We had such a great day kayaking, exploring caves, and doing some cliff jumping. João is truly a 1 of a kind and has energy and personality you’ll love. Icing on the cake was having a private lunch on the rocks complete with 3 different varieties of wine made from grapes his family produces themselves on their farm.

He even convinced my wife to partake in a few cliff jumps and she’s terrified of heights.

Was our favorite outing on our trip to Portugal and Spain. Highly recommend. He’s even such a great guy he agreed to drive 3 stranded people from the remote beach back to the train station when they couldn’t get an Uber out of there!

Three years ago, I did the Kayak experience with João and knew right after, that I have to come back and do it again! This week, I not only did the Kayak tour again but also the rock climbing. Both tours were absolutely amazing, full of fun jokes, good food and drinks, very good equipment, the best music (90s punk and rock, Disney songs, party songs) and João took such good care of us. He is able to easily generate a sense of companionship, friendship even and provides good insights in the history of the area, the Arrábida national park and you feel safe and encouraged around him to try out challenges you probably wouldn't have before.
The rockclimbing is in a crevice of large lime stone structures right above the sea. There are plenty routes set and João made sure to show us the ones where we have an easy start with few options to change things up and challenge us. Between the first and the second wall to climb awaits a fun, adventurous path through the crevice with climbing over and under trees and rocks and having quite possibly the best scenic views in Arrábida. The tour finishes with a light, portugues typical lunch at the beach.
The Kayak tour brings you from the beach along the coast line, into a large cave system where you can explore the caves, find fossil embeded in the rock, climb along the coast and jump from cliffs. With a short snack pause inbetween and finishing with snorkeling at a unique riff structure outside the beach, this experience delivers quite everything you could ask for. It also ends with a nice lunch at the beach.
Both tours provide excellent equipment, towels, food and drinks (local wine and grape juice from the guides family), video and fotos, scenic views, and all around good times with João who makes sure you have the best day possible.
The trips start and end at the Beyond Adventure headquarters which is an extra building in the owners garden, where you can shower, get coffee, dress, there is also bathrooms.
You can get there easily with public transport from Lisbon (for example by the Setúbal-train from Sete Rios station at the zoo and then take the bus from Penalva station, costs around 6€ per trip; or you can take a Uber/Bolt, approx. 25-30€ per trip).
I can't recommend Beyond Adventures highly enough!

Our day with Joao was the absolute highlight of our 2 weeks in Portugal and Spain! He is the ultimate guide: funny, thoughtful, trustworthy, and so informative! The facilities and equipment are top quality; we felt totally prepared for our day of adventure on the water. From cliff jumping to exploring sea caves and snorkeling around an island, every moment of the experience was incredible. And the fabulous lunch he served on the beach was an extra special bonus! We HIGHLY recommend booking an outing with Joao when you are in Lisbon.

João was a great guide. He was full of information about the cave geology, geography and sea critters. He is a very entertaining guide, keeping up a steady banter of facts, jokes, and encouragement. We loved the caving and the cliff jumping. He is high energy and kept the excitement up the entire time, from when we met to when we got dropped off. There were three of us on the tour, and we had a great time. The food was great, wine was refreshing, and the grape juice was home grown. And excellent. I would definitely do a tour with João again when I go back to Portugal.

L’expérience étais au dessus de mes attentes! Je ne pensais pas en faire autant dans une journée. Le guide s’adapte au niveau de connaissance des touristes, même si c’était ma première experience d’escalade, le guide nous enseigne à notre rythme et j’ai escalader des endroits plus difficiles. Je recommande fortement! C’est sans aucun doute une activité à faire. Pour finir, la joie, la passion et les blagues du guide ;), permettent aux voyageurs de se sentir en sécurité lors de l’activité. Merci beaucoup pour l’expérience, je veux absolument revenir pour les sauts de falaise et le kayak!

Great experience with Joao, he brought great energy and made it feel like we were all apart of a friend group rather than purely just a tour guide.
Recording on the Go-pro made the whole experience more memorable as it captures all these moments without damaging personal equipment especially if one does not have their own action camera.

By far the best part of my time in Portugal! I have recommended to several friends since joining this adventure. The guides are outstanding; they keep the whole group entertained and engaged. Whether you're a seasoned adventurer or just looking for pleasant views, you'll be able to enjoy the trip. The location is idyllic.

Joao is not simply passionate about rock climbing or cave exploring, or kayaking, snorkeling or jumping off scenic cliffs into the waiting arms of a serene blue sea, but truly he is passionate about you! Excursions may take you to one place or another, but when you are with Joao you are already there! And you will know you have a new old friend in Lisbon!

Joao is the most amazing host I have ever encountered. From the moment we were picked up the adventure began. Everything was included from equipment to snacks , wine, gazpacho, hummus, wine, crisps, chorizo bread did I say wine lol oh and let's not forget the jokes per minute and tailored music to fuel our adventures. The backdrop for our adventure was needles to say paradise. The kayaking and magical sea caves made me feel like I was in a movie like Pirates of the Caribbean. Snorkeling and a chance to see not one but two octopi. 🐙 At the end of our adventure we had lunch in the beach and Joao videos and takes pictures the entire time what great memories to have. Lastly met to brother Andre's and Antonio. It was fun adventuring with company. I will def be back

You're in for a ride of history, comedy show, and adventure! João really takes care of you on this tour and you can really see his passion for his work and community. The entire experience begins with clear communication from pick up (shout out to Pedro!) and doesn't end after the tour is over either - we get sent photos taken AND the playlist! This tour was the highlight of my trip to Lisbon and was definitely Beyond Adventure - I can't recommend it enough. Thanks João and team! :))

If you can't choose between tours, absolutely book this one! It is such a personalized tour of exploring the coast with an adrenaline junkie for a tour guide - cliff jumping, snorkeling, and exploring caves with delicious homemade lunch and snacks. The passion (and bad dad jokes) that João puts into his tours is a MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE 🌟

Surpassed our expectations and is one of the highlights of our trip. João is an amazing guide, you will laugh and have a great time exploring the caves and sea life. You will see excellent views and learn about the history of the land while having the best time ever. João is very prepared and will provide you with everything (meals, snacks, gear, towels, drinks) to ensure you have the best time. Will definitely return one day!

I would highly recommend this tour. This was a full day water experience to explore the sea life, caves, snorkeling, and cliff jumping. The tour guide, Joao, was very informative and very funny (told lots of jokes). Only advice I would give is for those who don't drink, bring your own beverage. He does provide water and wine (or beer). You can purchase soda pop or juice through the local vendors at the beach. Other than that, I had an absolute blast with this tour.

We found this tour online researching cliff jumping near Lisbon for our teen boys and it turned out to be our favorite tour ever! Roundtrip rides to and from a central Lisbon location, loads of great quality gear was provided needed for the adventure, we were fed multiple times throughout the day (including wine for mom and dad!), the guide was very personable, funny, great with the kids, and shared not only adventure knowledge but Portugal geography, history and culture. We felt very safe the entire time even though this was a very different type of adventure for our Chicago based family. We loved all of the activities (kayaking, snorkeling, swimming, rock climbing, caving, cliff jumping-optional) and the best beach of Europe location!
