The credit system is a joke
The first thing to know is that, despite the name, this site is not for finding someone to travel with. This is a dating site of a sort, but it is obvious that the girls are controlled and manipulated in what they can say or do. I have had girls send me a flirty message that, after a few days, simply disappeared. I assume some moderator probably removed it. The second problem is that the, as has been reported here, girls are either reluctant or unable to move conversations or video chats to a different site where such communication does not require credits and can be done at no cost, like Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp. I think most of the profiles are probably genuine, but the credit system is an absolute joke and a ripoff. If you opt for the lowest payment tier of $60 per month, you can easily use up all your credits on one video chat. And everything you want to do, from sharing pictures, sending messages or gifts, to any kind of communication, everything requires credits, and often a substantial number of them. Apparently TravelMates is part of the same company that runs Cupid, at least it seems to be affiliated in some way, and oddly Cupid does not work in the same way. In Cupid you pay a monthly fee, around $35 or so, and you can access the site without restrictions. Granted, Cupid is pretty basic, lacking video chat and similar features, but it is also substantially cheaper, without restrictions, and does not feel as if the girls you are communicating with are being incentivized and to keep you talking so that you will spend more money. If you do sign up, renewal is automatic every month, but unlike Cupid, there is no billing screen where you can turn off auto renewal. You must contact customer service in order to cancel. This is the reason I will not sign up for this site.

It's a scam site! After running some code - not that difficult, some Python + CSS - I found out that some people who access the site see the URL "www + dating + com".
Further code showed me... guess what? Yes, mostly people - probably girls - from Eastern countries.
Only for those from Western countries they show the URL "www + yourtravelmates + com"
So the trick is pretty obvious: for Western countries, where there are more guys looking for a travel partner, the URL showed is "www + yourtravelmate + com".
For Eastern countries, where the people is mostly composed of women looking for a serious relationship, the URL shown is "www + dating + com".
Not surprisingly, no interesting girls is there for a travel partner purpose.
Easy way to make money, no? I recorded everything, including a chat with a "future travel partner" always respecting the laws of the two countries for whose governments I worked for as a consultant putting down financial illegal sites, and I am pretty sure I can take legal actions in order to try to put the site down at least in one of them.
But don't celebrate: sadly this kind of site will exist forever.
So be smart and as soon as you have the first talk, leave immediately and do like I and others are doing here: use sites like these, social medias - they have a page on Facebook, so it's also a great way - and every possible way to let as much people as possible they are just scams.
By doing so we can reduce their illegal profits and reward sites that act in good faith, possibly up to a point when they will reach a break-even point and have to shut down.

Once a member is proven to have committed any wrongdoings that lie on any of the grounds of the anti-scam policy, refund of the incurred credits is guaranteed given that such suspected member has a confirmed profile.

Omg, what a line. And women, they are all gorgeous, seriously, and I never submitted a pic. Yet the bot picked up on key words and I never got a direct answer. Spoke chat immediately and told them their site was fake and saw my credit card was immediately reimbursed. Stay away!! I was way too good for this site.
