Recently used blacks brokers for the sale of a franchise business. Amy page was the one dealing with our sale and her service was awesome. She was pivotal in getting the deal done at the solicitors stage. Will definitely be using them again if needed.

My initial contact with Blacks, via Business Transfer Group, was with the Associate Corporate Director. His approach came across as overly enthusiastic, which raised early concerns about the tone of the engagement. The marketing photographs proposed were of such poor quality that I felt compelled to take them myself to ensure a basic professional standard.
The process that followed was emotionally exhausting. I eventually had to delegate negotiations to my son in order to manage the strain. While the sale did complete, it’s important to clarify that Blacks’ role was limited to introducing the buyer. From that point onward, the seller is left to manage the entire process independently. For a service that promotes professional standards, the level of support provided was minimal.

What I found most concerning was the conduct immediately after the sale. Within 24 hours, we received a pro forma invoice that included VAT, despite no formal VAT invoice being issued.
Nevertheless, the VAT was claimed and we paid. This is troubling. According to HMRC guidance, a VAT invoice must be issued when payment becomes due or goods/services are supplied, and it must include:
• A unique invoice number
• The supplier’s VAT registration number
• An itemised breakdown of goods/services
• The VAT rate and total amount charged

None of these were present. The absence of itemisation and clarity raises serious questions about Blacks’ accounting practices and compliance with VAT regulations.
One day after receiving the pro forma invoice, we were contacted to confirm receipt. The following day, we were warned of financial penalties if payment wasn’t made within seven days. The tone and urgency of these communications felt more aligned with debt collection than with a professional brokerage service.

Given Blacks’ membership with the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) and the Property Ombudsman (TPO) Scheme, I had expected a higher standard of professionalism. Their behaviour was not only unprofessional it was completely at odds with the standards these bodies claim to uphold. Specifically:

• NAEA Property mark Conduct and Membership Rules require members to “act with integrity and avoid any conduct that brings the profession into disrepute” and to “provide a service that is honest, transparent and fair.”

• TPO Code of Practice for Business Transfer Agents (Section 1a) states that agents must “treat all consumers fairly and provide a service that is consistent with fairness, integrity, and best practice.”

I was contacted by an Associate Director who advised that the invoice would be sent. However, to date, I have not received any invoice, and it has not appeared in my junk folder either.

My experience did not reflect these standards.
I would encourage prospective clients to read reviews carefully and ask detailed questions before proceeding. My experience was stressful, costly, and ultimately disappointing.

They will call you constantly (Andre did ) blowing smoke up your arse telling you how muck your company is worth , you then list it and pay £1,800 and then basically ghost you - very disappointing
Also the NDA is not worth it as anyone can view your sale and then tell people any way
