First time training in a powerlifting gym and it was incredible. World class equipment and atmosphere. There is a real community feel to the gym and I felt very welcomed.

This is the best gym and powerlifting training facility in London. There’s no shortage of free weights, and the people at the gym are friendly. Definitely the place to train if you’re near Putney.

Found this gem of a powerlifting gym when traveling from NYC to London on my way to IPF Master's World Championship in South Africa. The gym was very easy to find in East Putney and was very close to the tube. The gym owner was very kind and accommodating. The gym has all the equipment needed for powerlifting training, and I was able to get in all my lifts very efficiently. Highly recommend this gym for anyone traveling in London who needs to fit in a training session. Also a great gym for locals who are powerlifters or who are interested in learning how to powerlift or who want to learn proper strength training technique for general health. Really appreciate the kind hospitality and look forward to returning in the future.

The best powerlifting gym in London. Every piece of kit you can ask for. Fully equipped with all the bands, chains, slingshots and attachments. Has everything you need for a top session! Great members, coaches and incredibly run by Chris!

Fantastic Gym. I've been going here for around 10 years now and it's one of the best gyms London offers. It's a place with amazing equipment, good gym culture and etiquette, and a sense of community.

I competed as a female sprinter for 20 years. My sprints coach encouraged me to join a powerlifting gym because he thought I was very strong. I asked around and my physio recommended Physical Culture Gymnasium. I phoned up the owner, Chris and he made an appointment for me to have a look around. I was blown away by the wide range of equipment in the gym. I had never seen so many weightlifting/calibrated powerlifting plates and bars in my life. You name it, Physical Culture has it. I signed up straightaway. I enjoy going to Physical Culture to train. It's a very friendly environment for both women and men, with some exceptionally knowledgeable powerlifting and weightlifting coaches.

I needed a powerlifting gym during my trip to London and heard great things about this place. I messaged the owner who said to come over and train for the week. The gym has everything you need. There’s more equipment in this place than Iv ever seen in another gym. If you need it. It’s in this gym!

I’ve had an amazing time at Physical Culture. This place has history and you can feel it straight away. Top tier equipment for powerlifting, variety of bars, racks and benches along with calibrated plates - one could not expect more. Well equipped, specialist, weight lifting gym full of helpful & knowledgeable people. This is the place to go if you are looking to do strength training or power lifting. There's a friendly community here and the facilities are great.

One of the coolest gyms I’ve seen! If you’re a power lifter or wanting to build strength this is the place to be! I was looking for a place with an Olympic Weightlifting platform and they have that too along with bumper plates and an IWF barbell. Really great vibe and welcoming for any level of experience. Highly recommend if you’re in London!

Amazing gym! Best in London if you’re looking for top tier strength/powerlifting equipment. Lots of character and very friendly/warm staff and owner.

I've been a member here for a number of years, the reputation of PC is well deserved, being one of the few true gyms that holds competition standard equipment. Do not let that put you off, not all members are competitive athletes, it is such a lovely environment where all members are polite, interesting and supportive. Even if it's your first time heading into a gym, I can assure you everyone is more than willing to help out if you're unsure about anything. Chris is also a real gent who truly cares for his member base.

PC is definitely up there as being one of the best gyms for powerlifting. I always have a good session there when I travel down.
The gym has an endless amount of equipment including bars and plates which are IPF approved. The gym is also suitable for Olympic weightlifting and strongman training (another bonus).
The place to check out if you are in and around the Putney area. Anyone can go regardless of level and ability.
The owner and members are friendly as well which is a bonus.

I have been going to this gym on and off for the last 10 years, and have gone to many gyms in between. This one stands out as an absolute gem. Friendly group of people and great lifting equipment. If you want somewhere different from the Health clubs and chains (and the clientelle that goes with them) this is a no brainer

Physical Culture in Putney is the best powerlifting, strength training and weightlifting gym in London. The owner Chris is a legend and runs the gym with passion and dedication. Chris is extremely knowledgeable, helpful and knows the game inside out. Physical Culture was founded in 1928 and is one of the last old school gyms left in the UK. It is stacked with competition powerlifting equipment, Eleiko bars, calibrated plates, squat racks, and a superb selection of high quality free weights. Possibly the only gym in the UK that still uses Nautilus machines which are by far the best. The gym is clean, its members are friendly and dedicated to training and consequently the gym has a good environment. The trainers in the gym are world class and hold numerous records and championships. Regardless of whether you are a beginner or a pro this is the gym that will take your training to the next level.
In closing, members in the gym range from all age groups so please don’t feel discouraged and join up. It would be a crying shame if Physical Culture is forced to close its doors because it cant sustain heavy rent increases, members favouring commercial gyms and the corporate take over of the gym market.

PC is simply the best gym I have been to. I recently planned a flat move based on still being able to train here.

It has the densest collection of strength equipment per square foot that you could imagine, serious kit that suits all levels from casual health and fitness to serious competitive lifters or bodybuilders. Members are from all walks of life, everyone is friendly, welcoming and respect each other and the gym itself (you’ll never find a barbell left loaded for someone else to put away).

Honestly if you are within striking distance of East Putney and have the slightest interest in strength & conditioning, you owe it to yourself to come check it out. It puts commercial chain gyms to shame.
