My guide, Hu Shuhua (胡书华), known as Steven, was extraordinary. He welcomed me at the airport with roses and a fruit basket and promised to keep me happy and safe.
Steven treated me with the affection and respect traditionally shown to a Chinese grandmother. He was knowledgeable, patient, attentive, and genuinely concerned about my comfort. He accompanied me to each hotel room to ensure everything met my requirements and helped me navigate crowded attractions and slippery pathways.
When I developed painful muscle spasms in my leg, Steven adjusted our pace, assisted me with walking, and arranged medical attention. He went far beyond what I would normally expect from a tour guide.
Tian Hang even kept his promise to take me to dinner on my free day and show me some of Zhangjiajie’s nightlife!
