Car hire was extended after Bidvest covered 1x week
paid dep of R2500 and addditonal R35 per day for windscreen and tyre protection. had car for total 12 days -was informed daily rate is R296 which was taken off my account each time i extended hire. Car was returned with full tank and no problems. Informed that refiund wpould take 10 days. Received invoice whereby they charged vat on the 12 days hire and vat on insurance which was never communicated to me. spoke to my contact at Europcar OR Tambo that dealt with me throughout the 12 days, he claims total amount was deducted which included vat. My query has been escalated today to SOMEONE, further delaying my refund. As per their records after additional charges for airport surcharge and doc administration my refund is only R718.00 what a rip off. Waiting to hear from them. Please beware if you plan on using them

As a conscientious traveler, I'm compelled to share my harrowing experience with Europcar Rental, an ordeal that left me not only frustrated but downright flabbergasted by their deceptive practices and lack of professionalism. Here's my candid review:

Deceptive Practices:
Europcar's website promises transparency and competitive rates, but don't be fooled. What appears to be a straightforward booking process quickly devolves into a labyrinth of hidden fees and sneaky charges. Upon arrival to pick up my reserved vehicle, I was blindsided by unexpected insurance fees, fuel surcharges, and "optional" add-ons that more than doubled the initially quoted price. It's a classic bait-and-switch tactic that left me feeling duped and disheartened.

Unprofessionalism:
The level of incompetence and disregard for customer service at Europcar is staggering. From the disorganized rental counters to the untrained staff, every interaction reeked of unprofessionalism. Representatives were dismissive of my concerns, displaying a blatant lack of empathy or accountability for the company's misleading practices. It's as if they were trained to prioritize upselling over providing a positive customer experience.

Rudeness:
If you enjoy being spoken to condescendingly and treated like an inconvenience, Europcar is the rental agency for you. Throughout the entire process, I encountered nothing but rudeness from staff members who seemed more interested in pushing unnecessary upgrades than assisting customers with genuine care and respect. It's disheartening to witness such blatant disrespect in an industry that relies heavily on customer satisfaction.

Scammy Behavior:
Let's call a spade a spade – Europcar engages in downright scammy behavior. Whether it's tacking on dubious charges or pressuring customers paying for damages that were never there, their business model thrives on exploiting unsuspecting travelers. It's a disgraceful display of corporate greed that tarnishes the reputation of the entire car rental industry in South Africa.

In conclusion, my experience with Europcar Rental was nothing short of a nightmare. From start to finish, I was subjected to deceptive practices, unprofessionalism, rudeness, and outright scammy behavior. Save yourself the headache and opt for a reputable rental agency that values honesty and integrity. Europcar, you've lost my business for good.

NEVER rent a car with those people ! Like a lot people here, I struggled to get back my deposit of 590€.
I rent a car just for one day, everything went fine, I gave back the car at the right day, right time, full tank and without accident or scratch (all confirmed by the europcar agent when he checked the car at return). But 9h later, I received an email saying they found a scratch after second checking by their « inspector » and asked for explanation (I can tell that the picture they sent are not relative at all with the car).
After putting them in front of facts, proving them this is not the car I rent and there was no accident and making them aware of all these bad reviews complaining about the same scamming practice, they didn’t reply anymore. They just sent the same day a final invoice saying that the money will be refunded on the credit car (minus a document fee of R132 out of nowhere). This was the 25th of April 2024, the 3rd May 2024 still no money on my account. I asked why, and they replied that they have processed the payment the 2nd of May 2024 (really!? like a week after they have sent the invoice, is that normal!!??).
Today still no money…

The 7th of May 2024, I finally received the refund after multiple emails and comments on social medias.

NEVER book with this company, never give up fighting for your deposit back and don’t hesitate to start a higher step to denounce this shameful practice.

Awful company, every employee is corrupt, we still need to get the 600 euro deposit back from 5 months ago, been mailing back and forth, but the whole europcar company is corrupt. Best not to do business with this company, they WILL rob you of your money.

The worst service ever…my insurance company booked a car for me in December 2023 and everything went well I returned the car on time now in April I get a call from debt collectors that I owe Europcar R180.00 which I was never told and now my credit rating is going down because of them

Wir haben im September 2023 bei Europcar am OR TAMBO ein Auto gebucht. Die Dame am Empfang sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Während der Reise keine Probleme gehabt, das Auto wurde vollgetankt und OHNE KRATZER! zurückgegeben. Die Rückgabe verlief problemlos, alles war okay. Nun im März 2024 wurde die Kreditkarte mit 20 Euro belastet, begründet mit batch... was soll das??? Email an Europcar seit fast 2 Wochen nicht beantwortet! Man stelle sich vor, wieviel Buchungen bei Europcar werden nach 6 Monaten nachträglich nochmals zur Kasse gebeten... für NICHTS!! FAZIT...NEVER EVER!

Nie wieder Europcar Kapstadt, uns wurde verweigert in den Motorraum zu schauen, die Vorderreifen waren abgefahren, der Startknopf hing und e-Toll wurde berechnet, obwohl wir keine e-Toll Straßen benutzt haben. Abzocke ! Wir warten auf Stellungnahme, keine Antwort.

Wir übernahmen in Kapstadt den Wagen ich als Fahrer meine Frau stellte mit ihrer Kreditkarte die Kaution.Rückgabe in East London.Dann 1std Flug Übernahme des nächsten Wagens in Durban . Plötzlich würde die Kreditkarte meiner Frau die wir eherechtlich gemeinsam im Urlaub nutzten nicht mehr akzeptiert.
Eine Kaution in Cash wurde nicht akzeptiert.
Ein Umschreiben des Haupt Fahrers würde verwehrt da nicht wir sondern unsere planende Reiseargentur den Vertrag abschloss.Es war So und wir könnten in Europa keinen erreichen.
Das arrogante Verhalten seitens Europ Car war unbeschreiblich.
Wir buchten einen anderen Wagen neu und nicht bei Europcar.
ACHTUNG buchen sie bei Europcar Südafrika keinen Wagen sollten sie irgendwelche Probleme haben wird ihnen seitens der Firma NICHT geholfen

Avoid using Europcar king Shaka airport as they will refuse refund your deposit .

I collected Toyota Corolla (white colour)on 4th Feb/24 and returned it on 27th Feb/24 & paid deposit of £511 which is R11 800 , before took car from Europcar it had few scratches which I took on video. When returned car it had no dents or scratches , they checked it & their staff said it was fine & about 15 minutes when making my way to check in my luggage their staff came looking for me & called me back to said car had private repairs to left rear door & he claimed there was slightly different in colour - white. I asked him to show me dents or scratches but he could not show me that.

It’s now 3 weeks and they refuse to refund my deposit due to their false claims which they have not provided evidence for. My extra insurance I took said they cannot pay where there is no damage to the car.

I & my family will never use them again as they will do everything to scam your deposit & they will make u pay for damages caused by other people. I have sent several emails to them and phoning them but yet my deposit still not refunded & they have failed to provided concrete evidence/ proof for false claim.

Après avoir retenue la caution (somme très importante) plus de 12 jours, on m'a retenu plus du quart du prix de la location sans aucune explication alors que la voiture a été rendue dans le même état, et que le plein a été fait à environ 1 km de l'aéroport. Cette expérience est malheureusement très fréquente chez Europcar cap town airport, il suffit de lire les avis des clients qui sont majoritairement négatifs. Je ne comprends pas pourquoi Europcar ne change pas d'attitude. Je ne louerai plus chez Europcar, et pas seulement au cap town.

Am 6.2. habe ich meinen Mietwagen am Flughafen in Cape Town für 13 Tage übernommen. Dabei wurde eine Kaution in Höhe von ZAR 11620 auf meiner Kreditkarte geblockt( wurde so gesagt!). Bei Einsicht meines Kontos stellte ich später fest, dass der Betrag in € auf meinem Konto am gleichen Tag belastet wurde! Habe so etwas noch nie erlebt. Auf der Fahrt von Paarl nach Hermanus hat leider der Motor gestreikt, an der großen Kreuzung in Somerset West ging es nicht mehr weiter. Nach meiner tel. Schadensmeldung bei EUROPCAR erhielt ich über die Niederlassung in Strand ein sehr gutes Ersatzfahrzeug. Soweit so gut, aber auf die Rückzahlung der Kaution warte ich bis heute, obwohl mir bei der Rückgabe in Kapstadt versichert wurde: alles okay, das wird sofort erledigt!!!

Der Service am Schalter war enttäuschend, die erste Frage: Kreditkarte bitte, erst als ich mich weigerte und den Mann erklärte sich den Vertrag anzuschauen brauchte ich die Kreditkarte nicht mehr geben. Dafür bekam ich das kleinste Auto, es ist enttäuschend was man bei Europcar für 62 €/ Tag bekommt.
Ich weiß nicht wie in das Auto 5 Personen sitzen sollen, plus 3 Koffer, denn das ist die Klasse die gebucht wurde. Ich bin bei Europcar Privileg Elite Kunde, aber davon merkt man nichts. Ich habe mich bei Europcar beschwert. Die Reaktion von Europcar Kapstadt Airport war, dass ich bei der Reservierung mein Status nicht abgegeben hätte und das sie derzeit viel zu tun hätten. Als Kompensation würde sie mein Wagen eine Kategorie runter stufen. Aber keine Entschuldigung von der verantwortlichen Person.

Very rude person at the counter in port Elizabeth on Saturday 10/2/2024 at 07h40. Rather early for someone to be rude. He put me off hiring a car!!! Will not recommend Eurocar to anyone if that is how one gets treated.

My name is Tshepiso Ighelogbo and I have a question about how Europa Cars does business. In terms of Termination of contracts because my mom has been with this company for almost 2 years and they are just Terminating her contracts after she paid for last month, out of the blue. They say it's because she exceeded her "miles" which I found ridiculous because she always has to pay extra money every month because some new "issue" arises and I'm sorry but this screams scam to me and I will not rest until I get to the bottom of this.
