Had a wonderful tour at the Lizzie Borden House with Karen as our guide. She was very knowledgeable about the history of the house, Lizzie, and her family and community. Very much enjoyed our time. The one thing I would say is that the tour group we were with was a bit large for the size of the rooms. It's hard to fit everyone in some of the spaces, but overall, the tour was very much worth it. Thank you, Karen!

Tour was well paced and informative. Tour operator allowed time for us to explore and take pictures while fining us information about the grisly history of the home. Nice that they have parking in the rear of home.

The tour guide was amazing. She was very knowledgeable and would answer questions about the tour. It was great experience specially since it is a night tour, it makes the whole toyr feel a lot more spooky.

This review is specific to the Jennie Wade Birth House.

My husband and I planned a bucket list birthday trip to Gettysburg from October 23-25 and drove 475 miles specifically to experience some of the area's paranormal attractions. Because we only had a long weekend, we had to be selective about what we chose to do. The Jennie Wade Birth House ghost hunt (not the tour) was at the very top of our list.

We arrived early for the 10:00 PM ghost hunt that was advertised as a hands-on paranormal investigation using equipment. The hostess in the office was very friendly, welcoming, and enjoyable to talk with. During our conversation, we asked how many people were signed up because the previous night we had participated in a ghost hunt elsewhere with only six other guests. We were surprised when she told us there were 34 people scheduled, but we decided to keep an open mind.

The hunt started promptly at 10:00 PM, and there were indeed 34 participants. The group included two large parties, one with nine people and another with seven. What followed felt much more like an overcrowded tour than a ghost hunt. The walk to the location and the initial storytelling consumed almost 20 minutes of the scheduled two-hour event. Once we reached the house, all 34 people were packed into the tiny kitchen while the host explained the equipment.

The large group was then divided into two “smaller” groups. The two large parties, totaling 16 people, were assigned the downstairs area, while the remaining 18 of us were sent upstairs for additional history and touring. While we were still receiving an extended history lesson upstairs, the downstairs groups had already begun their investigation.

Unfortunately, what we could hear from downstairs sounded less like a paranormal investigation and more like chaos. There was yelling, banging on walls, and knocking on doors throughout the house. While I understand that the company cannot completely control the behavior of every guest, they absolutely have a responsibility to manage the group and establish appropriate expectations. Beyond ruining the experience for other paying guests, the conduct being allowed was shockingly disrespectful to a historic property. Watching people pound on walls and doors in a building that exists because of the efforts of those who preserve and maintain it was frustrating and disappointing. It felt less like a professional ghost hunt and more like an uncontrolled group activity with little regard for the location's historical significance.

After approximately 30 minutes, our upstairs group still had not begun investigating. To make matters worse, there was virtually no equipment available for us to use. Upstairs, 18 people were left to share just three EMF readers and a REM pod. Meanwhile, the equipment table downstairs had already been emptied by the two large groups. The result was that the majority of the upstairs participants would have been left standing around with little opportunity to actually participate in the experience we had paid for.

At that point, we informed the host that we were leaving as it wasn’t what we expected. We returned to the office hoping to explain our concerns to the hostess, but the office had already been locked up. Once we got back to our car, we called the advertised 24/7 number to report what had happened. We were told that a manager would contact us. To date, we have not received a response.

The most disappointing part is that this was supposed to be a highlight of a special birthday trip that required significant travel and planning. We didn't come for an overcrowded history lesson. We came for a ghost hunt. Between the excessive group size, lack of equipment availability, disruptive guest behavior, disregard for the historic property, and the complete absence of follow-up after we raised our concerns, this experience fell far short of what was advertised.

Had this been marketed as a large-group paranormal-themed tour, our expectations would have been different, and we wouldn’t have booked it. Instead, it was sold as a ghost hunt and delivered very little actual investigation time for a significant portion of the participants. For anyone looking for a genuine, hands-on paranormal investigation experience, I cannot recommend this ghost hunt.

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable of Lancaster history and the ghosts people have experienced. He encouraged all of us to share our ghost stories and interacted with us. The tour was a lot of fun!
