Buyer Beware: YI Cameras and the YI Home App

I own a number of YI cameras, and when I originally purchased them, the online service was excellent. The cameras were easy to access and I could quickly view what was happening when I needed to.

Unfortunately, that has changed dramatically.

The YI Home app is now overwhelmed with advertisements, including ads that can appear before you are able to access your camera. That is more than an inconvenience—it can become a safety concern. If you are using these cameras to monitor young children, elderly family members, pets, or your home, you may need to see what is happening immediately. Being forced to wait through an advertisement before accessing a live camera defeats one of the primary purposes of having a security or monitoring camera.

I am not the only customer experiencing this. Recent App Store reviews describe similar problems, including lengthy ads before accessing cameras, interruptions while viewing footage, and frustration with customer service. YI’s responses to these reviews acknowledge the advertising and promote a paid subscription for an ad-free experience. (App Store⁠)

There are also numerous recent complaints about difficulty contacting customer service and dealing with subscription-related issues. (App Store⁠)

I believe Amazon should take a serious look at the recent customer reviews and the current YI user experience before continuing to promote these products. Customers purchase cameras expecting reliable access to their cameras—not to have that access interrupted by advertising.

I have invested in multiple YI cameras over the years, which makes this change particularly disappointing.

Do your research and read the recent reviews before buying YI cameras. Buyer beware.

rubbish it wont even let you install the software for the camera usual chinese junk it just wants you to fill your phone with junk spam,, chinese spying on your phone delete these asap and throw the camera away

I've had my cameras for about 4 years. It was $99/year for the first few years. When it expired, I was unemployed and decided I didn't need them. I got a job and went to resubscribe in June, and they'd raised it to $139/year. I saw that I could get a SD card instead and decided to do that for $20. Well, they should warn you that if you go that route, and don't subscribe, they make the app impossible to use! First it starts off with an ad or two that go on forever and even end before the "X" pops up. When you click on the "X", it takes you to the ad's website instead of getting rid of it. Once you get to the app to look at your cameras, there are constant pop ups that make it impossible to see anything. Lastly, unless you subscribe, you cannot see the whole video - only a few seconds. Basically, you buy the subscription or else! For that reason, I'll be switching to a new set of cameras. I will not give this company another penny!

I'm ready to throw this piece of scam cam in the garbage. It is Impossible to use with all the infomercials that lock the camera from use. "F#@#! YI Cameras! "DO NOT PURCHASE"!!!

Camera is now almost useless due to the app being inundated with rubbish ads and almost wresting control from the user. I am ditching the cameras and the app and buying from another supplier.

he comprado varias cámaras de diferentes marcas y esta marca es la peor con diferencia te presionan y bombardean para que te suscribas a un programa de pago. La Yi 2K tras la última actualización, ha quedado totalmente inservible. no he conseguido reconectarla. el botón de reseteo tampoco funciona, he tenido que cambiarla por otra marca. no quiero esta marca de cámaras ni aunque me la regalen

Absolutely , Zero, Customer Support from them. Actually had to cancel my credit card because I couldn’t turn off the auto renew. Do yourself a favor. Cancel your credit cards or subscription with this YI service. It is Terrible that companies like YI exist. It’s time to shut them down and stop them.

Una autentica porcata. L'app della telecamera pagata, non ti permette di usarla perché ti inonda di pubblicità impedendoti di gestirla. Dovete dichiararlo prima dell'acquisto!!! Truffatori.

With my other cameras the ads don't take over like with this one. Once the ads take over, can't get out. Won't recommend it, won't buy it again. About to replace it.

Pessimo servizio, ti riempiono di pubblicità e non ti danno il servizio. Le ho dovute buttare tutte e acquistarne di nuove con fornitori più seri e affidabili. Non acquistate

I originally bought 11 inside cameras and three outside cameras on the basis that I didn't need a subscription and could fit an SD card for recording as the subscription for all these cameras would have been expensive. The cameras worked ok although with limited functionality. After about a year Yi/Kami started to introduce ads and pop ups which got progressively worse until the app and cameras were useless, unless of course you took out a subscription- which was not the deal.
I was so enraged I have taken all the cameras out and thrown them away and changed them all to TP Link at considerable cost. These work fine and as advertised. And a note to Yi /Kami. You think you are being clever but you are actually very stupid. As well as changing the cameras I have standardised on TP Link infrastructure for all of my home controls. You have lost me as a customer for ever. I tell everyone of my experience. From Trust Pilot reviews it look like everyone has had the same experience. So, in my opinion never, ever buy Yi/Kami.

Pathétique au plus haut point, matériel acceptable mais application infâme, lente bourrée de publicité et de rappels pour passer sur leur cloud. Le produit que vous achetez perd en fonctionnalités tant que vous ne prenez pas leur abonnement.
A vomir, plus jamais je ne prendrai un produit de cette marque.

Uno schifo! 9 telecamere comprate 8 anni fa che ormai dovrò buttare per la troppa pubblicità che spinge x un loro abbonamento. Non provo nemmeno a venderle...mi vergognerei...

Total Crap. Choose anything other than Yi. Not worth one star.

Really poor aggressive ads makes the product unusable. I have ditched the cameras and will not be using this company's products again

La peor compra. Hace años no habian anuncios. Ahora los han metido y para ver la camara tienes que esperar un largo tiempo. Si es algo urgente que quieres mirar en la camara, te vuelves loco no es posible

Quando apri l'applicazione della camera vieni letteralmente mitragliatro di pubblicità che diventa quasi inutilizzabile. Sto pensando di dismetterla per questo motivo

Paghi per le telecamere e ti ritrovi con un software inutilizzabile se non fai un abbonamento cloud. Vergognosi

Compre 3 cámaras Yi y funcionaron el primer año. Después te bombardean con publicidad abriendo ventanas con juegos, links a Ali express y mil cosas. Es imposible utilizarla. Te lo venden como cámaras que puedes ver remota pero en la práctica o compras supscropciom o es imposible usarla. Cambian condiciones de uso unilateralmente con política abusiva de publicidad. Dinero tirado a la basura.
