Ethical issues?
Was incorrectly overcharged insanely for months because of the HMRC mistake. Wasted ages to call and the person blatantly lied to me “your personal allowance reduction is correct because you earn over 10K a year”. Me: excuse me?! By law is 100K not 10K. She said I’ll transfer your call. I was hung up on. Amazing!

No service at all not worthy of even 1 star but I have to give it. You try and phone and have to listen to numerous recorded messages and at the end of it they cut you off, twice in a row I tried and then gave up. What is the reason simply not enough resource to deal with your call. Considering the amount of income tax I pay plus all the other taxes vat, fuel tax etc etc and you can't even speak to them. Terrible service the HMRC is and the fact it’s a government agent that mandatorily takes half of your earnings, they are TERRIBLE!!!
When you owe money to them it’s easy to collect and they keep adding interest, but to call them to sort out a wrong tax code they’ve given you and enquiremaboutnoverpayment of tax, there is no accountability from any of them.
You first have to wait on the phone for a good hour before you get to speak to someone and most of the time the call disconnects.
Absolutely disgraceful.

Well, what can I say. After eventually finding out who I had to call, I called. After waiting 47 minutes for someone to talk to I got one.
Reason I called was asking why my tax on my pension was so high. The explanation I got was well above my head, so I asked TWICE, for the girl to explain in layman's terms. She spoke to me as though I was stupid. Anyway, got nowhere, your tax dept is an embarrassment and they really don't do anything to help you.
She sounded so fed up as though she did not want to be there.

HMRC - A really appalling service
A really appalling service - being given the run around by different call-handlers telling me to call other number, getting cut off etc. Have spent over 2 hours listening to the music and message. - never told how long I might have to wait or what my position in the queue is. Which politician is accountable for this? Current on my third call as I type this!!!! And how do they constantly get away with it???
And in addition, when they eventually answered they advised me to enter false information. Surely that can't be right! At lest I kept a note of the name.

Today was told at the start of the call the average wait to reach an adviser was 20 minutes … still getting one of these revolving messages every 20 seconds – which are ridiculous when they do not connect you through – gave up after 30 minutes!

Over 45 minutes and still waiting for some one at HMRC to answer the phone again.
It is about time the public can start charging HMRC for their wasted time waiting for them to answer the phone.
If the latest reports are correct and most of the staff are still remote working, Mr Hunt needs to get his department in order and make them go back to the office 5 days a week like the majority of the rest of the workers in this country.

something not right with the hmrc services, when signed in and one click and for some reason you can't go back into your sign in Services I have to come completely out of it ad google hmrc sign in again, my tax code changes by the week not by me, I just am so exasperated with this hmrc we have at the moment, SA help is an hour long to wait. For a public service this is not acceptable.

Spent ages on the phone listening to all the rubbish about www. ......., gave all my personal details, only to be told "we are too busy and can't deal with your call today, goodbye"
Perhaps if they employed people who know, and care about, their jobs they wouldn't make so many mistakes that require the public to call them!

Every single month I ring them about my tax code. In the queue with god awful music them saying your call is important to us....last week had a mam with a cold and kept coughing and snorting with no apologies. He promised me I was on the right tax code and would get a tax refund. Wish I got his name, awful man with no idea how to do his job.
Please put classical music on or say how many we are in the queue this just winds people up.

Once again tried to speak to someone about a query that is not answered by some stupid robot, only to listen to all the bumf about www etc . Taking time to repeat answers every time and getting nowhere. Rang off and thought I will try email, to discover there is no email, can you believe no email! Can,t believe how they operate or dont.

HMRC what a joke
HMRC, if they were a company would be struck off, they give you false advice and hound you for debt that is not due. I have put a complaint in, so far no response. I,m going to get a telephone now that records, so when I call them again will have proof that they do not know what they are doing.
Child Trust
I have been trying for over a year to get two child Trusts registered. It took the Revenue 6 months to answer my original letter. They then sent me four references for 2 Trusts. I queried this and was then sent a letter with two references for me to use. I admit to mislaying this, I was waiting for my grandson to finish some accountancy exams and he was then going to help me. I
I asked the Revenue to reforward the original letter with two references and instead they again sent me a copy of the letter with four references. I phoned yesterday and it took half an hour to get a human voice. I was told that they had not put a copy of their original letter with 2 references on their file. The guy I spoke to was very helpful and gave me the two references I needed over the phone.
This morning my neighbour next door knocked on my door with a letter from the Revenue which had been addressed to the wrong flat! Apart from the wrong address one of the references was wrongly typed.
This has all gone on for over a year!

Beyond Bad
Impossible to get into Govt Gateway account to file tax forms online, because it demands 2 out of Driving License, Passport and Credit Ref and I only have Driving License. They are pushing everyone to submit returns online, but making this impossible for many people!
So I phoned to ask for paper tax returns (and was told to submit online) - eventually got through to a person who said she would send them by post. Sent the wrong Self-Employment form. So I phoned again, asked very clearly for the Short Self Employment form - this time I was sent the Notes for the form but not the form itself. Rang a third time - and was told the deadline for sending out paper Self Employment forms of July 31st had passed (this even though the deadline for submitting the form is 31st October) and I would have to submit the Long (and in my case wrong) Form. A total farce and waste of hours of my time
