Required legal action to resolve issue
Purchased a vehicle from Prestige Motors that developed engine faults within 24 hours.
Initially, after I reported the issue within 30 days, their customer service seemed great, they apologised and asked me to get a repair quote. However, as soon as an independent garage provided a quote, their attitude completely changed. They attempted to dodge their legal duties under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 by claiming there was 'no warranty' (even though their website still says ALL their vehicles come with a 3 month warranty), before blaming it on wear and tear and lowballing me with partial contributions of 25% and 50%.
I declined obviously and they ignored formal correspondence on more than one occasion. In the end, I had no choice but to report them to Trading Standards for attempting to negate my Consumer Rights and issue legal proceedings against them via Money Claim Online.
Predictably, the second official court papers landed, Prestige paid the 100% full repair bill (nearly £1800) plus my court fees in full to avoid a County Court Judgment (CCJ). 3 months of stress over what was supposed to be an exciting purchase.
To any future buyers: Know your consumer rights and don't be afraid to take them to court—the legal process works!
