Although the date marked on the original review was April 28 (date of the problem), OnCourse actually responded to my previous negative review within a few HOURS.

They set me up with a special Customer Service Advocate who was completely responsive and helpful. I agreed to have the original HVAC company return --- provided that an OnCourse representative was in attendance. Due to scheduling problems for the OnCourse representative (and the upcoming heatwave), he instead arranged an appointment with a different company: Great Dane Heating, Cooling, Electrical, & Plumbing; they sent out a tech the same afternoon.
The Service Tech they sent out was a real Pro. He diagnosed (and then resolved) each problem. First of all, the original company had only connected 2 of the 5 wires for the thermostat --- only enough for the heat to work. Without the other wires connected, there was no possibility that the Circulating Fan or A/C ever could work. I can’t vouch for this omission as of the original furnace installation date (in December 2025), but the fact that the Fan-Only never worked suggests that that was the case. The Tech also verified that they had improperly jerry-rigged the heating system in the original installation, thereby preventing the two-stage system from going into high-heat mode --- which explains why I had to resort to space heaters during the coldest days last winter. Since the SECOND visit by the original HVAC company had been in April, they had been given two opportunities to get the wiring correct, and they evidently lied to my face when they left the second time after telling me that the Fan-Only problem was fixed --- it would have been impossible for either the Fan-Only or the A/C to work, because neither was connected. The Great Dane guy installed the 5-wire thermostat that should have been installed at the time of the new furnace installation, and the heat and Fan-Only work just fine now.
Then he tackled the outside A/C unit. He verified that my relatives’ assessments were correct --- the compressor was NOT shorted out, so he replaced the expected parts, and the A/C is performing just fine (no trouble at all keeping up during the 95+ degree weather that was coming just days after he finished the work). Evidently, contrary to the report sent back to OnCourse by the original HVAC company that the outside compressor was unrepairable; the compressor itself was not in need of repair at all.
I have tried to be open-minded about it, but I just can’t come to any other conclusion than that the original HVAC company intentionally sabotaged my system so that they could come back the following Spring to sell me a new A/C unit (it would have been routine for OnCourse to send them back again to make good on the problems with the original installation). I still don’t know whether it was necessary to replace my furnace, but even though the old one was High-Efficiency, the fact that the new one is two-stage will mean that I eventually will end up saving money in the long run. I’m not suggesting that EVERY "unrepairable" judgement calls for a second opinion, but, if it HAD been necessary to zero-out my old system, then the Gold Plan would have cost OnCourse money, and that would have to be reflected in the rates that they need to charge everyone. The only winner in that scenario would be the HVAC company that got to sell a new unit that wasn’t needed.
I understand that OnCourse is taking appropriate actions to address the problems caused by the original HVAC company. They have to rely on the reports sent back to them from the companies that do the actual service calls, and only through Customer feedback can they know to deal with problem service companies.

Given the way that this problem was handled, OnCourse gets 5 Stars for the resolution.

Great Dane Heating, Cooling, Electrical, & Plumbing provided me with outstanding air conditioner repair service on 7/9/26. I called my Appliance Service Plan with Consumers’ Energy on Saturday, to fix the malfunctioning air conditioning unit. They scheduled Bryan from Great Dane Heating & Cooling to perform the repair. Bryan arrived on Monday, diagnosed the problem as the capacitor break-down and ordered the out-of-stock 70 microfarad replacement capacitor on-line. The capacitor was delivered within 48 hours and Bryan installed it on Wednesday, 7/9/26. Bryan was efficient, competent, friendly and helpful and did an excellent job. Thank you, Bryan. I highly recommend him for heating & cooling equipment maintenance services and I will call on him again for future maintenance needs.

The most important things for me when being serviced by a company is 1st being on time, 2nd to give you complete details if there is additional work needed to be done from what you had been quoted. 3rd being professional and 4th respects your home during repairs and cleans up after the repairs.

The service rep assigned to us (Ross) was a HUGE help in our experience with Oncourse Home Solutions as were the two repairmen that installed our new Carrier unit. Prompt, professional, friendly service and excellent Carrier HVAC products and workmanship. Purchase was made with technician, Raul Carrillo late Tuesday afternoon, 6/30 and installation was fully completed on 7/1. He went out of his way to get next day installation due to the extreme heat. The installation technicians, John Lopez & Anthony Milani did an awesome job with the installation and clean-up. It was an amazing experience from start to finish. I highly recommend Oncourse Home Solutions!
