TOM THUMB BAIT AND SWITCH
Tom Thumb advertised choice T-bone steak for Easter weekend at $6.99 per pound. When I found the steaks, they were marked $9.99 per pound. A considerable difference! No worries, the meat department assured me. The price will be corrected at checkout. Not only did it NOT correct the price at checkout, it actually rang up one of the two packs at the original price, with no discount at all! I asked to see the manager who said he could not discount the item (despite the add) because it was the meat department responsibility. Sigh. The old bait and switch. According to Food & Wine magazine, Tom Thumb is already ultra expensive, sitting at 25.4% higher than the grocery store baseline. It’s little wonder that Tom Thumb is losing business regularly. I will be surprised if they survive the next few years.
