Better - Helston Sports Centre Arvostelua 

Absolutely brilliant, the hardest part is getting oneself motivated, but once you do, everyone at BETTER.ORG are there to help you achieve your aim! I suffered a prolapsed L4 lumber disc, and I started swimming everyday with Pilates in the evening, and I can honestly say it’s helping to overcome the pain & discomfort, fingers crossed another couple of weeks I I should be almost back to normal. Even so, I’ll still carry on with my training regime becuz the benefits are enourmous! Thank you 🙏

Booked a day in advance for a swim for all session today, 27th June (2 adults and 2 children), session was confirmed and paid for. Timeslot booked on the website was 9.30 to 10.20. Arrived, no one at reception desk so was 9.40 before we were checked in - the male on the desk scanned the arcade on the email and waved us on through. Got everyone ready and headed poolside. We were the approached by the lifeguard who informed us that we couldn't possibly have booked because they were short staffed and the swim for all had been cancelled until 10.30. I explained I had booked, had confirmation and had checked in. Again he said it wasnt possible and I would have had a cancellation email. Again I explained I had not had anything and had been checked in at reception. He insisted I was in the wrong and we couldn't swim. We left poolside with 2 disappointed children, got changed and went back to reception. The lifeguard was already on the radio to the male on the desk "she must have received a cancellation. She couldn't possibly have booked the timeslot she is saying etc." I explained i was the "she" and here is the email that you just scanned and the time I booked etc. A back and forth continued and the male on the desk who said he was also a lifeguard and didn't really know how the system worked checked and confirmed no.cancellation had been sent. They 2 then swapped and the lifeguard that we had met poolside came out to the desk, still insistent in his attitude that I was un the wrong. When he realised I wasn't he gave a half hearted apology but just in so much as I should have had a cancellation and he didn't know what else to say. We were told we could wait (45 minutes) for the 10.30 session, which we did but then had 2 very distracted and not really interested young children.
Part of the purpose of our visit was to check our the pool for enrolling our boys on the swimming lessons as their current ones are ending in the summer. This was really not a great advert for the organisation or customer service of the centre. I totally appreciate that things happen but staff need more training in how to handle system failures and not just tell customers it is them in the wrong.

Despite raising a complaint about swim for all sessions being run at the same time as the swim schools, it is till happening.
Also the changing area and showers need to be updated. We should have cubicles to change in. I sink like to see other women changing and showing. I certainly don’t want them to see me. I have to put on a dry robe and go home and shower. Also some
Parents bring male children into to the female changing rooms. That is potentially a safeguarding concern

I had a wonderful trainer who made sure I did all the right things in the right way.

I have an off peak membership that costs £35 a month. I don't use the facilities much, I admit, but I do like to swim. Off peak swimming has become less and less available, culminating this weekend in NO swimming available to off peak customers. Weekday swimming is available only for a few slots at midday, when it is actually busy with people having a quick swim at lunchtime. So in order to have a swim I will have to pay £7 on top of my membership fee. Complete rip off, paying for facilities that are not provided.
I've cancelled my membership and if I fancy a swim I'll pay the £7. Mind you as I live 5 mins from a beach I may take up sea swimming instead, it's free.

Friendly staff, nice atmosphere

I felt I must write and express my disappointment with the complaints procedure re. Helston Sports Centre. Even though I originally wrote to them to suggest improvements (kind of downgrading it from being a complaint) - all I received was a standardised, impersonal response from Better, saying the issue had been escalated to Helston SC who haven't responded after 3 weeks or more. The showers are cold every time I have been, and the changing rooms dirty with nowhere to change in private (except for the disabled toilet where the shower is also cold). I wonder if I am expecting too much to have a hot or at least warm shower after a swim, and then to change in clean, cosy, warm and comfortable environment - it enhances the feeling of wellbeing. But it is not just that, it is the silence from the Centre itself, making me feel like my suggestions/opinions are not important. I have put the 17 July as my visit, but it feels so long ago I can't remember the exact date.

Update: 5 Sept. Though escalated twice, I never received a communication about this issue from Helston Sports Centre. The end result is a feeling that my comments/complaint just aren't of any interest and, by extension, neither is my sense of wellbeing when visiting the pool.

16 Sept: This has been "escalated" three times by different agents with still no contact from Helston Sports Centre. I did appreciate the previous reply - on this site - another edit of a previous reply which felt like a reasonable apology (though not from the centre themselves). But this apology has since been deleted and replaced with yet another reply - prompting me to supply (for the first time) an ID number which I don't have. Better has had my details for over 2 months now and should be able to communicate via email privately whether I have an ID or not. All I wanted was some sort of acknowledgement from the centre of the issue I experienced and how things might be improved, and I would have returned for a swim (the pool itself actually being very good - but the before and after experience disappointing).

I have already gone through the complaints procedure without any response from Helston Pool, which is why I have posted a review on here. They will have my Id and email if they want to be in touch - I'm not going through that process again nor wish for any more interaction here after an earlier apology was deleted.

Staff are amazing but the ladies changing room and showers are in need of an update ( which I believe is being considered).
There is now only one swimming slot for the over 60's whereas there used to be two! Can the Tuesday over 60 slot be reinstated please?

I’ve been coming to Helston Sports Centre for over a year now and I couldn’t be happier that this is my local gym - the gym and studios are very well equipped, it’s always very clean and the staff are friendly, and there’s a wide range of great fitness classes! In particular Dan’s classes are just amazing - Dan is a very hands on and encouraging instructor who genuinely cares about his classes and people achieving their goals. Each class always feels motivating and enjoyable - thank you Dan 😊
