coding! I was originally going to go with that other boot camp but discovered Coding Dojo while doing some research. I loved how I would get to learn 3 stacks in 14 weeks! I understood that it would be very intense and take a lot of time out of my schedule but I was willing to put in the effort. The instructors, TA's, and other students are there to help you out along the way which is a big bonus. I truly enjoyed my experience at Coding Dojo and would highly recommend them to anyone interested in learning about coding!

you get what you put in - Online Cohort - Jan 2017

As a person who went through the online cohort portion of CodingDojo..
I have found that it is VERY VERY difficult to learn a language when it comes to programming (or even learning a language in general). With that being said... 6 months to learn 2x stacks and your Front end isn't enough time for someone with NO PRIOR CODING KNOWLEDGE. But hard work and diligence is what pushes you through.

Most people would learn coding primarily because of the fancy financial aspect of it, it looks GREAT and FUN! especially if you're guaranteed to make 70k-120k.

Truth is... Coding/Programming is a LIFETIME of learning (I am learning that NOW) because it is ALWAYS changing/improving.

I'll be honest, I fell behind and had difficulties in CodingDojo, especially with the online Cohort. When i first started, i was ALL FOR IT! i played a game which used HTML/CSS so in the very beginning, i was ahead of the game.

Once javascript/Python/Django/SQL/ all the other stuff came about, i was SWAMPED and fell behind very quickly.
many people QUIT. I'll admit i didn't get ALL MY BELTS. but what this had taught me was that... if you don't CONSCIOUSLY UTILIZE WHAT YOU LEARN, you'll lose it.

I've had an instructor show me in a video chat what he does on a daily, he makes debuggers in python, and to see the person go from a blank .txt file to a bunch of code, honestly intimidated me, but it also showed me the value of the work/effort that was put into programming.

I now am working as a Contract Web Developer for an awesome, and I'm a lifelong learner, as a matter of fact, i'm learning (yet AGAIN) Data Science now using Python (going to get into Machine Learning/AI).
I'm grateful for the instructors who were there when i had redundant questions, and to help me set goals for my aspirations (without a goal then).

Is CodingDojo $6,000 worth? for some YES, for some NO.

For me it was worth it, because i've tried learning on my own prior to going through codingDojo, and not having a GUIDE for programming/coding stinks because you lose momentum and confidence QUICK.

It's easy to throw in the towel, but for me, i've decided to be a lifelong learner of a variety of things (programming also)

It has definitely made me much better than I was.

Overall great bootcamp.

I attended The Coding Dojo Jan-Apr of 2017. I enjoyed my experience at the dojo and would recommend this school to someone looking for a good bootcamp. Having been in the industry since shortly after I graduated I would like to see some changes at the dojo.

I think the dojo should focus primarily on javascript frameworks like angular and react. I took the iOS stack while I was there and it is very unrealistic that anyone would find a job as an iOS developer after graduation. I would also like to see the program go from a 0-100 type bootcamp to a 20-120 bootcamp. Some students do not have a future as a developer and not everyone should be accepted to the program if they cannot complete some of the easier learning on their own. It would also be great to see some more events for alumni and students to network at.

You Get What You Put In

Coding Dojo will give you as much as you're willing to put in to it. I attended the in-person bootcamp in Burbank having very little prior knowledge of web development (but some experience writing code), and came out of it feeling like a confident web developer. And yes, I was able to find a job as a result of the work I did at this boot camp. However, I dedicated nearly 12 hours a day to the curriculum and projects, and aggressively applied for jobs following the program.

Coding Dojo offers a good variety of stacks for you to learn, so it helps to know what languages you are interested in learning or intend to use in your future career prior to attending. The curriculum is incredibly fast-paced, and the material for it is, for the most part, comprehensive (although there are some lessons that could be better-written). The instructors are attentive and make themselves available to answer questions. But if you are seeking more focused, one-on-one instruction at your own pace, Coding Dojo may not be the best fit. The instructors are flexible enough to accommodate to your own learning speed, but you will fall behind the rest of your cohort.

The algorithm sessions and the way the lessons are taught encourages cohesion among cohort members, which makes learning the material easier overall as well in such a supportive group environment.

I have to say I didn't have a perfect experience at Coding Dojo, though. During my cohort's attendance there, the institution was not entirely transparent with availability of some stacks, which led to some confusion in the planning of what stacks some of us wished to learn. Additionally, we lacked an on-site career adviser during the residency period when we were applying for jobs and building our resume, which added to some struggle transitioning into the career search portion of our experience.

Overall, though, Coding Dojo offers comprehensive introductory curriculum that can make you a strong programmer, as long as you're willing to put in the work as well. I would still recommend this program to anyone hoping to learn web development.

Coding Dojo Online - Some Good, Some Bad

I WAS APART OF THE ONLINE CLASSES.

The low parts of coding dojo was the pacing/organization. As a student with zero experience, I found it hard to stay with the current flow.. I was behind on every stack.
By the time I was getting a language, we were already on to different things.
However, that is the atmosphere of coding boot camp. It also seemed like students who had prior coding experience were able to keep up or even get ahead.
If possible, maybe allow a extra week between languages for review or catching up.
Or just do two stacks spread over the same time period. HTML, CSS, Js and then Python, C# or MEAN...

Good parts are the instructors. They often went out of there way to help and made themselves available throughout the day. Classes sometime weren’t the most organized and had some lulls due to errors but that’s coding!

Great part was Susan and the career readiness week. She was very helpful, very intelligent and resourceful. I definitely will not hesitate to contact her if need be!

I joined the San Jose campus in 2017

I joined the San Jose campus in 2017.

Listen to the suggestions from the staff and the teachers. When they say you should put in 100 hours a week and you should DEFINITELY come to algos every morning they mean it. There is a lot of freedom in this program; they let you approach it at your own pace and don't hound you if you're not keeping up or not staying late (basically they treat you like adults). That also means you're expected to take FULL RESPONSIBILITY of your own learning experience. If you skip algos every morning and barely get red belts you shouldn't be surprised if you're struggling to find a job afterwards. I specifically chose this program because they emphasized academic freedom and responsibility but you still find that a lot of people struggle with that level of freedom.

Teaching is top notch and the instructors are very dedicated and invested in helping you learn. They're also pretty serious about the 'strength through struggle' policy so don't try to look for shortcuts. It was an intense program but I learned a lot and definitely enjoyed the program as a whole. The program rewards initiative and curiosity and I really appreciated their whole teaching philosophy. By the end of the three months I really appreciated how much the teachers helped me, felt like I learned a lot, but still felt like I could've done more and still want to learn more about programming.

Career services felt like the weak link at the program. The guidance and advice was very generic (resumes, LinkedIn profiles, networking and interview questions) and offered very little help specifically regarding tech roles or the journey/process for new boot camp grads. I asked a few friends in the tech space that gave me a lot of specific advice (managing your GitHub profile, the Cracking the Coding Interview book, the importance of big O notation in interviews, HackerRank challenges, navigating the market as a new Junior Developer) that wasn't really covered at Coding Dojo. People should still attend Career Week, especially if they don't have a lot of experience looking for jobs in general, but after an outstanding three-month learning experience it was a bit disappointing to have just a satisfactory Career Week.

I'm still looking for a job 3 months after graduating and most of my best leads come from my existing network. Applying online is really difficult, especially because most places want at least two years experience or CS degrees. If you do get an interview they really are just like the questions from morning algos so again GO TO ALGOS. Understanding the technical interview process is just as important if not more important than all the actual coding you do.

Overall it was a great program and I'm really happy I did it. Be ready to take responsibility for your own work and progress. The teachers are very friendly and helpful but they also expect a lot of you. It's basically a sandbox of resources and opportunity and it's up to you on how much you take advantage of that. Come in ready to work and go to algos!

My honest assessment.

Here's the thing. I took the online course and it cost me $6000. I did learn something but not much and certainly not $6000 worth. Save your money, read a couple books and buy a couple of Udemy courses. The pace was ridiculous. I had prior experience with Python, HTML and CSS otherwise i would have been completely sunk. There were large gaps in the curriculum. It is possible to go from writing basic "for loops" to creating a full stack site in a few weeks but only if you skip over everything in between. I found that the course really was not enough. I am not sure it would have been enough even if i had been able to keep up. I had to figure most of it out on my own using material outside of the program. It was frustrating and time consuming to find the answers on my own but I didn't know enough about the material to ask the right questions. Once you get just a little behind, you're finished...the pace is ridiculous.

Here is an analogy....think of learning to go to the grocery store but only knowing one route to get there...what do you do if a road is closed or you need to figure out how to get to another store? If you have a good map and understanding of your surroundings you will find another way to get food, right? BUT if all you know is that one path, you will starve. Not a perfect analogy but i hope you get the idea.

I liked the instructors...i think they were knowledgeable, nice people. They did the best with what they were given. It is just too much.

Perhaps the Dojo would benefit from creating a program that teaches one stack REALLY well.

I left the program feeling robbed and completely unprepared. I did not put Django, SQL, Angular, Mongo, Express or Node on my resume when i finished.

I will make the most of it and circle back to re-learn all of it on my own, then someday I might have the skills to become viable in the developer market.

I am not sure who the people are who found jobs after going to the Dojo. No one i know. Most likely folks who when to the brick and mortar schools ( which costs $13,000 by the way).

If you think i am just some random lazy whiner, you don't have to listen to me. Don't be tempted by the siren song of landing a $70,000 gig after taking this course.

Sorry for the long rant...i just can't warn you enough.

Run...just run.

Coding Dojo isn't for everyone

Coding Dojo isn't for everyone, plain and simple. If you need slow paced teaching to really solidify concepts and complete assignments, independent studying or online courses that let you go at your own speed should strongly be considered. The curriculum is accelerated which can create a lot of stress very soon. The expectations the instructors have with their students to grasp the material quickly is high. That being said, it isn't impossible to finish all three stacks knowing you put in good work, but that's just it, you need to put in the work. Keeping up is difficult, but if you're willing to invest your time in the platform, ask for help, work late and over the weekends, you'll see amazing results. The whole point of this bootcamp is to condense two to three years of a computer science degree into four months, to create self-sufficient, full stack developers. It’s not impossible, but it’s not easy.

One thing I didn't completely agree on was the priority of belt exams over projects. At the end of every stack, you're required to take a belt exam to show you can create a fully functioning application with the material you learned in the prior three weeks. I understand the importance of grasping the concepts and being tested; however, encouraging projects and working in teams should have been the highest priority. Requiring projects is something the student(s) can look forward to because they can be creative and collaborative. Instead of needing to pass an exam before exploring project ideas, the projects should be the exams.

I encourage anyone who knows a classic school environment isn’t for them, to explore Coding Dojo. The amount of information you learn in the very quick fourteen weeks is mind-boggling, and it’s amazing what different frameworks, languages, and databases you are exposed to in such a short amount of time. If you have a great app or website you want to see made, make it yourself with the help of Coding Dojo! Just remember, everyone’s journey is different and take one day at a time. It's the little moments that end up being the most rewarding.

Coding Dojo was a great experience

Coding Dojo was a great experience. I ended up doing the online program since I am not near any of their campuses. If you are doing online, make sure you can make the time commitment. You can't slack or do just a few hours a week. The lecture schedule was good as they offered 2 lectures per week plus code reviews at the end of the week where we can review assignments or go over anything. The 2 lectures during the week they would offer 2 times, so if you missed one, you can catch the second one later, plus all lectures are recorded so you can access them anytime. The TAs are very helpful, you can message them or your instructor on the Mattermost channel and get help when needed. A few times even while getting help, we ended up starting up a Zoom video conference. The learning platform is nicely laid out. The programs themselves are good, you learn a lot but you also learn how to do things on your own. One of the main focuses of the dojo is to be a self sufficient developer, trying to problem solve and figure things out for yourself first. This definitely helps when you go out into the job market. When online you learn 2 full stacks where if you are on campus you learn 3 full stacks. As you start applying you'll see how much of a benefit this is knowing more than one stack as you can apply to more positions and companies are looking for candidates who know more than one language, framework, DB. There career services is awesome, they really set you up for entering the job market, from your LinkedIn profile to your resume to creating job alerts. Also with networking, how to present yourself, interviews, and when you graduate you are always able to reach out for advice. You can also get the alumni pass once you graduate which gives you access to the entire learning platform so if there any other stacks you would like to learn you have access. I would recommend Coding Dojo to anyone who is serious about starting a career in the web/software development field, but you must be committed. If you are near one of the campuses I would suggest to attend in class, nothing can beat that full immersion but if you can't then the online option is a great choice as well.

Great Experience. But...

I've had a bit of coding experience before we started, not much though. I would say I was pretty excited to dive deeper into the world of development. As things progress in the dojo, you start to notice a more hands-off approach as things get more complex. Often found myself dealing with different issues/bugs for hours that I should have only spent minutes on. When these add up, time ends up not being on your side. Assuming this is by design, I felt at first frustrated that I was learning as much as I was on my own, but I will say that struggle prepared me to be an independent developer. Our instructor did a great job. Advice for newcomers, I would prepare somewhat before jumping into a boot camp because any headstart you can get will be needed. By the first day, I had quite a bit of time spent preparing. When things start moving fast, don't expect your cohort to slow down for you. If you are looking for someone to hold your hand 8 hours a day, this may not be for you. Also if you only have eight hours a day to learn, this will take wayy more than that so again may not be for ya. It will take a bit of grit to excel and get the most out of it. Be clear with yourself why you want to join. Define your expectations and be ready to work to achieve them. I did those two things and am now a software engineer for a local company.

Also, the real work starts after the dojo. As you finish your time at the dojo, know that it's only the beginning. There is so much more to know in the stacks you will learn. Plus, new frameworks and different languages that you will encounter as a software engineer. Be prepared to continue learning more. Also, job opportunities will not magically show up at your front door. Be proactive and have projects available to show employers or potential clients. My opinion is it's not about what you learn but what you are capable of doing with that knowledge that will make you stand out.

Wonderful experience

My experience here was very positive. I had many hesitations before coming to coding dojo wondering if it was the right decision. As for my background I have a B.A. in business administration and had been working several years in a non tech environment. I had coded as a hobby but had very little experience and no education on it. I basically knew enough about coding to realize I liked it a lot and wanted to learn more.

I had no idea if i could make a career out of it by going to a bootcamp. After extensive research I decided I would attend coding dojo in an attempt to switch careers and learn more. If you are wondering the same then please take this advice.

You Get What You Put Into It!
This is very important to understand. The program flies by and everyday matters. Make sure you can be committed to code, eat, and sleep for 4 months. Students who stayed late or came early got a lot more out than others. This program doesn't magically get you a job in the industry. Even after graduating you still have to work hard and keep learning in order to find work. If you only completed the course material it will not be enough. You need to build things of your own and keep learning more. Build side projects, a portfolio page, post to GitHub, contribute to open source projects, and buy a book on algorithms and do one everyday.

For me the most important take away from this program is that I feel it truly helped me become a self-sufficient developer. I may not know everything about a certain topic, but I have the tools and knowledge to fill in the gaps myself. This has given me confidence in coding that I did not have beforehand. If you are looking to gain the skills to be a self-sufficient developer and have the time, energy, and passion to put into it then I recommend this program.

You get out what you put in

This is true for Coding Dojo more than anything else I've been a part of. The model of becoming an entry level developer in 14 weeks is highly ambitious but definitely attainable if you're 1) willing to put in the work, 2) have solid personal goals and 3) keep yourself accountable. Now the idea isn't after 14 weeks you'll know enough to get any job you want. But you should have enough experience under your belt in order to SELL YOURSELF to a future employer that you have the tenacity, aptitude for quick learning, and high work ethic on top of your hands on experience in a variety of different domains.

Do I believe everyone can be a software developer? Sure.
Do I believe everyone should be a software developer? Not at all.

Too many people are attracted by the allure of a high paying job after 3 months of work. They aren't doing it because they like coding or because they like building things, they are doing it for the fast money. I'd say if that is you, be weary of your decisions as you may find yourself without the extra drive needed to get yourself past the finish line (finish line being landing a job not graduating Coding Dojo). If I were to take a guess the majority of the one-stars on here are a result of that kind of thinking.

If you're looking for something easy or guaranteed, I'd say save your money and stick with whatever you're doing right now.

However, if you're looking for a time efficient way of giving yourself access to new opportunities in the tech industry, Coding Dojo is a great structure to facilitate your own personal growth trajectory.

Tips for any potential bootcamp attendees:
1) Learn your algorithms. Seriously. You will hear this again and again so you know it's the real deal. Since graduating, I've observed the #1 reason people aren't ready to start the job hunt process right away is lack of confidence with algorithms (and thus performance on technical interviews). The hour of algorithms every morning is a good base point, but not enough to get yourself to where you should be by the end. I recommend an extra 1-2 hours on top every day to dedicate to algorithms.

2) Start preparing your post-graduation job materials now. There's no need to wait until Career Week to start building your resume/portfolio/cover letters/LinkedIn/etc. This leads to having an overwhelming amount of work to do and only adds to the stress of looking for a job. Start cleaning up your LinkedIn and growing your network today, reworking your resume tomorrow, designing your portfolio next week and once graduation rolls around (which it will before you know it) you'll already have all the things prepared. Now all you have to do is polish it up and send it out. This gets you ahead of almost everyone else and sets you up for that much more success.

3) Create strong relationships and don't be afraid to use your network. Tell everyone what you're doing and let them know your plans for when you're done 3 months down the line. You don't know whose friend's dogsitter will have a brother that's looking for a new junior dev at their company.

4) Use other resources when you get stuck on something and even when you're not stuck. If the curriculum isn't clicking with you on a certain topic or you're not understanding the teacher's way of wording a concept, find answers in other places! When I encountered Object Oriented Design for the first time, I couldn't wrap my mind around it.. so I watched YouTube videos, a lot of them. And after the 15th one it clicked just because of a specific phrasing I heard for the first time. Coding Dojo's philosophy isn't about making you the best developer, but it is about making you self sufficient. How will you react when the inevitable happens and you don't know how to do something? This is the true test for any good developer and what employers really want to see (for a non-senior position at least).

Amazing learning environment for eager students

Coding Dojo is an excellent learning environment for aspiring and eager web developers to pick up in-demand skills in the hopes of starting a brand new career. For those who are willing to commit the time and effort involved in learning new concepts and developing new talents, the rewards are well worth it. The instructors are readily available to help students in their learning process, primarily through empowering the students to think through a variety of solutions and devote time to research. For someone in a pivotal stage in their life seeking to start a new career in a lucrative job industry, I highly recommend Coding Dojo.

Great program, but keep expectations realistic

Coding is a difficult craft that takes years to master. I came into Coding Dojo with some experience programming, but had no experience with web development. If you have no prior experience and are expecting this program (or any three-month program) to completely prepare you for a career in web development, you may be disappointed, especially if you have dreams of working for one of the "Big Four" companies. Ultimately, it's up to you to take advantage of as many resources as possible in order to become a self-sufficient developer. Contrary to popular belief, junior software engineering positions are highly competitive and there are many people in the industry who look down on bootcamp grads.

Before signing up for a this program, or any program, I would strongly suggest that you take advantage of some free resources, such as FreeCodeCamp, to see if coding is something that you enjoy and to decide if a bootcamp is the right fit. Many people are able to teach themselves using freely-available online resources/tutorials, but I personally enjoyed working in a community of like-minded people who were passionate about programming. I definitely learned more in three months than I had during three-years of self-study, and I'm very appreciative of the friends and professional contacts I've made at the bootcamp.

When signing up for the program, the administrators stressed that the bootcamp would require 70+ hours of study. This is definitely the case, especially for students with little experience.

Here are some of the strengths of Coding Dojo's model:
Good instructors who care about student success
Broad exposure to a variety of technology stacks
Exposure to a front-end JavaScript framework (Angular)
An introduction to SQL as well as NoSQL databases
An introduction to some of the more common CS data structures and algorithms
The program is relatively affordable when compared to other bootcamps.
There are relatively few bootcamps that serve the San Jose area besides Coding Dojo.

Here are some of the weaknesses of the bootcamp:
Depth in different technologies is definitely sacrificed for breadth. Graduates from bootcamps that teach a single language will likely be able to create more advanced applications in the given stack.
You will be learning how to implement relatively simple CRUD (Create, Read, Update, Delete) applications.
There are no entrance requirements for the course. This does tend to lead to a wide gap in skill levels among students in the cohort.
Proficiency in algorithms is not as strongly stressed as learning the individual software stacks. In order to land a job (particularly in the backend) you will have to demonstrate strong proficiency in algorithms.

My advice for those considering the bootcamp is to allocate at least 2-3 hours per day on algorithms while staying current on the BootCamp curriculum. In addition, I would recommend that while not coding you completely immerse yourself in the world of coding by reading blog posts, listening to podcasts, and reviewing documentation for popular frameworks/libraries. I graduated this week and will update this review after navigating the job-hunting process.

A pretty good stepping stone

I went to the dojo to see how I like programming full-time, and to learn web development for my own satisfaction. Often times I feel things could have been better, but I stuck with their curriculum and I think was better for it. The same amount of tuition could have bought me the same amount of time in a private university, but I feel I've learnt quite a bit more. And the opportunity to work in teams and alongside my cohort mates is priceless.

My last job required a certain amount of coding and I have a B.S. degree in math so nothing taught at the dojo was truly challenging but for the time constraint. I am a little disappointed that employers aren't lined up outside the dojo to hire new grads, but that's not quite realistic anyways.

Expensive

Expensive, no job opportunities, only 1 instructor worth his salt and he left!
Total waste.

Couldn't be more pleased

Learned a lot of excellent skills, not just limited to programming and problem solving, but also resume-writing, communication, and independence. Also made great contacts and friends with the other students in my cohort, and with the instructors. Worth every cent I paid for it and more. Highly recommend.

Don't go to Coding Dojo.

Wasted so much time and money. I truly regret putting so much of my resources only to be left down, left behind and put so much of a burden on my life that affects me to this day.
There are so many students that start attend to class (over 30) and realistically only a very small percentage of them will ever come close to landing a job. There is no standard of admission to the school and coding dojo will sell you on the hype and make to feel good about your first attendance during the first two weeks of basics because designed to be so easy when compared to the rest of the boot camp. That is when the cut off time begins for 100% refund then you become vested to take the rest of the boot camp. The plan of learning three stacks is the most flawed concept in the teaching industry because there simply is not enough time to get into a competent level in a one month period of time.
There are classroom politics that play as well specifically in Coding Dojo due to the nature of the accepting anyone and having as much as 30 students in one class. It's very typical to that of a community college however far worse. Examples would include drama among peers like developing boyfriend/girlfriend relationships, having certain social cliques similar to that in high school. The environment is very distracting.
So much false motivation is given with the whole motto of strength through struggle which sets 90% of the students to realize failure in the long-term future. During the attendance, reality starts to creep in that you have already invested so much time and money to realize that what you are learning is not enough to land a job to receive a return on investment. It is very common to see alumni come back to work on some Udemy lesson, not dojo content. It becomes a habit of going through the motions of making an attempt of trying to learn content for literally hours a day. A lot of the alumni even get off the suggestion that you should sleep on the couches there overnight because during your job search you will have a place to stay since you will not be able to afford a place to live because of the lack of a job. Seeing alumni fail on finding a job while mopping on a Udemy course on a daily is extremely demotivating as you attend a boot camp because you know that will be you soon. Honestly, just look at the strength of the Coding Dojo alumni. A very high percentage do not hold a job as a software developer and if they are employed, it will be unrelated.
