The Beacon America PPO plan is designed to work within the UnitedHealthcare PPO network, rather than at every provider nationwide. Providers outside of this network may request upfront payment or may not be familiar with how to verify international visitor plans, which can sometimes cause confusion at the time of service.

In many cases, when a provider is unsure how to process the plan, they may attempt to check eligibility through a domestic system instead of the correct international network. For this reason, all billing, verification, and claims instructions are listed on the back of the ID card and are also explained in the “How to Use the Insurance” document available in the MyAccount portal.

It’s also important to note that providers are allowed to request payment upfront and submit claims afterward, depending on their office policies.

Hello!

We're so sorry you had issues at the pharmacy. Please note that, as stated in your policy details available for you to read before purchase, prescriptions are not billed directly to the insurance company from the pharmacy, so they are correct in not accepting your insurance card in that situation. Rather, you are required to pay up front and allow the insurance to reimburse you. Please also note that the plan you purchased included an RX discount card specifically for use at pharmacies, which will further reduce your out-of-pocket expenses.
