DO NOT USE Flex Pay by Upgrade! Fraudulent Business Practices. Upgrade received MY REFUND of $1863.34 on February 19th, 2026 for cancelled airline tickets that I had paid in FULL over 4 payments, August to November 2025. Per their website, they said refunds for overpayment would be returned in 7 to 10 days via initial payment method which was my debit card.
I spoke to Upgrade on February 28th and they asked me to link my entire bank account to receive a transfer. I did not feel comfortable linking my bank account due to volume and nature of complaints on BBB, so I choose to have a check mailed. Upgrade said my refund check would be mailed in 4 to 6 weeks from March 2nd, 2026. I have spoken to them numerous times regarding my refund. I called again on April13th, the customer service rep and her supervisor said check was mailed on April 3rd, 2026 via UPS with NO TRACKING!. It is now Friday, April 17th and STILL NO REFUND CHECK!!!!
I plan to contact the San Francisco District Attorney's office to help me recoup my funds. I also have submitted complaints to Consumer Protection, California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation, and any businesses that promote and integrate Upgrade on their sales platforms. Do NOT USE UPGRADE, Inc. FOR ANY REASON!!!

Upgrade made it possible for me to book my flights early so we received a great deal! Plus, the interest is lower than my credit cards and I had a definite timeline to pay off the tickets. We had a wonderful time on our trip and I’ll definitely use Upgrade again!

Overall easy to do
Overall easy to do. Would have liked to create a better payment option but once I created the payment set up, a few more minutes to change what to pay was easy enough.

BAIT AND SWITCH
I received a pre-approval letter after my credit score improved, which made it seem like I’d qualify for a meaningful loan with reasonable terms. I took the time to complete the full application and entered the confirmation number they provided.
What I was offered was nowhere close to what was implied. Just $1,000 at a 32% APR. That’s not a serious offer, and certainly not something that matches the expectations set by a “pre-approval.”
It felt misleading from start to finish. The marketing draws you in, but the actual offer doesn’t reflect it at all.
To make matters worse, I was able to get a significantly higher loan with far better rates from another lender without any of this runaround.
Overall, this experience felt like a classic bait-and-switch. I wouldn’t recommend wasting your time.
