5 stars – excellent service
We recently went through an environmental permit variation application and I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the excellent support we received from Jeanette Ringham at the Environment Agency.
Jeanette was extremely helpful, professional and patient throughout the application process. Whenever further information or amendments were required, she explained clearly what was needed and gave us the opportunity to provide the correct information.
The permitting process can be quite detailed and complicated, but her guidance and communication made it much easier for us to understand what was required and progress our application successfully.
I would also like to thank James Lidgett and the wider Permitting Team for their assistance.
we are very grateful for the professional and supportive service we received throughout.
Thank you Jeanette and the Environment Agency Permitting Team for all your help.

Nothing more................................................................
A Failure of an organisation
An organisation without purpose or efficacy. Local people have been reporting smells from a local rendering factory for years without any action being taken by the EPA. The issue has a severe impact on the communities wellbeing and health but polluters can afford to arrogantly dismiss the problem due to non intervention. In the end the problem was created by government, its time government solved it.
Utterly useless
Utterly useless, the environment agency have left an abandoned boat to sink and spew out oil and litter into the river Nene near Northampton town centre for nearly an entire year after it has been reported to them countless times. The only action they have taken is to slap a "we are aware" sticker on the side of the sunken boat and then call it a day. Complete joke of an agency.
this agency tried to prosecute a guy…
this agency tried to prosecute a guy for doing better job than them
Incompetent quango.
Incompetent quango.
One story this week that said it all...
A campaigner cleaning up the River Roding was reportedly threatened with prosecution by the Environment Agency for not having a permit.
All while that same ‘regulator’ is practically throwing out permits to water companies so they can dump sewage into our rivers and seas. 🤬
So the people giving up their time to care for our rivers face investigation, while consistently polluting companies are legally permitted to dump sewage in our waters? 🫠
Surfers Against Sewage
Inept attitude and lack of action
There seems to be a systematic breakdown of what you guys are doing, absolutely nothing. Stop the flow of sewage stop the inept processes of doing nothing to clean up our very precious water supplies do your job.
See Dirty Business Channel 4
A Criminally corrupt Environment Agency.
I recall the Hoads Wood dumping scandal where over 30,000 tonnes of illegal, hazardous waste dumped in a protected Kent woodland. The Environment Agency were contacted numerous times but turned a blind eye. Its only one of several dumping scandals involving the Environment Agency. Hoads Wood will take over 100 years to recover.
Much of the Country are now watching Dirty Business. It has brought home the fact that that the Environmental Agency are the biggest Criminal Enterprise on British soil. They have no regard for the environment nor the people that inhabit it. The program showed they are in the pockets of those they are supposed to inspect. They have been aided and abetted by Tory and Labour Governments.
Its also clear that this is a far bigger scandal that than the Post Office affecting virtually every person in the UK.
There is no question that prosecutions should follow but like those at the Post Office the Environment Agency are protected by Government. Absolutely shameful. Morally corrupt as well as criminally corrupt.

Watch Channel 4 Dirty business (airing on 23, 24 and 25th February 2026). All about the pollution of our water ways by water companies dumping raw sewage into them and the Environment Agency being complicit in all of it. Despicable disgusting SHAM OF AN AGENCY.
A dysfunctional
A dysfunctional, incompetent organisation who investigates its self hides the truth and pats itself on the back for allowing serious uncontrolled pollution of our land and watercourses. Complain after complaint, promises after promises, nothing is done. Helen Wakeman, resign you are not up to the job nor are your team
What a useless agency but
What a useless agency but, it is run by the government so what can you expect?i had a bill from them for a land drainage charge even though they do nothing to help me in that department,so i went on their site for payment by card, which doesn't have a dedicated number for paying by card🤬all i got was numbers for people who work for them🤬so rung this other number and was told this wasn't for payments even though it said it was🤬was told to ring the previous number and just press any number to get through to payments🤬what a convoluted job just to pay a bill no wonder the country is in a mess🤬
They just take reports but then ignore them..
EA are not fit for purpose, reported a number of trees in the River Itchen between Woodmill lane & the Mansbridge Rd Bridge A27 Southampton but no action taken.
All summer free swimmers & kayakers struggle to pass them & the water flow is slowed.
Yet another failing Government department.
Thank you ALL who work for the Environment Agency
Unlike other negative reviews on here, our 1st hand experience with the EA has been extremely positive! We live alongside a brook the Alt river flows into, the EA have been carrying out necessary works needed since June so yes we've experienced a certain amount of disruption. But we cannot fault the amount of help/advice/support we've received from the area manager Leo Batty & the on site manager Harry, not forgetting the sheer amount of respect the lovely lad's carrying out this difficult work have shown us. In our humble opinion we should ALL be extremely grateful to the EA & all who work for them because they are doing an amazing job!
Carl Ingram GDPR BRECH dangerous man.
When this quango fails it takes…
When this quango fails it takes…
When this quango it takes…
When that quango fails it takes others to get possitive action taken against water companies.
Last week, a landmark new law came into effect that could see water company bosses face up to two years in prison for illegal sewage spills. [1] After years of tireless campaigning by 38 Degrees supporters - alongside many others - this is a major step forward in tackling the sewage scandal.
You should feel incredibly proud of the part you’ve played in making this happen.
But we know this new law alone won’t fix everything wrong with the water system.
That’s why, last week, more than 28,000 of us gave feedback to the Government’s big water consultation. In partnership with Surfers Against Sewage, we submitted evidence to the Independent Water Commission - laying bare the overwhelming public dissatisfaction with the state of our water industry. [2] Our message was clear: the system is broken, and we need sweeping reforms that put people and the planet before profit.
And we didn’t stop there.
Because decades of privatisation have failed both us and the environment, Clive Lewis MP - supported by 38 Degrees and Compass - handed in our petition, backed by over 113,000 of us, calling for public ownership of water to be put back on the table. [3]
All of this proves that together, we are building real momentum for change. There’s still a long way to go to clean up our rivers and seas and build a better water system that works for everyone - but thanks to your support, we’re heading in the right direction.
Property never been flooded but according to them it's high risk!
Would have been zero, but for the software wouldn't allow it. These clowns have my property as a hihh flood risk on their confusing website. Many houses are in a flood plain according to their data, which is not true. My property is not and has never been flooded and I'm nowhere near any water. After 6 months of arguing they agreed their website is wrong but wouldn't be able to update their website due to cost. Instead they sent me a letter telling any interested parties my property was NOT in a flood plain. But 3 mortgage companies use the data from the EA so I was turned down by all three. Terrible experience and many other householders will suffer same fate, so check your household now. You will be shocked!
Not fit for purpose..
.. and hasn't been for many years. Another totally unaccountable, ineffective, inefficient public sector body. Now exposed for what they are by the water company scandal. Needs a total, top-down reorganisation.
Environment Agency employees Steve and…
Environment Agency employees Steve and Robert at Barmby barrage were extremely helpful knowledgeable and the facilities at and around the mooring at Barmby on the Marsh were immaculate and exceptional.
