Unforgettable
Hero Journey Club has allowed me to build community with others. Through group sessions I feel like I have people to confide in. And people I can connect with outside of group sessions. I feel less alone, and feel very supported. They are always adding new experiences and ideas.
Supportive and helpful format
I lucked out and got matched with a nice, supportive group of people similar to my age and life stage that meets on the weekends. I also really like the format of each meeting where we all get a chance to check in and process our weeks a little bit. I'm a little bummed that my group changed so soon after I joined. I'm hoping for more stability moving forward. Our group doesn't really play games together though you can if you want to. It's a little hard to process meaningfully and play a game at the same time, so I don't mind much. I definitely recommend it for people looking for support without having to go anywhere or be on camera.
Relevant support groups for needs
Relevant support groups for my needs. Good facilitation of groups. Helpful feedback.

Very low-key environment which makes for the perfect amount of comfortability. Really kind therapists and facilitators and a really great environment to talk about mental health and life.
To be seen and heard
I think I was blessed to have a group who’s made me feel heard and seen all the time. Everyone listens to everyone and respectful of their journey.
Not real therapy. Company management is terrible and will make your life more unstable not less.
I have been with HJC for many months. Some of those have been good. The therapists are decent - like all mental health groups there's some that are great fits and some that are poor fits. But the administration is terrible. Genuinely the worst. Here's just a surface list of issues I've encountered in my time there.
Frequent therapist absences, always at the last minute.
Instead of canceling and refunding the sessions without your therapist they try to bring in someone you don't know to lead the sessions like a substitute teacher
Ending whole programs and groups spontaneously without notice, bouncing members and groups around therapists other groups and meeting times due to no fault of the members.
Billing issues are rampant, often charging people for sessions they either canceled or were supposed to have been credited for.
Most recently they moved our therapist to a new position and gave us a new facilitator who was a terrible fit. They gave us no notice, one day our group leader came in and said "this is our last session" and we never heard from them again. When we expressed that the person they chose for us was a bad fit they said they couldn't help our group, they had no replacement for us, and we are currently being left high and dry without a therapy group.
Their entire response has boiled down to "I know we made all these changes to your group and treated you poorly without notice and tried to bill you for it and we have changed your therapist several times because of mistakes on our end but we can't help you. Deal with it."
The therapy itself is only OK. There's a serious issue where they present themselves as hiring mental health caregiving professionals and then try to push for it to be "subclinical". They have surveys for example that they say is to make your sessions better. These surveys are not for your therapist or used to care for you more. They are market research surveys. If you say "I dont know if I feel better." they will use that to end the group you're in. The surveys SOUND like hipaa protected data delivered to ypur mental health care team but because they are "sub clinical" they are not! Anything you say to the company outside of sessions can and will be used against you if you are unhappy - ironically the people who are unhappy need mental health support services the most!
My last complaint is that the sessions are honestly really short. 90 minutes sounds like a lot. But split 6 ways (5 people and saying hello/goodbye) means you're lucky to get 15 minutes to talk. And if you've ever attended a community meeting with checkins at the start (high for the week, low for the week, something you're looking forward to) half the sessions are just that. If anyone in your group is having any sort of distress to sort through (which of they do) you don't get to talk almost at all.
90% of the time they don't even organize group gaming.
All around hjc is a company. You're nothing but a paycheck to them. They will make your life less stable. You will regularly look forward to sessions and leave them disappointed if you even have them at all. Until they realize that no amount of saying "but we are subclinical!" absolves them of their responsibilities towards the mental wellbeing of the clients they claim to serve, I would not go with this company. Doubly so if you suffer from a serious mental health condition. The instability they provide is nothing short of neglect and exploitation of vulnerable populations. They are here to take your money and nothing else.
Helpful Group Support for Depression
I've enjoyed connecting with my group at HeroJourney and am glad I tried it. Recurring depression is a part of my life and the regular group meetings help with managing it. Other groups I've tried it can be difficult to connect with others in and it can be a lot more intense. I like that my group at HeroJourney is open and it's easier to connect since we're all playing a game together. My group counselor is helpful and I enjoy learning new ideas and techniques for managing depression from her.
Give it a try, you won’t regret it!
It’s been great being with others who game and are going through similar situations. My therapist is great and keeps things running smoothly
Group Therapy with Games!
I really enjoy being able to play my favorite games with a group while talking about my struggles. It also helps to hear others struggles and share with a group. The facilitator does an excellent job of prompting the group and giving everyone time to share as well as sharing tools to help with our problems.
working on goals
My goal is to ease myself becoming more social again, with the talk groups it definitely helps me overcome the tied expectations. While i may not say alot its assuring to meet up with people as a support factor. While each session is unique, I find its helping in small way.
A vital service accesible to everyone!
This service seemed too good to be true. $30 therapy group, no insurance required??? But I'm glad I tried it out and I'm really greatful to whoever put this together
I like that our group lead is a licensed counselor. The private Discord server is an addition that is comoletely FREE in addition to the sessions. It's a great place if you need to somewhere to chat, share or vent in a supportive, judgement-free zone.
One area for improvement is better criteria to group people together. I like my group, but it would be nice to focus on more specific issues.
Overall, I look forward to my session every week and find myself doing better mentally and emotionally in daily life.
Great for Group Therapy
I am really happy I joined Hero Journey. The group I was placed in are all very sweet people and have helped me through some tough times. It was easy to skip a session with no charge (done before three days of the next session). If you are looking for something to ease you into therapy, I would say Hero Journey is a great choice.

Awesome
Helps with feeling supported knowing that your group members don't change. Definitely feel more comfortable coming back every week.
Love the concept.
Love the concept of utilizing video games in a therapeutic setting! There’s some good variety in the different groups & the practitioners put in a lot of effort to be supportive. You can meet & play with some other members out of sessions too!
Great Group Therapy
I’ve enjoyed gaming and group therapy with similar young men who all have made excellent comments, led by a compassionate, patient, and experienced group therapist.
Amazing!
My group is really supportive and amazing! Get some good feedback and feel way less alone in my journey.
My group is great
My group is great. The person that leads the group is great as well.
