I was directed towards what I believed was an enhanced DBS check, however when the certificate arrived it was a Basic Certificate which cost me £99.00!! Ridiculous and misleading…

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
I got to their website by accident instead of the official GOV.UK website. They claim to be endorsed by gov.uk and not a scam site but they charge £87 for a DBS check that costs £21 on the official gov.uk website. HRcheck claim the extra £66 is admin charges. Save yourself £66 by going to the official GOV.UK website and avoid these scamsters

Just a legit scam sight , this shouldn’t be legal it is , they scam everyone who tries get a ehanced DBS , no way to really contact them , it’s like they choose what you buy.

I did a Google search on DBS checks and believed it was the Government website. They charge £84 when the official government DBS sight charges £21.50, a considerable markup. I felt this was fraudulent. I looked at Trustpilot and was stunned to see one star reviews almost match positive reviews. I requested to cancel and asked for a refund. They have agreed to refund the money less 25% and VAT. No refund has been issued as yet. Another example of a company that preys on the naivety of customers, a costly mistake.

Easy to reach

I used HRCheck.co.uk because I needed a DBS check and the site presented itself as a government-approved provider.

The buttons and pages advertise Enhanced DBS and offer the choice of INDIVIDUAL or COMPANY. This is where you need to pay way more attention than I did, as if you click on INDIVIDUAL your check becomes BASIC. HR Check know this, as I have a snooty emil informing me that an individual cannot apply for ENHANCED. Since they are fully aware of this, then why the button?

When I went through the process, I was not given a genuine Enhanced check. What was applied for was a Basic DBS.

That matters. In the UK, anyone can apply for a Basic DBS themselves. You do not need an umbrella company. The official Disclosure and Barring Service fee for a Basic check is £21.50 via GOV.UK. I was charged £102.50.The certificate I received looked cheap and poorly printed, as if it had come off a home printer rather than a proper official document. That is what first made me look more closely.

I contacted the Disclosure and Barring Service. They were helpful. They told me HRCheck.co.uk had been listed as my employer, and that Verify Information Service Ltd had applied for a Basic DBS at the official £21.50 rate. I paid £102.50. The DBS team I spoke to were astonished at that charge and are dealing with my complaint.

HRCheck and Verify Information Service Ltd are the same business. The company’s own terms say “Verify Information Service t/a HRcheck”, company number 11961696, registered at Unit 6, Rippleside Commercial Estate, Barking, Essex, IG11 0RJ. That address is also the location of Prontaprint Barking.

So this is what happened in plain terms:

The website markets Enhanced DBS.
The application that went to DBS was Basic.
Basic costs £21.50 from the government and can be done by the individual.
I was charged £102.50.
The company put itself down as my employer.
The certificate I received looked amateurish/fake
The trading name and the limited company are one and the same.

If you need Standard or Enhanced, that normally has to go through an eligible employer or a proper umbrella / Registered Body for a role that is legally eligible, which is what HR Check advertise themselves as on their website. Do not assume a big green “Enhanced” button on a private site means you are getting an Enhanced certificate. They are counting on you not reading the grey text underneath that button, a button that, by their own admittance, should not even be there.

I would not use this company again and I would not recommend it to anyone.

This is a fraud service. Paid 84 pounds for enhanced dbs check service and got a basic certificate which only costs 25 pounds. There are multiple experiences like this and they make sure to not have a mobile way to contact. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE

Great, doing well, usefull

I wanted enhanced DBS. I was charged £90.99 and subscription charges as well and only sent me basic. The basic certificate only cost £20.
I was misguided. I am very disappointed with you.

Excellent service took less than 24 hours when I was expecting it to take a lot longer as I didn’t pay for express service

It was a scam website. It should not be advertised. Use gov not this site!

NOT RELATED TO HMRC.
The algorithm on Google is manipulated to take you to their website which looks IDENTICAL to the government website. What should have cost £21.50 cost me £99.
Somehow this company is still operating so can only assume they are skirting the law with hidden disclaimers.
DO NOT USE THEM. GO DIRECT TO HMRC WEBSITE TO GET THE EXACT SAME SERVICE FOR A REASONABLE PRICE. IT IS NOT QUICKER THROUGH THIS COMPANY. THEY ARE JUST A MIDDLE MAN.

Quick but expensive

Diabolical service & bad customer service. Paid for fast track, to be processed within 24 hours & then 2-3 days delivery. Just had a notification to say it’s been dispatched 5 weeks later. Don’t respond to your emails. Scruffy company scruffy staff

Ridiculously expensive. Poor information on website led to a wrongful DBS check. Do not touch them with a barge pole !

Beware, they have almost no customer service. The phone number that is published on the Internet is a dead number, and 'live' chat doe not work, even during office hours, and the company seems to go to great lenght to avoid contact with their customers!
