Abram Phiri - an arrogant mess! I hired a car via Economy Car Rentals and was given a Europcar voucher after securing the online booking by making a deposit with my debit card.
I emailed Europcar head office to enquire whether I could use my debit card when fetching the car to settle the remainder of the payment and EUROPCAR assured me that so long as it's the same card I used to secure the payment, which in my case was a debit card.
When I went to Europcar I was refused collection for not having a credit card until I showed them my email. They called Europcar and i was put through to a rude, dismissive, impolite, unprofessional Europcar consultant called Abram Phiri. During my explanation he cut me and interjected, " so what do you want from me? I'll simply repeat what they're telling you there." I asked for his name and repeated "Abraham." "Abram. I'm not Abraham!!!" He scolded. Plus I had to request his surname. Such an impolite appalling customer service!!!

My experience with Europcar was terrible. Got to agency to find out that my waiver on rental wasn't the "super" waiver, therefore a deposit of R15000 had to be paid. Having paid R4000 for a week's rental for a 1.6 Sedan, I just couldn't afford so much money.

No refund was even considered. Cape Town International agency left me high and dry and I had to go next door to rent another car.

Many e-mails later.... still no reimbursement.

We rented a car thru Europcar South Africa in Feb 2020. Although the car hire experience itself was good regarding car itself and front facing personnel, the poor score above is due to a negative post hire experience regarding a fine administration fee payment. It took 10 emails to find out the reason why it could not be debited to credit card provided, to then find out that they do NOT have an on-line payment facility to settle the bill with a different credit card. Their solution was a bank transfer, which would cost more in additional fees than the amount payable, as we are based in Europe.

This week I rented a car for a day. I picked it up at Pretoria Hatfield and brought it back at OR Tambo. Although it was really early in the morning (5 am) there was a polite gentleman who I could give the keys to. I had to catch my flight at 8:15 am and because the delivery of the car was so quick I already passed security around 6 am. Around that time I received a phone call from Europcar that I forgot my house keys in the car. An amazingly kind employee brought my keys to the security and arranged that my keys were brought back to me. Great service and I'm really grateful for the quick and amazing solution.
