Beware of misleading information…

Here is the revised review with that warning made prominent:

**BEWARE OF A KNOCK ON YOUR DOOR.** Our family believes misleading information was used and that an elderly, visually impaired homeowner was taken advantage of during this solar sale.

Our family has serious concerns about the way Sunergy Solar, now Zeo Energy, sold this solar system to my elderly father.

In August 2022, a door-to-door salesperson entered into an approximately $85,000 solar transaction with my father, who was 88 years old and had advanced macular degeneration. He could not meaningfully read or review the documents. Nevertheless, he was the only person listed as signing a 25-year financing agreement electronically on an iPad—an obligation that would continue until he was approximately 113 years old.

The sale also included representations concerning a substantial federal tax credit or financial benefit. Our parents were elderly and did not have sufficient federal income-tax liability to receive the benefit in the manner they apparently believed had been promised.

Our family did not discover the full contract terms and circumstances until we began helping our parents sell their home. My father’s memory has now significantly declined, and he does not remember the transaction. We have medical documentation concerning his vision impairment and have repeatedly attempted to obtain answers and a reasonable resolution.

We do not consider this matter resolved. We believe an elderly, visually impaired homeowner should never have been placed into a lengthy and extremely costly financial obligation without ensuring that he could read, understand, and knowingly consent to the agreement.

Families with elderly parents should be extremely cautious about door-to-door solar sales. Do not rely solely on what a salesperson tells you. Independently verify every statement concerning savings, tax credits, system value, financing terms, and the effect the contract may have when the home is sold.

**Beware of misleading information, high-pressure electronic signing, and sales practices that may take advantage of elderly homeowners. Do not allow an elderly family member to sign anything on an iPad or tablet without a trusted family member, attorney, or financial adviser carefully reviewing every document first.**
We have contacted the company - their response was "legal" jargon and accepted no liability. We are pursuing with an attorney.

The high-pressure sales tactics and…

The high-pressure sales tactics and high-pressure management methods are incredibly annoying. First, they come to your home and sell you on a complete solar panel system for free, and Zeo gets a cut of what your solar panels produce.

I had my doubts about this, but the sales team assured me that by signing the 20-page contract, I would not be charged anything and that it would just lock in rates for my system.

I told the salespeople that I need to change the roofline of the house and that I will not be able to install a solar panel on my roof for at least a year, as the construction comes first. They said no problem. At that time, just 7 days after I signed the contract, I had the opportunity to cancel, and I communicated that I wanted to cancel. The high-pressure salesperson convinced me that there is no cost to me to go forward with this deal. So I gave in and told the salesperson ok. At this point, I should have stood my ground and said with emphasis, No.

Then nothing for a few weeks. Then they called that my permits and plans are done and the work must be finished by November (First contact, April 17. Second contact June 4th). I was appalled. I specifically said I cannot do this until the construction is finished, but they insisted they needed to do this right away as the permits would expire in November.

I then had to call the salesperson back to say this is just not possible. They would not relent. They insisted that it be done ASAP. Ok, then I want to cancel.

The salesperson told me there would be no cancellation fee. However, another team at ZEO called about three weeks later to tell me that the panels were ready to be shipped and installed. They did not process my cancellation request. They did not honor my wishes.

Then they required me to show all communication with the salesperson. I had already expunged the texts and emails at that point because I had made my intentions clear to the salesperson four weeks earlier.

So to the team that did the design then called me up to say that I need to pay a cancellation fee. He pointed out that this is in the 20-odd pages of the contract. So now I am stuck paying $2150 for a solar system that I didn't want, and have not received any benefit whatsoever. No t-shirt. No pen. Nothing.

Beware of these guys. They are annoyingly persistent and will not take any input from you about what you want to do.
