There were lots of opportunities to find tutees, but my main issue was with the pay cycle. They didn't have a regular pay cycle at all and so I never knew when I was gonna be getting paid and even now I was told payroll would come out on Sunday but it's Wednesday and I'm yet to be paid.

She was an outstanding tutor, one of the best my daughter has ever had.

HSA Tutoring truly helped to prepare me for the SAT and for AP exams. Not only did it assist me in my academic pursuits, but it also connected me to undergraduate Harvard students who shared valuable tips and insight about college life with me!

I just had my onboarding for tutoring, so I have limited experience to write about here. So far, though, the managers that I have had contact with have been very kind and helpful. I think that the package claiming system, especially with the new policies regarding pay for prep work, seems organized and fair.

I've had a great experience thus far! Despite a slight communication delay/mishap with a manager regarding one of the sessions I was teaching, all managers and other employees have been super friendly and helpful with the job. HSA Tutoring has also given me a unique opportunity to take a new perspective on some of my favorite academic and extracurricular interests.

HSA Tutoring is pretty much what you’d expect it to be. The system works well and you meet with bright and kind students. I do often wish there was more interaction between the tutors or in the agency overall—so it feels less solitary and we can meet new people.

HSA is a great company, well organized, and well developed.

There are too many tutors covering the same subject areas, making tutoring opportunities a race to respond first rather than best matching a tutor with a student

Tutors don’t get paid enough, or even competitively, for the amount of experience that we have and work that we do. I was doing college level calculus with someone…that is worth WAY more than $20 and hour. This is especially true considering how much clients are paying for our services - they would probably be shocked to hear that tutors only make $20-$25 of that payment. The improvements to picking up packages (letting it sit for two hours instead of it just being a rat race of who can respond “interested” on their phone the fastest) I think was a great idea, though.

For almost a year now, our daughter (grade 9) has benefited greatly from the HSA service. We consider HSA our partner in her education, enabling us to support her to improve in various subjects – computer science, writing, debate. HSA management is very responsive to our needs, matching us with wonderful Harvard student tutors. They are experts in the subjects, skilled in mentoring, and are clearly dedicated to helping our daughter.

The primary target for HSA tutoring is students coming straight from high school, however, there is a large demographic of professional adults that are taking courses through the Harvard Extended Studies program.

These adults have been professionals in their field for some time and are looking to expand or highlight their current career with ongoing education or switch fields entirely.

This division at Harvard hasn't been developed fully, but the potential is there given the growing amount of HES students that go through the program and pay on average $3,000 - $4,000 per graduate-level course with classes that average 50 students or more total per course. That's roughly $200,000 in generated revenue per course allocated to costs supporting the course such as professor salary etc. After signing up for a graduate-level course any support provided through HSA Tutoring for tutoring 1x a week as an example, throughout a 15-week semester - you will be expected to pay an additional almost 2k upfront on anticipated tutoring hours needed. Any tutoring not used will be reimbursed at the end of the semester, but you must make sure to follow up if this is the case or you will not be reimbursed.

Currently, if you visit the website and are seeking additional support in your academic studies as a professional in your field, your user experience is guided on the site as such: Seeking tutoring for your child... etc. Please note, the admin support, ie. "managers" "coordinators" etc. within HSA are students themselves, so parents or adult professionals be expected that you will be interfacing with students either still living at home with their parents, or on/off campus and are attending school as well. You may need to work your schedule around their academic schedule ( not the other way around ).

This adult professional demographic would benefit from a pool of tutors that had experience supporting working professionals.

If HSA is unable to develop a tutoring program focused on adult professionals, partnership with third-party tutoring programs where professionalism and consistency in services have been verified would be helpful to their students.

My daughter was signed up for an art class. Several times the tutor just didn’t turn up. Not doing that again.

My three kids all took test prep from HSA. Helped calm nerves and provide necessary focus in a stressful part of their teenage years.

The teacher is just ok. He just read everything from the book.

I love HSA Tutoring services!!! Amazing tutors that know their stuff and great communication always.

HSA tutoring is amazing!

Dan did a fantastic job helping my daughter with the SAT. He explained the math section throughly and offered multiple ways to solve every question.
