The bank that just keeps on giving. If you run a business through this bank be prepared for the following: Any one of your customers who are not happy with something can put a fraudulent claim against your business and dispute the transaction. GSB policy when dealing with these complaints is to take the complaint so sericously that they close access to your account without any consultation. So NO MONEY IN AND NO MONEY OUT. So the complaint might be for $1000 and your business might have $100,000 in it. They will FREEZE YOUR ENTIRE ACCOUNT. That was a fun time, 3pm on an Thursday afternoon before Easter and you are trying to complete your payroll. FUN TIMES.

NOW - similiar scenario. We have a debit Visa card allocated to our Business Account. For those of you who do not know how a Visa Debit Card works. Only amounts that can be covered by the money currently sitting in your account can be used. Let me repeat that for the hard of hearing - Only amounts that can be covered by the money currently sitting in your account can be used. So apparently you are not allowed to spend more than $9900 on your Visa Debit Card that has a much larger balance than that. So HOW THE HELL ARE WE SUPPOSED TO RUN A BUSINESS AND PAY FOR BASIC THINGS - AIR FARES, ACCOMMODATION AND THE LIST GOES ON.

I have never had any of these issues when it was CUA. GSB can suck eggs. If you are looking for a financial institute to work with you and help you grow your business. DONT USE Great Southern Banking because there is NOTHING great about them. Rant over, accounts being closed.

Had an account for over 5 years with no…

Had an account for over 5 years with no issues.
Received an inbound Osko payment, The payer reported that the outbound payment was fraudulent even though the payment had been made directly from that Payer's online account using 2fA and being confirmed on my end in person.
MY account was locked and I was interrogated as to where all my money comes from and why I was receiving Osko/Payid payments into my account....

Let me repeat, I received a normal payment and my account was flagged as fraudulent and was locked, I had no access to my account until I called and answered their intrusive questions.....

I complained 4 times and was ignored until I threatened to take the complaint to the AFCA, Here is the response I received via email;

Thank you for raising your complaint regarding your account being frozen after receiving an Osko payment, and you state the check for suspicious activity review was unjustified and that staff treatment was intrusive and unnecessary.



Great Southern Bank has completed an investigation into your complaint and has reached the following outcome:



Our Investigation



In accordance with our regulatory obligations and the provisions of our Terms and Conditions, we may temporarily restrict access to banking services where we reasonably suspect fraudulent, unlawful, or suspicious activity, or where an investigation is required to protect you, other customers, or the Bank.



Our records show that a fraud report was received in relation to activity on your account. As a precautionary measure, your Online Banking access was temporarily blocked on 5 May 2026 at 3:37 pm while the matter was reviewed. During this time, your card access remained available, and your account was not fully frozen. Following your discussion with our Financial Crime Team on 6 May 2026, the required review was completed, and the Online Banking restriction was removed at 10:07 am the same day.



These measures are designed to protect our customers and the banking system when potential fraud concerns are identified. While we understand the questions asked during the review may have felt intrusive, they were necessary to verify account activity and ensure the security of your account.

We are sorry to hear that your interactions left you feeling as though your honesty was being questioned. This was not our intention, and we regret the impact this experience has had on your confidence in us. We also apologise if your previous attempts to contact us did not receive a timely acknowledgement or response.

How would I have known that my card access had not been locked as I could not log in to online banking to see my account balances?

BE careful anyone that has any funds in GSB as they can lock and disallow access to your funds at any time at the whim of staff or an upset payer.

I will be removing my funds to a trustworthy Bank at first possible opportunity and I urge anyone elde with an account balance to do the same

Closing all accounts at GSB but that's not easy

I still have one term deposit account in GSB and will be closing it at maturity. I uploaded a completed Term Deposit Action Request on the GSB online website to close the account and send the funds to an external account but one week later, the online system is yet to show that. Last year I had the same trouble closing a GSB account . I also tried to send $4,000 to myself in an external account. It blocked that, then unblocked it. So I tried to send it again and it said sorry you are over your daily limit. It included the blocked/unblocked one. I called GSB customer service and whilst the officer agreed with me its crazy could not do anything to change it. So I had to wait till the next day to do it. What should be easy to do has become difficult at GSB, that's why I'm closing all my accounts there.

Would not use Great Southern Bank…

Would not use Great Southern Bank Business. I forgot my customer number after I accidentally deleted the welcome email.
5 weeks later I still can not access my accounts at their customer service is email or chat only with no calls.
Their Non business accounts can take call but they are overseas (outside Australia) call center and are always unable to help.

Avoid Great Southern Bank

Avoid Great Southern Bank. There is no Customer service. They deliberately attack Customers and make false reports to credit reporting bodies. They have no ethics or morals. There's no accountability and no rationale for billing.

Car Loan Fail

What a disappointing experience.
I have a great credit rating but was declined without any explanation.
I requested an appeal and got a very blunt email saying that their decision is final.
I would not recommend them.

Misleading onboarding and poor communication

Applied for a business transaction account after seeing online that I could “apply and be banking in 5 minutes.”

In reality, the application took considerable time, and after several hours with no update I contacted support. Without my request, my enquiry was escalated as a complaint.

The following day, my application was declined with no explanation or prior communication.

Very disappointing experience. The onboarding process does not reflect what was advertised, and the lack of transparency makes it difficult to trust the service.

Deceitful & unprofessional

I have been with this group for 40 years & have seen many changes, but their decision to close bonus savings accounts & not notify customers is reprehensible, deceitful & unprofessional. Do NOT bank with them!!! I am now moving my money out & will happily close my accounts.

Do NOT get a cc from this bank

Since my cc was transferred from citibank to gsb last year i have been unable to use it.
Gsb cannot provide paper statements. They cannot provide email statements.
I cannot use the app since in order to logon they need to send a pin number to my phone and it does not arrive.
Customer service cannot tell me why.
I have no way of finding out my balance except via phone call and a special request. With time spent in a queue and the extra verification steps required due to the inability to send an OTP this will cost me 20 dollars each time.
I am stuck overseas with no way of buying a plane ticket online. ( No otp arrives).
I cannot stress how appalling the service from this bank is.

i wish there was option of negative reviews

i wish there was one in negative - absolutely pathetic . I filled up application for a car loan and saved it as i didnt have all the documents to upload . The System Error just submitted the application and i did get a declined email . My Credit rating is excellent, i was not only surprised but extremely frustrated and when i called they failed to disclose why it got rejected ??JUST RUN AWAY FROM THIS BANK.

My son applied for a personal loan roughly 4 weeks ago and have received no information even though it says 24 - 48 hours approval. We called after a week and a half and we're told it hadn't been processed. The lady assured us it would be escalated but we still have not heard anything. It's very inconvenient being without a car awaiting finance that should have been processed weeks ago

Serious security failures and appalling customer treatment
Great Southern Bank allowed a fraudulent account to be opened in my name using a stolen copy of my driver’s licence. That alone demonstrates a deeply concerning failure in their ID verification and security processes.
What followed was even worse.
Across three separate calls to customer service, I was given different and contradictory information each time about whether I could speak to the fraud team, what information could be provided, and what steps were being taken. There was no ownership, no consistency, and no sense that anyone was actually advocating for me as the victim of identity theft.
On the final call, the customer service attendant was openly rude — sighing, attempting to cut me off mid-sentence, refusing to escalate the matter or transfer me to a supervisor or the fraud team, and repeatedly saying things like “I’ve been trying to tell you for five minutes”. I was told that “fraud won’t speak to you” and that they “can’t do anything”, full stop. Based on the attitude and dismissiveness, I have no confidence that my case was ever properly raised or advocated internally.
What makes this even more unreasonable is that all I was asking for — on behalf of police — was the phone number and email address attached to the account opened in my own name. I can fully verify my identity and have all required ID. The police are now forced to seek a warrant, which takes time, and banks then take days to comply — during which time the email and phone details linked to the fraudulent account will likely be changed or discarded, undermining the investigation.
In effect, Great Southern Bank enabled identity fraud and then actively obstructed the victim, while shielding the person stealing my identity.
If you value your personal information, security, or being treated with basic respect when something goes wrong, do not bank here.

The worst bank ever where do I start…

The worst bank ever where do I start I've. BEEN LOCKED OUT OG MY ACCOUNTS FOR A WEEK NOW STILL NO EXPLANATION WHY PHONED THEM ABOUT ALL I GET THERES NOTHING THE CUSTOMER SUPPORT CAN DO ABOUT AND KEEP TELLING ME SOMEONE WILL CONTACT ME ABOUT IT SO 5 CALLS LATER I'VE TOLD TO TRANSFER MY MONEY TO MY DAUGHTERS ACCOUNT AND CLOSE ANY ACCOUNTS WITH THEM NOW BEEN TOLD IT TAKE UP TO A WEEK FOR THEM TO DO IT ITS ALREADY BEEB A WEEK WITH. O MONEY GIT TILL TOMORROW TO PAY RENT OR I HAVE TO LEAVE HAVEN'T EATEN FOR 2 DAYS GOING ONTO THIRD DAY AND THEY EMAILED WHOEVER PUT THE LOCK ON .MY ACCOUNT CAN THEY HURRY IT UP A BIT SO I CAN EAT AND PAY RENT OT TO MENTION I HAVE BEEN SAVING TO GET A SMALL BUSINESS LOAN BUT MISSED OUT BECAUSE I COULDN'T SHOW MY STATEMENTS OR PUT THE DEPOSIT ON A INDUSTRIAL SITE TO START MY NEW BUSINESS S I BY THE TIME THEY SORT IT OUT I WILL BE HOMELESS JOBLESS AND STZRVI G TO DEATH BUT AT LEAST SOMEONE GOT TO SEND A EMAIL PATHETIC WASTE OF SPACE THIS BANK ALL THEY ARE ARE OXYGEN THEIVES

Unfortunately I no longer feel I could…

Unfortunately I no longer feel I could recommend this bank.
I have been a customer since 1994. Personal Loans in the past & now a Home Loan.
I found them to be mostly quite good until they became Great Southern Bank (Formerly Credit Union Australia). After the change they began closing branches that were convenient. Now I don't believe there are any apart from Kent St In NSW.
Unfortunately the performance of their online banking platform is absolutely abysmal. Many times I've been unable to perform basic banking tasks due to timeouts. Last Tuesday (25th Nov) the online portal was completely down for a time in the morning.
The outage prompted me to look into my Home Loan interest rate and make market comparisons.
It turns out I've been paying more than a full 1% more than the market norm for the type of loan I have. I contacted GSB to see what they were willing to offer me as a log term customer. Was hoping for them to meet the comparisons I had made. They weren't interested in doing that. GSB made what I would consider to be an insulting offer to move me across to one of their standard Home Loans and only offered to waive $100 of the $300 change fee.
Of course its my responsibility to make sure I'm getting the best rate possible. But you would think a bank that cares about it's customers would advise that they have retired a home loan and make sure the customer is moved to the most recent product at a competitive rate.
This bank does care about customer loyalty or even about their customers at all really.
Circumstances prevent me from moving my Home Loan to another financial service provider until Late January but when that time comes I am gone from the horrendous bank.
