The Gym Group - Birmingham Sheldon Arvostelua 52

I approached this establishment in good faith, armed only with a one-month gym membership and the naïve belief that “customer service” involved, at some stage, a customer and a service.

Having patiently waited the requisite 15 days (a period in which one could train for a small marathon or at least locate one’s gym socks), I sought merely to cancel my membership while retaining access for the remaining days. A modest request, you might think. A sort of administrative compromise. A handshake between reason and policy.

Instead, I was introduced to their web chat, which appears to be staffed exclusively by philosophical ghosts. At 09:15am, not a human in sight. I left a message, presumably in a digital bottle, cast into an electronic sea.

The following day, a response! Hope! Resolution! Alas, no. My membership had been summarily cancelled and my access revoked with the brisk efficiency of a butler removing an unwanted guest.

To be clear: I did not use the gym. I merely contacted customer service and, in doing so, forfeited the final 10 days of access I had already paid for. A bold and innovative approach to customer relations.

Had I wished to cancel outright, I could have done so myself with considerably less ceremony. Instead, I attempted nuance and was met with annihilation.

My subsequent email has, like the chat before it, disappeared into the void.

A disappointing experience from what is otherwise a perfectly decent gym. One is left to wonder whether the real workout is navigating their customer service system...

Fantastic experience everytime i attend.Gyms always clean and equipments always safe and available in good working order. The Hyrox classes with Megan and Gina are amazing. The girls are fantastic instructors and push hhe class to achieve full potential evey week. Thank all. 😊

The Gym Group Sheldon is the worst gym to visit!!!
I could not get entry passed the doors, as it would open behind me but not let me in.
I pressed the so-called blue button for help, but was ignored. A personal trainer Jonathan looked directly at me struggling and asking for his help, but he refused to help me because he in a training session!
Other gym members asked him to help me as they saw me there attempting to gain entry, but he continued to ignore me.
I then called the remote security service and asked them to help me, they sent an announcement on the tenor system, but he still ignored me!!
I have been a member for many years and this is just absolutely unacceptable and disgraceful customer service!

I’ve been committed to the Gym Group Sheldon for about 6 years now. Under Adrian’s leadership, it’s the best I’ve ever seen the team dynamic and support from them as trainers. You can see the team warm to him and he make them feel valued and appreciated as a team. The team’s overall approach is personable and they’re supportive for every level of fitness. The whole team have become like friends and I feel truly seen and supported by them all. I’ve just face a really tough season personally, and they have been kind and checked in regularly to make sure I’m doing OK. Shout out to Charlotte & Joshua too - big love guys!

Adrian is a brilliant personal trainer and I’d definatly recommend him to anyone who wants to loose weight and tone up he gives confidence to each session too

It’s always wonderful feeling coming to the gym and attending Faiza's training classes as she is always full of energy and has zest. Moreover her knowledge is impeccable which makes my training fruitful.

Gym is great everything you. Need problem I had with getting in and getting out no one around to help reason I left

I’ve attended three classes at Birmingham Sheldon’s Gym this week and couldn’t let the opportunity pass to say what a great and consistent experience I continue to have at this gym.

This weeks trainers were Adrian, the Manager, and Anthea. Truly brilliant sessions, well run, informed, encouraging supportive and to a qualitative standard. I’ve paid twice the money on memberships over the years but none of my past experiences ever came close to The Gym Group in Sheldon.

It was a very nice and friendly gym. The equipment was excellent and the gym was set out in a very nice way. I met Charlotte who was a very friendly and helpful member of the staff there. She was very polite and helpful too.

Excellent place to workout. Very friendly staff. Great set of equipments. Not too expensive as well. Me and my wife are regular to this gym and we highly recommend this gym to everyone.

I visited the Sheldon site at 4:30am for my first workout after recently joining The Gym Group. I’ve never used this chain of gyms before and I was pleasantly surprised when I first arrived, however, after heading to the treadmills to begin my warm up, I found them to be dirty and uninviting, not a good start. Next, I headed to the free weights area, only to be met by absolute chaos with weights dumped anywhere on the stands, or just left next to benches; the plates wasn’t any better either and, by this point, I couldn’t be bothered looking for the grips to use the pull down machines. No point in a cool down, so I headed to the shower with low expectations, and the one I used certainly met those low expectations; mold on the grouting, smelly drain, shower head spraying erratically and dirty floor.

As a result, I have cancelled my membership so I can look elsewhere, however, you have to ring them to keep the access during the remaining time you’ve paid for. Admittedly, this was an easy process and I was very happy with the service I received over the phone, if only the Sheldon site could get to grips with the issues above, it would be a much better experience.

The Gym group Sheldon is in an absolutely horrible state. Homeless people are sleeping on the staircase. People are smoking weed sitting on the stairs as well. Gym is not ventilated properly , the smell is overwhelming. Equipment is in a terrible condition ,the floor is bubbling and raising up and should be considered as health and safety hazard as it’s by the free weights area and members can potentially get injuries. Not even talking about weights being left absolutely everywhere and rubbish all around the floor. No blue roll for members to clean the equipment after themselves only reusable old cloth was on the table which should be considered anti sanitary. Overall in 1 year under new management the group sheldon gym lost all it’s good reputation and I would not recommend anyone wasting their time training there.

Gym showers and changing room closed after 1am which is very bad because I was told numerous times that we would have access very dissatisfied even the disabled shower is closed

I’ve been a member since the gym opened and have enjoyed using the facilities. The staff and Managment are absolutely great.

Pin wouldn’t work. I paid for a month of 24/7 access and could only go 3 times. I emailed them and they said ‘sync’ issue

The Sheldon Gym in Birmingham, is always kept clean and tidy , the staff are super friendly and there is a great range of equipment, very few machines are broken for any length of time. The Shirley Gym needs to take some pointers from Sheldon.
