I had an email about insurance from Car and Classic after buying at an auction. I got a quote which was half of the amount quoted by the same insurance provider I also use for the same cover! Great value and quick and easy

Advertised my Bentley on several sites with no results then posted on Car & Classic, received lots of interest and sold the car as a result. Simple, easy and it works.

Disappointing!
I successfully sold my vehicle using their auction service, but found the process disappointing and the customer service lacking.

My assigned Consignment Specialist convinced me to list my vehicle by reducing the sellers commission as well as reducing the photography and entrance fee. These reduced fees were illustrated on my contract, but were not applied once my vehicle sold at auction.

Upon collection of my vehicle, the funds were released through faster payment, but I was under paid by Car & Classic as they had failed to adjust the commission rate as agreed. I reached out to my Consignment Specialist (who has never responded) as well as their Customer Success Team to have the under payment repaid on the 19th September, its now the 6th Oct and the refund remains outstanding, although now pending!

Very disappointing, once you have signed your contract the customer service drops off as does the level of communication and urgency to resolve raised issues.

Hats off to Joe who has been dealing with me to get my three bikes sold. The process was straight forward payment once the bikes were sold arrived on time and as promised. If you are looking at selling a vehicle this is who I would recommend

Straightforward process, excellent communication by Alex and my car was sold to a great buyer.

Was pleased with the whole experience kept me informed through the whole process would use again.

Right from the start, it was obvious that this was a very professional operation, from the first contact to the final transfer of monies to my bank account. The description of my car was spot on and I'll give a lot praise to the photographer, who did an excellent job, taking more than 400 photographs of very high quality.
All round, I am very pleased at the outcome and will certainly use in the future for one or two of my other cars.

Listing my motorcycle on C&C was so easy, the website listing section easy to navigate and reacted quickly to my input. I know from previous experience that genuine buyers tend to view the site, and any enquiries will be from interested people not out to waste time. The second enquiry relating to my bike resulted in a sale - great news! The buyer and I agreed on a fair price and the deal was struck. Well done to C&C for introducing me to a genuine buyer, in what appears to be a fairly difficult marketplace at present. I will continue to use C&C in the future as my sole go-to selling place.

Gordon was great right from the start and Rob also. When the first buyer pulled out they re advertised the car. The advert was very good and the photographer excellent. On the exchange day it was simple and the money was in my account as the car was driven away. All in all, great service. Thanks guys

It was really easy to build and load the advert with ample images and a video to go with it. The description was easy to write and all of this is free of course. I had a number of enquiries from here in the UK and one from Switzerland. The car sold quickly and the new owner took delivery today. I’d definitely use C & C again.

Car & Classic is a great website, I love to visit and browse through the adverts. It's also great for car sales it took me 3 weeks to sell my Volvo to someone who contacted me through the website and phone relay. I used C&C before so it's the first site I would list in, the quality of potential buyers is much higher that other 'Free' car sales platforms and no scammers!

Sold without too much fuss. Email and phone Comms were hit and miss. I didn't get an email for the first 2 days my ad was live and on the third day I got 8 or 9 all at the same time. It looked like the first 2 days worth of emails were held back for some reason. Anyway I got emails and calls thick and fast for the next week and sold on the Saturday.

Really easy to sell my Austin 7 with private advert. Got the price I advertised it for. Took a few weeks and at no cost. Recommended.

Very good website to use and gets very good results, I wouldn’t hesitate to use again.

I bought a 1967 Renault 4 through a Car & Classic auction for €9,100, plus €550 in platform fees.

The listing was very appealing and extensively illustrated. Unfortunately, problems started on the drive home. After around 150 km, part of the exhaust detached and fell onto the road. The car was also misfiring and hesitating badly under acceleration, and upon arrival I discovered a significant coolant leak from an old, badly cracked heater hose.

I therefore had the car transported to a workshop specialising in classic vehicles. Their inspection identified further work: the old ignition system needs overhauling (points, condenser, distributor cap and rotor, HT leads and spark plugs), and corrosion in the floor requires repair and replacement sheet metal. The latter is particularly disappointing given that the listing specifically highlighted the underside as having a “quality epoxy” treatment.

The seller has refused to contribute towards any of the repair costs.

Car & Classic then explained that by clicking “Confirm Transfer”, I had confirmed not only that I had received the vehicle, but also that I was satisfied with its condition. At that point the sale was considered complete, Car & Classic could no longer cancel the transaction or refund me, and I was referred back to the seller.

I obviously do not expect Car & Classic to be responsible for every fault on a nearly 60-year-old car. However, my experience highlights an important limitation of the buyer protection offered: serious defects may only become apparent once you actually start driving the vehicle, by which time you may already have confirmed the transfer.

That is something I wish I had understood more clearly before bidding.

UPDATE – 2 October 2026

Car & Classic has now responded to this review. Unfortunately, their response does not address the central issue.

They explain that I could have inspected or test-driven the vehicle before purchase and that the transaction became final once I authorised the release of the funds. I do not dispute either point.

What they do not address is the issue raised in my review: the discrepancy between the condition of the vehicle as presented in the auction listing and its actual condition when delivered.

Car & Classic states in its response that it “care[s] greatly about the accuracy of the information presented in [its] listings”. That is precisely the issue here.

I would therefore still like Car & Classic to explain how the description of this Renault 4 was consistent with a vehicle which, within its first journey after purchase, lost part of its exhaust, suffered a significant coolant leak and required further mechanical work.

Their response addresses the buyer’s pre-purchase checks. It does not address the accuracy of the listing.

Possibly the worse experience!

Car & Classics have been appalling.

Let m explain. I live in Hugh Wycombe London and I saw a car advertised down in Torquay Cornwall. I won the auction as believing in the description when I came to the Car the description that was written out for the Car wasn’t correct.

I’ve had to stay in the night down in cornwall as I couldn’t get back to London that night. I’ve tried to ring car and classics and send emails and I’m getting no reponse. Basically been left in the dark.

Horrible experience will never buy from car and classic again.
