Sold on False Promises, Ignored When the System Failed
**Sold on promises, let down by the product and ignored by customer service.**
I feel completely misled by the sale of my solar panel system. I was explicitly told that the inverter would switch over within seconds of a power cut, restoring power. Having experienced multiple power cuts recently, it has failed to do so every time.
This was a key selling point, and the system has not delivered what I was promised.
To make matters worse, I have contacted REST several times over the past few weeks and received no reply. No explanation, no support and no attempt to resolve the issue. That is unacceptable aftercare.
My experience has left me feeling that making the sale mattered far more than looking after the customer afterwards. Promises made during the sales process mean nothing if the system fails to deliver and nobody responds when you need help.
Based on my experience, I would strongly advise against buying from REST.

Thank you for your review. We would like to clarify the findings following our investigation into the issue you reported.
We referred the matter to the manufacturer, who carried out an investigation and confirmed that, at the time of the reported power cuts, your battery charge level was between 6% and 8%. The minimum charge required for the backup switch to operate is 10%.
As the battery charge was below this threshold, the system did not have sufficient charge to activate the backup function. The manufacturer's findings therefore indicate that the issue was due to insufficient battery charge, not a fault with the backup switch itself.
The backup function is dependent on the battery having sufficient charge to operate, and this requirement is important to understanding why the system did not switch over during the power cuts you experienced.
We hope this clarifies the outcome of the manufacturer's investigation and addresses the concerns raised in your review.

Poor after sales support
Sales people excellent but the commissioning was underwhelming to say the least. Our system didn’t work when first installed in early Dec 2025 and had to be remotely booted a couple of days later. Subsequently the app didn’t work properly because of various technical issues, giving us the false impression that we were generating a lot more than was actually the case, resulting in a couple of very large electricity bills. The installers finally came back a few months later after we chased them ourselves - Rest proved incapable of sorting out an appointment - and made some more system tweaks. But the system still wasn’t reporting usage correctly. We finally got an independent solar contractor in who recommissioned the system with Duracell, at a cost of £150, and it is finally working and reporting as promised. We have contacted Rest numerous times to recoup this money but we have been totally ignored. The other issue is that we stressed at the point of purchase that we wanted a system that could operate in power cuts and were led to believe our system would do so. It doesn’t. Very disappointed. Would not recommmend.

I just spoken to Michael Britcher from Rest-UK. What a gentleman he was. We noticed some issues with our battery since our smart meter got installed . And Michael talked me through with WhatsApp pictures and explained the issue (and trust me I am not an Electritian ) ! I asked him if they could send someone and he made me aware how expensive the call-out charge is for a solar professional to come by ! He saved me nearly 500 pound !
He also made me aware of possible compensation I could claim for the mistake that has been caused by the electric company ! What a gentle soul this man is ! Thank you for your help and kindness you showed me ! It’s much appreciated !

I still have some guttering hanging down from my roof, and have been unable to speak to anyone despite calling, sending photos, and messages
I had to go down to the tip to clear a lot of rubbish left here, and the installation took 2 days, as the men had to go off somewhere else having delivered the equipment here, and said they had no room for the rubbish.
This all became very unnecessarily stressful.

After sales service - appalling.
The installation went ahead without too many issues, however, customer supports is seriously lacking.
Our battery storage system has failed. Several telephone calls, 2 separate support tickets raised for the same issue which mysteriously disappeared and are reported as not existing, further chase up request but still no reply! Installed in 2021 it has now stopped working, no error display - it's literally dead and should still be within warranty.
When raising a ticket, their system emails with a reference code and a link back - however, both tickets say they don't exist. You couldn't make it up. Seriously, you could not make it up, the ticket must have been raised to issue a reply with a reference..........
I have no idea if i will ever receive a reply or whether i will ever see an engineer to fix it. Reading other reviews, this seems to be pretty standard. Save yourself the headache and find another supplier/installer.

1 telephone call, 1 support ticket raised which mysteriously disappeared, 2nd support ticket raised and then a further chase up request but still no reply! Our battery system installed in 2021 has stopped working and should still be within warranty but who knows when we'll get some form of reply, let alone a visit to fix it?!

I had a zoom call with Andy this morning, to discuss a possible Solar Installation and I very much appreciate his honesty in pointing out to me, that because I live alone and at the age of 83, he would not recommend I consider having this work done, as the payback period would be in the order of 15 years, when he would suggest a payback period of 6 years being ideal for the investment. Quick installation very poor aftersales care
The installation process was fast and efficient, and the team on site worked professionally. Unfortunately, the after‑sales service has been disappointing — calls and emails are often ignored, and getting any follow‑up support or resolution has been extremely difficult. A company with such quick service should really improve its communication and customer care after installation.
**UPDATE** - As I finally managed to get through to someone I am considering to update my review as the main reason of my negative review was not the actual service provided but the lack of response to my email and that no one picked up a phone on repeated attempts in a span of several weeks.

On reviewing your communications, I can only see a complaint about the purchase price of your system, rather than any issue or complaint regarding the system itself. As this complaint was not raised before the works were done, but rather several months after the fact, there's not a great deal we are able to do for you.
If you were unhappy with the price and had raised it before the system was installed, this is likely something we could have worked with you on, but we make clear and are proud of the fact that we don't sell bottom of the barrel, budget equipment, but rather premium systems that will stand the test of time.
Looking at your system statistics I can see that, since your installation, over 80% of your home's energy needs have been supplied by your solar panel system, and you've also sent back almost a full megawatt to the national grid, meaning your solar PV system is delivering incredible results, as expected of a premium service and system.
