Great Southern Bank Arvostelua 

Tried to get funds urgently transferred for the settlement of a property. Ended up wasting a day dealing with untrained Muppets who have no idea what they're doing. Went into the branch and was initially told by a junior staff member that they couldn't transfer to an external bank and that I needed to do it myself and increase my daily limit which needed special manager approval because of the sum involved. Then was told the approval couldn't be done immediately because it was Monday and the manager was busy in meetings. In the end after I started dealing with someone else it turns out I could do an inter-bank transfer after all!!!

When I tried to sign up for an Everyday Edge account but after I completed the application they automatically denied my application so I wouldn't waste your time with this ridiculous bank. I would recommend sticking to ANZ.

I've had the worst customer experience with this bank. They sucked me in on high paying savings accounts, but the customer service, hold waiting times and made-up rules and policies are just awful! They treat their customers like absolute garbage, customer service reps tell you consistently the wrong information and are rude. A fast payment PayID system that doesn't work, blocks payments because their system thinks its fraud, and then unable to make any further payments because the "daily limit" has been hit even though no money has actually left the accounts. Trying to get all my money out of this bank now, close the accounts and never look back. But they need to "approve" me taking my own money out of my account by having to request limit payments to get my money out. Told the limit will be valid for 24 hours, but it reset at midnight. How is a customer supposed to navigate this bank when their own staff don't know how anything works. Beyond bad! Be warned and stay away!!!!

I've dealt with many banks and Great Southern Bank are by far the worst. I opened a saver account and deposited $10k into it. Unfortunately as my circumstances had changed within a few days, I had to withdraw all of the money. I transferred $5k into my other account on a Sunday night (no problem) but when I transferred the other $5k out on Monday morning, it was blocked as GSB believed it was fraudulent. I called them and they said they would look into it. I then received an SMS to say GSB need to do a further identity check and I need to go into one of their branches. Not only that they blocked me from the app. I called GSB to say I didn't have the time to go to the branch as I work Mon-Fri and they are not open on Saturday. They said I had no other choice so I took time out of work to go there. I went to a local branch and provided a copy of my ID only to be said further checks were required as my account was blocked (I was able to access my accounts the next day). The time I had to waste in making phone calls and going to a branch when I didnt have the time was absolutely ridiculous. Will close my accounts and never deal with them again.

Their response time to account member messages online is ridiculous. Disgusting. Attempted to change my current account to different type because they give that option, then when I did I got a totally new account! I did not want that! I also need a new card (visa debit) and pin for my original account. No reply to sent messages. Very poor.

I was widowed in early June 2022. My husband was American and back in America when he was killed in a road accident. I received a pension cheque from a government agency over there. Depositing this cheque, I had to drive to Maroochydore (Qld), two hours south of where I live, as my branch office is now closed. I deposited the cheque on the 7th of November, 2022. I was told it would take four business weeks for it to clear. It did not. Checking The Great Southern Bank online about international cheque deposits, it said it takes six weeks. No cheque was deposited. Next I phoned the bank and received a return call from the bank manager. She was very nice and informed me that it could take up to eight weeks?? Well, the eight weeks are up, and as of the 9th of January, I still do not have my money.
I phoned the Maroochydore office again today. The lady who answered informed me that the clearance of the cheque depended on the American bank it came from.. and that it could take more time???
I lived and worked as a professional on the east coast of the U.S.A., and I know that they are on the mark with how they do business. So, I do not believe this. I have since discovered that Bendigo bank also accepts international cheques for deposit, and they have assured me they take twenty-eight business days for the money to be in my account. I expect another cheque and will not deposit this one into G.S. bank. How can one bank give a better service than another bank????

I received our letter stating the closure of our local Morayfield branch. I rang twice to request answers as to why and was hung up on both times. So I attended my branch on Friday to Withdraw all my money and asked the lovely employees where they would now be working (as it was stated these staff would be relocated to other areas) only to find out these people are now Umeployed!!! What a disgrace! Now yr forcing me as a Veteran PTSD sufferer with severe anxiety to battle the Bruce Highway to travel 25+ minutes (depending on crashes and traffic) to be only able to use the nearest branch at Northlakes? I will be looking for a New Bank one that doesn’t lie to its customers!

I just moved to Australia from Denmark and wanted to open up a bank account. I entered Australia on a partner visa. I went to Great Southern Bank and received "help" from Charley Dixon. She didn't know how to open a bank account, so she sought help. I filled out a bunch of forms and she took my ID and said I could expect a few days until everything was setup. More than a week later after not having heard a thing from them, I call Great Southern Bank and ask them for an update where I am told that they don't open bank accounts for people on my visa. I was also told by the lady on the phone that she could see my application had been denied. The fact that I haven't been told upfront when I first entered the bank that they couldn't help me and then I have to wait for so long without hearing from them, even when they are sitting with the result of my application. The service level I received is a joke and extremely unprofessional. Maybe we just have high standards where I'm from, but come on!

Great Southern Bank is the worst Australian bank ever and they should be closed down by ASIC. They will take your money and rip you off at every possible opportunity. They have absolutely no morality or common decency. Never ever bank with these people unless you want to be bitterly disappointed and upset.
