So glad I’m PAYG and I can just stop attending.
Please Better review your decision and let instructors be the experts of which music works for their classes. If so I’ll start attending again.
Returning to Thornton Heath leisure centre
Returning to the leisure centre after a few years away has been a truly great experience. From the warm and helpful greeting at the front desk to the expertise of Montell in the gym and Michelle’s energy and patience in the fitness classes, the entire team have made me feel right at ease. I’d especially like to thank Ryan, the manager; he was incredibly attentive and caring, taking the time to listen to me and offer genuine solutions. It’s also great to see how well maintained the facility is, the cleanliness is a testament to the staff's hard work. I’m so happy to be back.

The facilities are easy to book and use. Staff are helpful and patient, they deal with all queries. Have been with Better for about 4 years and have never had an issue.
Far too expensive
I do not understand how Truro can cost so much more than other leisure centres I use. I visit from time to time when in the area as I need to do fitness classes for my health. But the classes here at £11.45 are (in my opinion) extortionate for anyone on a lower income (I'm an OAP). As I only use occasionally, the membership offers are no help. I live in West Sussex, and for identical classes I pay £7.15 per session. I really think Better need to have a hard think about how they are adversely affecting people who really need their services, but are priced out of them.

As a pensioner, I try before Better in Edmonton, some gyms. Most of them are quite "chaotic", I mean, a lack of management, poor or nil personal support, unclean toilets most of the time, lack of staff in the exercise or sauna areas most of the time, etc., etc. But after the joint Better, I found a great gym where I can still look up for myself in a clean and pleasant environment, in peace of mind. The only regret for me is the restriction on not being able to use the gym on Saturdays and Sundays in the morning, as I have a membership discount by my age (over 60s).
Definitely not 'Better'....
I have two kids enrolled in the swim class at Teddington. Since Better took over, it has been an absolute mess and extremely frustrating (and time consuming) for parents.
Billing and direct debit - this had to be sorted out over multiple emails, phone calls and face to face discussions over several weeks and months . My son was booked into the wrong class, membership cancelled, reinstated, wrong membership, he then dropped off the system, put back on and the list goes on.
App and Portal - I have tried to log onto the app but not found it easy to use. If you want to track progress, you have to log on to something else (a portal) and need a new password and log in. It is not linked in any way. You can't seem to book or move classes on the app.
Service - unfortunately, the staff at reception have no idea about the swim classes. The levels and stages have changed now and I was told my son was in the wrong class this whole time. When trying to move him into the right class, they discovered that he had in fact completed the stage above already? After 45 mins of confusion, they could not book me into the next class up saying they are unsure of availability and I now need to email someone else.
This is absolutely ridiculous - please please sort it out.
Eltham Centre, a place that promotes grown men threatening and abusing pregnant women
My wife and I are long-term members of our local gym; we have been members for over 10 years, have never caused any problems, and have always been courteous. Recently, when we went to attend the gym, the security company that runs the car park had closed the gate. This was not a problem for us, as we are both easy-going people and were happy to park elsewhere. We parked outside the school where, by law, you are entitled to park until 8:00 AM and again after 5:00 PM.
As we parked, a very rude member of the security company named Jay told us to move, claiming we were not allowed to park there. He was very aggressive and rude in his manner. He insisted we were "not allowed to park" there, stating that a lorry was coming and we would be blocking the entrance, and he aggressively demanded that we move. When he finished shouting, I replied, "I’m happy to move for the lorry, but I am entitled to park here by law if I want to, and don’t talk to me like that." At this, he exploded and began a verbal assault. I also responded with verbal insults, as I do not believe you should ever let anyone bully you or be aggressive toward you—especially when you are a paying customer and a member of the public. During this time, a member of the Eltham Centre staff was present and agreed with everything Jay was saying. Jay also tapped on my car door and said, "Leave your car here if you want to see it get smashed up." This suggests that this security company is comfortable threatening members of the public and that the Eltham Centre is happy to endorse this behavior.
After some back and forth, I moved the car to another location just so I didn't stop the lorry from turning in when it eventually arrived. At that point, "Jay from the security company" said he was going to ban me from the gym. I parked around the corner and began walking in with my wife. When we entered the centre, we were stopped by one of the Eltham Centre managers, who told us we weren't allowed in and instructed us to "skip it for today."
Jay and the Eltham Centre staff continued to be verbally abusive. Jay almost resorted to physical abuse toward my pregnant wife; he balled up his fist as if he were going to punch her, squared up to her, and got in her face. He only stepped away when I stepped in front of her. I pointed at him and told him to back off and not stand so close to my pregnant wife. He told me not to point at him, to which I replied that he had been pointing constantly the entire time. He refused to acknowledge that he was pointing at me, and the Eltham Centre staff falsely claimed that he never pointed and never touched my car (despite the fact that we have a picture of him pointing and there is CCTV to show him touching my car). Feeling outnumbered by the liars and bullies belonging to the Eltham Centre and the security team, I decided to leave.
I have complained several times to the Eltham Centre, only to receive a reply stating, "If you need us to do anything more, please let us know." I have had a chat with the manager, but I still have more questions than answers. I am still waiting for a proper resolution regarding these events. I will not let this go, as I believe Jay is a danger to the public; he was very close to physically assaulting a pregnant woman and did verbally assault her—all of which was backed up by the Eltham Centre staff. I've also had no email reply from their complaints team, but I left a bad Google review and they came back and said that I was lying, without any review of the CCTV, as I requested.

I joined Swim Doctor as someone who genuinely panicked in the water and couldn't do much at all. The atmosphere is so friendly and welcoming that I felt at ease from the start. Elise is calm, patient, and really attentive — she breaks things down in a way that actually makes sense and builds your confidence step by step.
I've gone from barely managing in the water to confidently swimming a small lap, which feels like a huge achievement for me. I've still got a way to go, but I'm actually enjoying the journey now — something I never thought I'd say about swimming!
Highly recommend for anyone who's nervous about getting in the pool. You're in great hands.

Cancelling my membership
Nice facilities but terrible organisation. The facility closed for events with zero notice to members. Swimming pool are mostly for lessons now. Paying members are crowded in 2 lanes and schedule of lessons keep changing and is not available anywhere but a single paper document on the wall, so impossible to know in advance when there wont be children lessons. - i am thinking of cancelling my membership. I totally understand lessons can take place but at least te Centre should share the information so paying members can adapt. Really bad management, bad experience, avoid.

Cold showers
Albany leisure centre has the coldest showers ever, I asked the staff at what temperature were the showers set at and was told 39 degrees. Feels more like 20 degrees. I see children shivering under the showers shameful for better uk not taking action and investigating this problem as I have complained several times to staff.
Also the price difference between Albany centre and Southbury centre is ridiculous for a swim and sauna there is appox £4.00 difference.WHY?

BETTER better for who?Not your instructors or customers I have been a member for many years using many centres I have made so many complaints… the lack of cleanliness turning up to classes only to find out they were meant to be removed from the system,broken spin bikes which never get fixed ,no AC for months in the height of summer because a dispute over money,no hot water to take a shower,a pest control infestation which hasn’t been dealt with ,broken studio equipment ,gym equipment out of service for months and there so much more and now we have been subjected to listen to this dreadful music which NOBODY is happy with
The last 3 weeks have been awful and I’ve had to force myself to come to my classes instructors unable to log on to the app it cutting out mid class and having to do classes with no music at all
Well done Better I didn’t think things could get any worse but I was so wrong
I along with others will soon be going elsewhere Money is more important to you than your staff or customers

Staff are always friendly, welcoming and always willing to help. The sauna, gym and centre as a whole is constantly kept clean by staff. Lastly, the gym has modern and well maintained equipment however a T-Bar row machine would be welcome.
