I chose Coop Funeral care because of their reputation. They are a well established funeral care provider with national coverage. Their website is easy to navigate, with all relevant information that you need. Completing purchase of my silver cremation plan online took about fifteen minutes. Payment of deposit was secure and setting dates for direct debits was easy. Their service includes ongoing advice if required.

Prudhoe branch customer service was brilliant. They were so helpful. Lady who came and met me was really nice. My only gripe was the prices had gone up day before I went to meet her. I went to the branch as I felt everything is done online these days and I wanted to talk to a real person. I do feel though that when someone contacted me to arrange the appointment I should have been told about the price increase in which case I would have given in and gone online. It was a £200 increase so pretty hefty. Apart from that everything went smoothly and happy with the plan

1)started by being greeted with "Hi guys" not at all professional, though according to the person I complained to, it wasn't meant to be disrespectful, If that is so, someone needs more training in how to greet and deal with grieving families.

2)then when trying to set up the photo slide show it wouldn't work. phoned helpline several times with them all saying it had to be a certain way to no avail until we got the one and only person who knew what they were doing and gave the right information. It turned out it wasn't even Co-op personnel but a firm who had been suncontracted. Talk about stress levels at the top of the thermometer

3)Were told there was a charge of £20 per day if you overran 21 days which we had to because of holidays and people trying to get here. we thought this was a legal matter but upon checking with UK funeral director website there is no time limit on when you can have a funeral. No-one explained what the £20 charge was for though we asked.

4)when we got the bill it stated there was a coffin and gown included. we had given clothes and mementoes and wanted to check why it didn't say that. Incorrect details that upset us greatly as we thought he had not had the things prepared by his grandchildren in with him

5)The bill was actually prepared on the very day of the funeral, extremely tactless . It could have been done actually while the funeral was taking place and most certainly before my husbands ashes had got cold. I thought it was grasping and crass to date it the day of the funeral but when I queried why so quick to issue the bill when there were three weeks allowed to pay, that wasn't even answered

I complained to the Co-op but they decided there was no sign of anything being wrong. Of course they wouldn't ever agree their staff were unprofessional or tactless. If they think their staff behaved appropriately and with respect someone definitely needs more training on how to deal with grieving families.

It made an already very difficult and distressing time even worse

The staff at the Billingham branch (Judith & Anna) recently helped me & my sister to arrange our mam's funeral, as they had done when dad died in 2023. In both instances they have been brilliant, making the process as stress-free as possible under the circumstances, and dealing sensitively with all interactions with the bereaved. The office staff, funeral director and team were professional at all times, but with a human warmth that really does help.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Co-op Funeralcare based on my experience with the Billingham branch.

Definitely a great service at such a sensitive time, June was wonderful and definitely took us through and guided us on things with sensitivity and care. Even when things got a little tense and there were hiccups June handled very well and was able to find ways of making it work very well. I purchased a pre paid coop funeral plan. The website was easy to use, explained things very thoroughly.
There was a good emphasis on making sure that you were choosing the right plan.

Decided to take out funeral plan and co-op came highly recommended. Their representative Hannah was very informative about all the plans and I felt no pressure at all in choosing or buying a plan.

We sit here today 15mths following my mothers laws burial and still we do not have a date for the stone to be returned. We have this morning been told that the stone would be ready for the 22nd December. Following that permit request and the works to install programmed in. We could be looking at 21mths from the burial.
