Never purchase a Mobile Phone via Buy Mobile NZ from DickSmith's Online Store!
I bought a high-end foldable phone for Christmas. It arrived in good time from Australia to New Zealand. However, within two weeks of owning the phone, the internal screen started playing up to the point that it became unusable.
I contacted the Buy Mobile NZ to get the phone fixed or replaced. I was told I had to send it back to Australia at my expense so they could examine it. Before sending the phone, I sent pictures of the phone to illustrate that it was not damaged and that there was a problem with the internal screen.
I followed up two weeks after sending the phone because I had not heard anything. A couple of days later, I was told I had caused the damage to the phone, and they attached some pictures of a phone that was clearly in a different state (damaged) from the one I had sent.
When I resent the original pictures of the damage, I was told that their study had shown that an impact (there was absolutely no physical damage to the phone before sending it back to Australia) had caused the internal screen to malfunction.
They offered to find out how much it would cost to fix it and got the following reply:
We have checked this with our technician, they got a quote for the part however it was too expensive as it is between $800-$1000 (AUD)
Please let us know if you would like to proceed with the repair, otherwise we can send the device back to you so you can also check other options at your local repair centre.
The communication with the Buy Mobile NZ has been poor. It takes days to hear back from them, and at times, if I hadn’t followed up with them, I’m not certain I would have heard back at all. Answers are short, with missing information, and no consideration for facts about the phone's condition before reaching Australia was ignored (despite photos showing there was no damage).
The result is that after purchasing a phone for $2,595.43 (NZD), I am being asked to spend another $1,000.00 (AUD) to fix a problem that was not caused by my actions.
After this experience, I will NEVER be buying anything from DickSmith again and would encourage others to do the same.
