You get what you pay for...
As others have said, easy to set up! It’s after the insurance begins; so do the problems! Black box is harsh for new drivers, but they do keep in touch. My daughters insurance was cancelled after 6 weeks. The policy cost £1600 and after they take off their “fees”, “admin costs” and the six weeks of policy we lost £700. The refund of £900 will apparently take 4-6 weeks to process! I would suggest to anyone, you are better paying a little more for a good insurance company than dealing with Sky!

We would like to look into this further for you, so please contact us so we can investigate.
To clarify however, we explain all necessary information on the phone, as well as asking the customer to confirm they have understood the policy terms, before allowing it to be purchased. As part of these terms we outline all of the charges and costs should the policy be cancelled at any stage. Black box policies typically incur additional costs compared to a standard car insurance policy as the telematics device that is fitted to your vehicle is not refundable after it has been fitted.
We will also provide this information by email. As such, there are no hidden costs.
We do our best to ensure there are no misconceptions as to how our policy and processes work, and will ask the customer to confirm they have understood the terms before going ahead.
With regards to the length of time it takes for your refund to be processed – as we are a broker we must wait for your funds to be passed back to us from your underwriters before we can process a refund. 4-6 weeks is typically the longest this process can take. This is also explained and confirmed to be understood by you during the telephone purchase.

Very misleading
Very misleading. I knew nothing about cars and mileage, I was advised on 3,000 miles was “more than enough” I have spent almost 2 grand on this insurance company, when you run out of miles it’s £240 for just 1,000 miles or £480 for 2000 miles. If you go over the miles your insurance is cancelled within 7 days so you have no choice but to pay for more miles otherwise you have no insurance and lose out on any no claims discount. I kept buying miles but as a young new driver it cost me a fortune. The customer service was good however there was no option but to either buy miles or get the policy cancelled, no advice given or agreement apart from split payments for added miles. I received a lot of emails saying that if I go over my milage my policy will be cancelled, I’d get an email every couple of weeks saying this. I’d get a letter sent to my address of a cancellation as soon as I ran out of miles. Instead of a reminder it seemed like more of a push to make you buy more.

We’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy with the policy.
When a customer provides us with a mileage estimate, we will break it down into monthly, weekly, and daily amounts, and ask the customer if their estimate is still sufficient. On top of this, we will always query exactly what the car will be used for, and will only pass comment if the estimate seems low. So we will assist as much as possible to ensure that the policy being bought is suitable, and to avoid the possibility of being charged. Put simply, we never allow a customer to buy a policy without us having a conversation about the miles, and the implications of running out. We will also ask for confirmation that the policy terms have been understood before allowing purchase of the policy.
To go a bit further, our system will monitor your vehicle use and automatically send a warning letter if you’re usage trend indicates you will run out of miles before the end of the policy. If you continue using the vehicle in the same manner and subsequently run out of miles, we will then issue another letter explaining you’ve run out, and that a payment is due. This payment will be influenced by your overall score, which you can monitor on your online dashboard. The dashboard also shows the miles you’ve used, and how many are remaining.
