I’d like to give zero stars but that’s not an option.
Eleven months ago we purchased our 2018 Landrover Discovery from DRIVEN OF YORK.
In December 2024 whilst collecting out severely disabled son from school the automatic gear box failed leaving us stranded. We made attempts to contact the dealership for support however they diminished any element of responsibility offering no support, good will or any level of empathy, leaving us with no other option but to pay for the repair ourselves costing in total £5500. Not but two days later after the gear box repair the cars turbo failed on the motorway leaving myself stranded with my disabled son. Further contact was made with the dealer to request some assistance with no avail. Leaving us with a further bill of £2500. Since this repair we have been advised by the repairing garage that the turbo failure has caused damage to the engine requiring a full engine replacement.
Now £8000 in and with £400 a month in car finance we are left with nothing more than an expensive garden ornament and no way to transport our son.
We are aware what the legal requirements are in terms of warranty however nobody expects to buy a car from what is assumed to be a reputable dealer to be left in this position.
Driven of York from our own painful experience are clearly retailing sub-standard cars. As a family we would hate for anyone else to experience something similar and stress people should avoid purchasing vehicles from this business.

We are sorry you feel this way. As with everything there is always 2 sides to a story.
We would like to point out you purchased the vehicle in January 2024, and had completed over 11k miles in the vehicle before you had experienced an issue with your car.
The first time you had a fault with the car you took it to a garage to get the car repaired on 21/1/25 where the warranty paid £1200 towards the bill. Within a week you the issue arose again, which was a faulty repair by a garage of your own choosing and you deemed this to be our fault with a significant bill left.
You then came to our dealership shouting and being threatening towards members of staff, you were asked to leave politely several times where you went out the showroom and stood out the front door and warned customers off to not purchase from ourselves, to which even a customer said "that is your problem not ours" when they came to collect a car. it got to the stage where the police was called and you then went to your car.
You came back inside shortly after trying to be amicable, where we are happy to help customers who show this to start with and not threatening and abusive behaviour, asking if there is anything we can do to help out. We offered you over 50% discounted price of the 1yr warranty with a £3k claim limit, which we would retail for £699, we sold to you for £300 to help you with claiming some of the cost of the bill from the warranty company.
7/3/25 the warranty company paid £2050 to your 2nd garage you had chose.
Recently you contacted the finance company to put forward a complaint against us, we provided our evidence however you didn't provide any evidence and the case was closed.
Again, apologies you feel this way however we have helped out more than some garages would in this instance.

Excellent service
We were greeted by Max who was very friendly & professional, he led us straight to the car we wanted to see.

Happy Customer.
I had a very good experience with this company. The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful. Max was great and was very patient with me throughout the process. There was no pressure during the initial walk round and I was pleased to get a good deal on the car I bought.
The car itself was prepared really well on purchase and I feel very confident that if anything were to happen after purchase it would be dealt with accordingly.
I’d definitely recommend this garage in future.

Mechanical After Sales issue
Following my recent review and purchase of the Discovery Sport, 4 weeks later we have a mechanical problem. After reporting it to Driven they requested the car back and explained that they would sort the problem an keep me informed. Thanks to Drivens staff for a quick response an fingers crossed the problem sorted.

Poor customer service - they refused a simple request
I contacted them on their website chat about the registration plate of a car they were advertising, so I could do some online history checks. (The reg plate was covered on their images of the car.) The chat person said she couldn't tell me, and asked for my phone number so someone could call me back. I said no, I didn't want the sales rep pressure, just the registration number. It was a fairly simple request, and I knew she had the information because she'd confirmed which car I was interested in. She suggested I maybe give them my email address instead. Again I said no, so she refused to give me the registration number. Most car websites don't hide the registration plate, and in fact other cars on Driven's website show the plate, so something felt wrong about this. Even if it was just them trying to get my contact details so they could 'close the deal', that was wrong, when I'd made it clear I didn't want to. I get businesses have to make a living, but this company won't be getting my business. I'll look elsewhere.

The website chat and also our auto trader chat is ran by a 3rd party company, which is said on the chat screen who it is ran by. The purpose of this chat is so that if customers try to call in and we cant get to the phone they can message the 3rd party company who will then forward your details across to us to contact you. This is also same for after hours when we are closed, so that customers can leave details for us to contact them.
We are not your typical "sales team" and if it was just a registration number required we would supply that over the phone with no intention of giving "the sales talk", we understand how customers want to operate and times have changed.
We would also like to note that if you were on our website looking at a car, the registration number is given underneath the photos and videos...
Apologies if this is how you feel but we are more than happy to help if you change your mind.

I will recommend any one to purchase a vehicle from D.O.Y they looked after me when I had a slight glitch with my car I was given a courtesy car for mine to be fixed awesome service ,great service and the peace of mind you need for a car .

i never buy
i never buy. here. whent all they way from aberdeen scotland. that cost me £600 trains. taxi. and bus. and hotel. the car there was marks all over the body. and inside the car. i was told there was no marks. and frount bumper at the top was a bad resprey. i was not told this. no way that car look like it has done 9000 miles. Beware. buying here. the only good thing i got my dep. back. and stay at york for a night. They never offered to take me back to train they should of give me money. for that car coming down

Thank you for your review Iain, it is unfortunate that you felt you needed to leave a 1* review. You did not express any anger and emotion on the day you came down and spoke with management, so to say you have left a 1* review amazes us.
We do not tell any customers that a vehicle has no marks as you are purchasing a used car, not new, regardless of the miles and the car in question we can confirm is 9k miles, genuine and approved, and is a 2017 model, this means the car has been on the road for 7 years, so there are going to be a couple of marks that are expected for the age of the vehicle.
When you were on site we gave you time to look at the vehicle and if there was another car on site that you wanted to transfer the deposit across to, or alternatively a discount for the marks that you had pointed out, even though the car is priced to sell. You declined both options and asked for your money back which we did not argue with and deposited back into your account within 5 minutes.
We apologise you had what felt a wasted journey but we feel the 1* review is a bit harsh.
100% recommend
Smooth sailing from start to end, the car is exactly as described. A massive thank you to Tom and Jason who were prompt and fab at dealing with any queries. Super friendly team.
